Kernel selection by hardware?

pxelinux: unable to boot from local disk
Hello, on a somewhat recent machine (Dell T1600) I'm unable to use my usual setup (pxelinux as a boatloader also for local OS - typically windows). The BIOS is capable of using UEFI, but this is turned off. Unfortunately all I get is a message telling me that pxelinux is unable to boot from local disk. The config entry looks like this: LABEL local MENU LABEL OS installed on local disk

PXELINUX: Menu + Machine dependent default kernels?
Hello, up to now I have been using plain pxelinux with symbolic links (IP or MAC-Address) to the machine dependent defaults. [help] Use syslinux but can not boot from USB key
I try two ways to use syslinux for USB key (2GB USB key), and one approach can boot from machine, another approach can not. Could you review the following steps and tell me why #2 can not boot? Thanks very much! approach #1 steps: mkfs.vfat -F 16 -n USB /dev/sdb -I (pay attention, it uses "-I" here) syslinux /dev/sdb (pay attention, it is "sdb", not "sdb1" here)

3.6.5: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED from Win7 to 750 dir
Hello, after upgrading from Samba 3.5.6 to 3.6.5 I encounter some strange NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED trouble when trying to access group readable directories from Windows 7 or Windows 2008 Terminal Server. Very strange stuff is that it works fine using smbclient from a Linux machine using the same userid and Kerberos authentication. The Server is fully integrated into active directory and uses

A bug in syslinux boot code
I used syslinux 4.03 for my brand new usb-stick (16GB FAT32, no Partition Table). It works, but on some computers i get "boot error". My investigation reveals three bugs in the boot code. Int 13 function 8 destroys the contents of register ES. Ah, now it is corrected in version 4.04 pre 5. Well done. I am happy now. But there are still other bugs. Look on version 4.04 pre 5,

syslinux: Please provide -m and -a options on Linux
Hi, this is a forward from the debian bug tracking system, http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=595170: "syslinux for Windows provides the options -m (write an MBR) and -a (make partition active). These options make it easy to provide instructions for Windows users to make a bootable USB drive: just run "syslinux -m -a" on the drive, then drop some files on the drive

very slow boot from USB Pen-Drive
Hi there, I try to boot from an USB Pen-Drive. This works fine on my Laptop, but when I try to change to the target machine it almost takes five minutes until the initrd (fairly big, 18MB) has been loaded. Any hints on how I could try to increase speed? The Bios has already been updatet to the most recent Version. Sven -- "Das ist halt der Unterschied: Unix ist ein Betriebssystem mit
