pxelinux 4.03 taking forever to find .../pxelinux.cfg/default
Hi All, It appears the NetApp OnTap tftp server we were using doesn't implement the "OpCode: Error Code (5); Error Code: File not found (1)" response." so we just moved the tftp service to RHEL boxes running HPA tftpd. It's essential for our deployment system to locate the pxelinux config specific to an installation request based on it's MAC address. If the MAC based

Is GCC 2.95.2 also unusable?
Does anyone know if GCC 2.95.2 compiles a broken oggenc? My .ogg files sound like they're being played by a CD player stuck on fast- forward. . . . And I wonder what the solution is. nfs, 64 / 32 bit, locking problem
Well, next problem. Because of samba isn't running on alphaserver 1200 with gentoo linux and kernel 2.6.9-ac12 i've simply exported my smbroot (on alpha, it is my fileserver) and have samba running on an intel pentium4 box, also gentoo, kernel 2.6.0-ac12. Seems to work, eccept some locking problems. smbd[9450]: [2005/02/08 17:29:51, 0] locking/posix.c:posix_fcntl_lock(657) smbd[9450]:

gpxelinux feature request
Hi All, A while back there was some mention that gpxe may acquire the ability to receive command-line parameters. I'd dearly love if this could become a reality. It would be fantastic if we could have a pxelinux menu config as follows: KERNEL gpxelinux.0 APPEND config http://someserver.net/gpxe-for-this-box.cfg This would solve a huge number of our problems since we don't have the

Extending dmitest to check for Long Mode (aka 64 versus 32 bit)
Hi Erwan, First off, many thanks for your wonderful addition to syslinux: dmitest.c32 and another thankyou to hpa for it's inclusion. I need to ask if you are missing a couple of definitions in dmi_processor.h, specifically, the "long mode" flag. I need to use this flag to determine whether a machine is 64-bit capable or not. There is a great web page explaining the "long

Confusion on lpxelinux vs. gpxelinux vs. ipxe vs gpxe.
Hi All, I've been trying to understand how to use pxechn.c32 to chain a local pxelinux menu item to a remote server which has it's own pxelinux hierarchy served via TFTP and HTTP. We have no control over DHCP next-server and filename fields so I wanted to exploit the "prefix" -p option that pxechn.c32 accepts. I spent a long time hitting my head against a brick wall until I

EA and ACL patches on ext3-2.4
A new work-in-progress release of the Extended Attribute and ACL patches for ext3 is now available at http://www.moldybread.net/patches/kernel-2.4/ This release is against linux-2.4.10-ac12 with ext3-2.4-0.9.12. Status: Extended attribute sharing now seems stable. Performance problems appear to have been addressed. Known Problems: Error message: "VFS: brelse: Trying to free free

ext3 0.9.6 vs ext3 0.9.9
Hello, I have done extensive testing between 2.4.9 and 2.4.9-ac12 with ext3 0.9.6 and 0.9.9. I also tried using both kgcc and gcc-2.96. I have a problem with logging into xdm or starting the gnome-session totally locking up the machine while using ext3 0.9.9. It seems to go away using ext3-0.9.6. During xdm/gnome-session the hard disk is under heavy activity. I have attached my kernel config.

Naive newbie question: HTTP
Hi, Sorry if this is a crushingly dumb question... but would it be possible for pxelinux.0 to download it's kernel and initrd images via HTTP ? It strikes me that it would make this an amazingly flexible tool, especially if it passed on information about the requesting machine via HTTP Headers. Anyway, just a thought... I have now donned my flame retardant trowsers... Oh... and don't

2.2.19+ext3 or 2.4.1x+ext3 ?
I've not been happy with the stories about the "stable" 2.4.x kernels. Everywhere I read people saying "not for production use". Would you recommend adding ext3 to 2.2.19 (ext3-0.0.7a) or moving to 2.4.1x and using ext3 there (ext3-0.9.12)? -- -IAN! Ian! D. Reloading pxelinux via menu.c32
Hi All, I have used menu.c32 to offer several booting options to our users via pxelinux... the icing on the cake would be if there was some mechanism whereby the pxelinux boot could be restarted, with the usual search for pxelinux.cfg/... files... all without a reboot and going through POST. Does anyone know if this is possible or if a comboot module exists for such a thing ? Cheers, Doug

Passing commands from pxelinux to gpxe ?
Hi All, Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've managed to get pxelinux to load gpxe and then manually load linux by using the gpxe command line and HTTP for the kernel and initial ram disk. My question is whether it is possible to somehow pass gpxe commands through some mechanism other than the DHCP filename response. Since I don't have control over our DHCP infrastructure, but do

gpxelinux questions
Hi All, I've been enjoying playing with gpxe and gpxelinux, however I have a few questions that I'd love to get some answers for... 1) Will gpxelinux support chain loading of other NBPs without hanging or is this already resolved ? 2) Why does gpxelinux take much longer than pxelinux to enumerate the UUID, MAC address, then hex IP address chop ? 3) Can gpxelinux load gpxe scripts at all

Syslinux Digest, Vol 67, Issue 10
Hi Peter/Erwan et al, With my incredibly limited understanding of all things com32, years ago, I managed to write a com32 module to tell PXE users their MAC address, machine make, model and whether they were on a 32 or 64 bit processor. Users found this very useful when trying to re-image the 8,000 odd boxes spread round the globe. This was hugely based on Erwan Velu's dmitest.c circa 3.20.

Using pxelinux mboot.c32 to multiboot Solaris
Hi All, Now that we have multiboot capable pxelinux, thanks to mboot.c32, I decided to try and remove pxegrub from my x86 jumpstart infrastructure since, in theory, pxelinux can now do it all. The problem I'm having is I'm not very sure I'm following Tim's documentation correctly... I'm not 100% what comes after the --- and whether the Sun kernel needs it's arguments

ext3 and 2.4.10-ac12
Does anyone know if the 2.4.10-ac11 ext3 patch applies cleanly to 2.4.10-ac12? If so, do you think it's safe to use? Thanks!

SYSLINUX 4.03 released
It was actually released yesterday, but due to some technical difficulties I didn't get a chance to announce it properly: Syslinux 4.03 is primarily a bug fix release. Changes in 4.03: * Don't hang if no configuration file is found. * Better support for booting from MBRs which don't pass handover information. * EXTLINUX: Try to be smarter about
