Alternative to laptop
I am considering buying a small, and therefore easily portable, computer as an alternative to the laptop I already have. Obviously it would not have battery, a screen, nor a keyboard etc. but more or less be an easily portable computing unit to move between offices where a keyboard and monitor(s) could then be connected. I want to run CentOS 7, later CentOS 8.
The smaller, the better, however,

Hi folks,
I am able to install workstation successfully on a dedicated SSD w/ GPT

I have to boot the PC - than it works - till next unrecognition.
On USB2 plugs all works correct.
No messages in /var/log/messages nor dmesg.

asrock 775 dual-vsta mb and linux with sata raid
Hello,
I have the subject mentioned mb and I am trying to install centos 4.4 with
sata raid enabled, but linux is not seeing the drives?
I tried to load via sata raid driver, no luck there.
I guess I could try legacy mode in the bios, but I was hoping there is
another way around to load linux with the raid?
Thanks....

Unsupported Hardware that works fine?
I recently purchased a set of ASRock Intel i5 MB/CPU combos for a budget
compute cluster. Every time we load up a system and try to boot with a
recent EL6/64 ISO, we get a message that reads:

IOMMU and AMD 890fx
Hi,
All the reviews for the AMD 890fx chipset reported that it supports IOMMU
v1.2.
But I cannot find any mention of that on AMD site.
Does 890fx support IOMMU?
Do 890fx motherboards with IOMMU exist?
Does Xen support 890fx?
Regards,
Leonardo

Black screen after install / Centos 7.2
Hi, i just installed CentOS 7.2 on my little "server" but i get a black
screen during boot. It is a Asrock Am1h-itx mainboard with an AMD 5350
CPU (onboard graphic).
I created a raid 6 but i dont think thats the problem, as the boot
process goes pretty far. I would even say its going until X should
start, but it is a server install, so i guess there is no X.
Can someone tell me what

centos7+lightdm : no /almost no login screen
Hello All,
slightly unrelated because lightdm = epel, I know.
Still, maybe someone had the same issue.

Kernel 4.12 and nVidia Driver
I tried to move to the latest stable kernel (4.12) so I could take
advantage of my newest custom system (Intel Core I7 6-core; 64 GB RAM;
MSI nVidia graphics card; 2 - 120 GB SSD; 2 - 4TB WD Black) on a UEFI
Asrock mother board.
I've had the machine for 3-months but I couldn't get it to work until I
found out that the Nouveau driver was causing me all the 'hardware'
issues. I

AMD IOMMU + SME + amdgpu regression
Hi,
amdgpu + IOMMU + SME is now working for me on 5.7, yay! But, it is
broken on torvalds master, boo. On boot, depending on which exact commit
I test, it either hangs immediately (with built-in driver, before
starting initramfs), displays some errors then hangs, or spams the
screen with many amdgpu errors.
I bisected the black screen hang to:
commit dce8d6964ebdb333383bacf5e7ab8c27df151218

Intel HD4000 IGD pass through appears to work, but monitor complains about 'no signal'
I''ve seen a recent report claiming that it works:
http://linux-bsd-sharing.blogspot.pt/2012/10/howto-xen-413-windows-8-hvm-domu-with.html
However, in my case, with a slightly different HW configuration the story
is totally different. :-(
My config:

Dom0: Debian Wheezy stock xen (v4.1.3) + Debian stock kernel (3.2.x /

[PATCH] EFI booting may hang indefinitely when no keyboard is present
EFI booting may hang indefinitely when no keyboard is present on a
machine (or when UEFI has chosen to not init USB due to fast boot).
Reproducible at least with "EFI v2.31 by American Megatrends" on an
Asrock H81M-ITX board.
Reason is the input draining loop near the end in efi/main.c; it calls
ReadKeyStroke() as long as EFI_NOT_READY is not returned. On machines
without keyboard,
