Scientific Linux, Centos, Fedora, etc without grub (only extlinux)
OK, I can do Debian and Ubuntu installs that don't use grub (and don't even install it) and instead only use extlinux. The extlinux configuration gets automatically updated during kernel upgrades, changes to extlinux configuration in /etc, and so forth. Is there anyway to do this in a straightforward (or semi straightforward) way in a modern RedHat derivative? On old legacy installs that

gpt and extlinux how to get it bootable?
Hi I just tried to implement gpt extlinux booting in my archboot project. extlinux installs fine but i'm not able to boot the hd afterwards. Setting partition to boot on in parted doesn't seem to have an effect in GPT mode. Is there any way to get it booting, i haven't found any docu about it. Thanks in advance greetings tpowa -- Tobias Powalowski Archlinux Developer & Package

Samba 4.1.6 and 4.1.7 Kerberos problem on Debian Linux
I am trying to setup an AD using a Linux server to get away from Windows Server 2008. So far I have tried the setup on both a Debian 7.4 64 bit machine, and a Raspberry Pi (Debian variant). I've tried both Samba stable versions 4.1.6 and 4.1.7, and they both give me the same results. I followed the instructions to install the Samba 4 AD setup at

Nouveau on GeForce GTX 980M
Hi, I was wondering is it possible to can get my GeForce GTX 980M work with Nouveau. I see that the non "M" version if GTX 980 is supported ( https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/CodeNames/) but not the "M" version, how different are they? Now it uses Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe, from my understanding that's fallback using the cpu right? *lshw -C video:* *-display

any recent experience combining GlusterFS w/ Xen?
Hi Folks, Anybody have any recent experience building a small cluster that combines GlusterFS and Xen (with bonus points for a Debian environment)? We''re getting ready to shift from a 2-node Xen/Pacemaker/DRBD environment to a 4-node environment - and I''d really like to be able to create/migrate/failover/delete VMs transparently across all 4 nodes. Seems like Gluster might

Setting llvm::TargetOptions::GuaranteedTailCallOpt in LTO Code Generation
Hi Dwight Thanks for the feedback. For the issue you reported, there has been few reviews trying to tweak the -mllvm option when using legacy LTO interfaces (myself included) but it never got enough traction to moving forward. Note how -tailcallopt is implemented as a -mllvm flag means that it is a debug option and probably not well tested. The option is also not stable which means it can be

Setting llvm::TargetOptions::GuaranteedTailCallOpt in LTO Code Generation

[PATCH v3 2/7] dt-bindings: virtio: Add virtio-pci-iommu node
Some systems implement virtio-iommu as a PCI endpoint. The operating systems needs to discover the relationship between IOMMU and masters long before the PCI endpoint gets probed. Add a PCI child node to describe the virtio-iommu device. The virtio-pci-iommu is conceptually split between a PCI programming interface and a translation component on the parent bus. The latter doesn't have a node

wrong id for activerecord object when using :joins in mysql
I''m using a find with a :joins clause, like this: :joins => "JOIN table_b ON table_b.id=table_b_id" The records returned are used in a scaffold generated list page. The edit, show, and destroy links are getting the wrong id. They are getting the id of the table b record. When I run the query using mysql, I see that the query returns *2* id columns, the id of the main

Setting home path to a dir within a users Linux home dir
Is there a trick to append an additional directory level onto the defauly behavior of a [homes] share looking in /etc/passwd to find the users Linux home dir? It would offer a bit of protection if Windows clients ended up in say the WinHome directory within their Linux home directory when logging in from Windows so they are not tempted to tamper with their desktop settings files for Linux from

Setting llvm::TargetOptions::GuaranteedTailCallOpt in LTO Code Generation
Hi, I am lead developer of a project that is using LLVM to implement an ahead-of-time compiled functional language. We use llc -tailcallopt to ensure that functions that end in a tail call are compiled to a tail call at the machine level, because we have a number of cases in our interpreter where functions with different function signatures call one another in deeply nested recursive calls. inexpensive ways to make a rails application highly available? mysql replication?
I''m interested in making a low volume rails application very available. This means that I would like to have an alternate server for those times when the primary server is unavailable for whatever reason. Virtual private servers are fairly inexpensive so one could have a rails application on 2 different vps systems (not on the same server, possibly not even in the same city).

[PATCH v4 0/7] jailhouse: Enhance secondary Jailhouse guest support /wrt PCI
Basic x86 support [1] for running Linux as secondary Jailhouse [2] guest is currently pending in the tip tree. This builds on top and enhances the PCI support for x86 and also ARM guests (ARM[64] does not require platform patches and works already). Key elements of this series are: - detection of Jailhouse via device tree hypervisor node - function-level PCI scan if Jailhouse is detected -

Migrating to new Samba - LDAP schema change
I'm working on upgrading a Samba server from Version 2.2.8a to Version 3.0.4. One of the things I've noticed is that the samba.schema has changed. I'll admit that I haven't done an exhaustive search yet, but in looking over the documentation I haven't seen any mention of anything that needs to be done to migrate an existing directory to the new schema. Are there any tools

Error loading R Commander with version 2.10.1 on MacOS 10.5 or 10.6
Dear R Commander experts, I have now had multiple failures in loading R Commander with R version 2.10.1 (most recent one on the CRAN site) on a Mac running OS 10.5 or 10.6. The installation of R Commander seems to proceed normally, but when I try to start up R Commander, it never loads. It appears that it is loading the tcl/tk package that is failing even though I have started up X11 in advance.
