Slow RAID resync
OK todays problem.
I have a HP N54L Microserver running centos 6.5.
In this box I have a 3x2TB disk raid 5 array, which I am in the
process of extending to a 4x2TB raid 5 array.
I've added the new disk --> mdadm --add /dev/md0 /dev/sdb
And grown the array --> mdadm --grow /dev/md0 --raid-devices=4
Now the problem the resync speed is v slow, it refuses to rise above
5MB, in general

hard drive question - WD red
I see a really good price, and better for quantity, for 3TB drives. Now,
I've been down on WD for a couple of years, since I found that they'd
protected certain h/d parms from being changed (like TLER). The ones I'm
looking at are the Red, which seems to be a new color (at least to me),
and one technical review I've read says that they're intended for NAS,
etc, and you can

CentOS 6.6 64-bit won't install on a 3 TB disk

1: Is this system booting UEFI or BIOS?
2: Is the disk partitioned with MBR or GPT?
3: Is /boot on its own partition?
3TB drives are larger than MBR and BIOS properly support, so they're
only really expected to work on a system partitioned with

Is LSI SAS3081E-R suitable for a ZFS NAS ?
According to various posts the LSI SAS3081E-R seems to work well with OpenSolaris.
But I''ve got pretty chilled-out from my recent problems with Areca-1680''s.
Could anyone please confirm that the LSI SAS3081E-R works well ?
Is hotplug supported ?
Anything else I should know before buying one of these cards ?
Thanks,
Arnaud

Error changing server IP address: ERROR: Connecting to DNS RPC server
Samba Version 4.12.1
I'm trying to change server IP address from 10.0.0.69 to .3 on a single AD DC running also as fileserver (very small situation). I'm following this [1] guide, I have no interface restrictions in samba or in bind. I stop samba, change IP address, restart bind, start samba, but when I run samba_dnsupdate I get some messages until:

Network problems on new CentOS 5 install on P35, ICH9R mobo
Had to replace dying cpu and mobo, so also replaced IDE with new SATA
drive. Installed from latest ISO onto SATA and can't get networking to
lease an IP address from my ISP (Comcast). The network utility always
comes up with a private address (192.168.0.2) instead of Comcast IP.
To add to confusion, if I boot into old IDE drive, I get proper network
connection to internet, but lose my

Chrony
I just happened to notice this morning in /var/log/messages:
chronyd[1299]: Selected source 207.244.103.95

Just curious why my machine in Indiana (USA) is asking for time in Germany.
Wouldn't it use something closer ?
Thanks,

New install of 4.12.1: fileserver not visible when browsing network
I've just deployed an AD DC fileserver with Samba4 but the server itself is not available when browsing network computers from a Windows PC. Is it because of this [1][2] or did I misconfigure it?
Thanks

Is SUNWhd for Thumper only?
I read Ben Rockwood''s blog post about Thumpers and SMART
(http://cuddletech.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=993). Will the SUNWhd
package only work on a Thumper? Can I use this on my snv_101 system
with AMD 64 bit processor and nVidia SATA?

make_dev_physpath_alias
Hello all.
I have a supermicro 16 bay box with a LSI 9211-8i card.
We use it for temp data storage, and we wanted to try the l4z compression.
After updating the source tree to r247839: and doing a make buildworld
cycle all works fine.
But at boot time we get some warnings.

Intermittent permission denied when accessing share
I'm having a weird situation with a freshly installed Samba v4.12.1 compiled from source. This is a single server with DC and fileserver, I followed all the guidelines for doing things correctly in this specific situation and I hope I haven't missed anything.
The server works correctly as expected, I'm managing all the permissions from Windows.
