Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module and assigned IP) with samba? Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made it work? FAQs tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is the server? Trust me, the HP doesn't know jack about port 139. Using samba 2.0.4 on Solaris 7 and NT 4.0 SP5 with

Best Printer Setup
Hi, I've been toying with the idea of using the Linux machine as a print server. I'm using RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3. I already have one remote printer share working... but I can't figure out where the PrintTool in RedHat is storing the remote printers IP address. Anyone know where? :) (not important just bugging me - I hate when OS's hide stuff) I have the Samba book

adding printers from netlogon script
While this doesn't relate specifically to Samba, I need to do this in a netlogon .bat file in a Samba domain. In my network, I have a printer hooked to a JetDirect so that it is a TCP/IP printer. Is there a way I can automatically have this printer mapped/added when the user is logged on? -- Andrew Gaffney

job fails to print via samba 2.2.6-pre1 - lpd ASCII a nd postscript test works fine...
Ah, it appears that I have confused myself... I indeed have ALL of the queues defined as JetDirect with the model specific driver selected in printconf. With this combination I am telling linux to modify the job [via the filter] and then pass it as a RAW [jetdirect] where I SHOULD just have the queue define as JetDirect with a RAW as the driver and let the job go as transmitted by the client

Installing HP Color Laserjet 3500 printer in CentOS 5
OK, I've downloaded and installed the driver (pxljr-1.1-1.i386.rpm), and the ppd file (HP-Color_LaserJet_3550-pxljr.ppd) in /etc/cups/ppd. Now I'm trying to set up the printer, connected to the network via a JetDirect printer server at location 192.168.0.200. Trouble is, I'm really not sure about all the settings in Printer Configuration - specifically, what should the Device URI be -

printer giving Access Denied
I have 2 printer queues setup on my samba 3.0.6 NT4-style PDC. About a month ago, one of them stopped working due to an issue with CUPS. After restarting CUPS, printing to that share was giving Access Denied. From a windows box, I was able to add drivers and set default print settings as a domain administrator but I still couldn't print. I created a new printer share pointing at the same

SuSE 7.1 timeout problem
Hello, I just moved from SuSE 7.0 to SuSE 7.1 by reinstalling. I use HP 2100TN JetDirect printer. I use kernel-2.4.2, LPRng-3.6.26, ifhp-3.4.4, Samba-2.0.7 Printing from Linux server works just as before. Printing from Windows clients has problems. I set it up just like before but any print job from Windows takes its while and then spits out junk: -------------------------- ERROR: timeout

JetDirect
Hi, WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now. The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago (within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you _MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??) This can be confirmed if you have an NT only shop. In the

web & printer servers
Hi list, I have a Centos server (192.168.1.10) and HP printer (LaserJet 4250dtn) with IP 192.168.1.20. HP printer is connecting to my server via Ethernet and I can print ok. What I want to do now is trying to tie HP printer to my server, so when I type http://192.168.1.10/printers/, I'll see my HP printer and be able to connect to it, then print. Has anyone got this to work? Please

Printer with driver from Samba prints only b/w
Hi, sorry if this is off topic, but it only happens when samba is involved, maybe anybody here has an idea. System info: - Clients used were Win10, ranging from 1803 to 1903. - The DCs are running Samba 4.7.6. - The print server is a member server. I tried both scenarios with two samba print servers, Ubuntu 18.04, Cups 2.7. One had Ubuntus Samba, 4.7.6. The other used Louis van Belles 4.10.7. -

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

jetdirect printer configuration
I am trying to set up a jetdirect plotter in our network (samba server running un suse linux 6.2). When I start printing from on of the windows boxes everything seems fine but the printing files only show up in the spooling directories on the samba server. The plotter (HP Designjet 650 C) never receives anything. Here are the relevant parts of my smb.conf and my printcap file: PRINTCAP:

LPRng question
<It seems that the print command is trying to find the printer at location 'localhost'. Since this is a network printer it is not at localhost is it?> Yeah, the error messages made no sense to me either! Well, like I said earlier: < The IP address of this printer is 10.1.1.192. I call this printer nero, and have it listed in my /etc/hosts file> Here is a copy of part of my

HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello, I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers. I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba. I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

Your message Re: Samba and printer comments (July 5 1999)
Yes unfortunately I do not have much luck recieving help from the SAMBA mailing list. After much playing I found something weird that was seemingly causing incorrect comments. Most printers would recieve the comment - "no entries" which originally I assumed to be the default comment given by Win95 when it could not get a proper comment. However I later found that this is not the case.

Printing Postscript - Very Weird Problem.
Hey folks, okay, here's the situation - I have a Centos 4.2 system with cups printing installed printing via postcript (with appropriate PPD file) to a HP LaserJet 1320N printer (via jetdirect socket 9100). Everything seems to work right - except for an unusual 'font'??? problem. Many letters seem to be just slightly garbled. At first I thought this was a mechanical problem at

my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello, It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The output of the lpq
