unloading memdisk
Hi Peter, I'm using isolinux and memdisk to create a multiboot rescue cd for personal use as described on Bart's page (www.nu2.nu). One boot item is to boot DOS 7.1 from Win98SE with a lot of other staff for emergencies. This DOS bootimage puts all necessary stuff into it's own ramdisk (XMSDSK). Some progs on the ramdisk needs access to floppy drive A: and unfortunately I've no

Help Memdisk + Pxelinux hangs
Hello, I am a *nix newbie I am trying to boot a DOS boot disk using PXE (to Ghost on windows images). We have an existing PXE server which successfully serves out PXElinux and Fedora builds based on that but my floppy disk image with memdisk isn't working I have tried a few different floppy images which people have posted as ones that work for them but I doubt the disk is the problem

DOCMEMORY 2.0 (simmtester) and MEMDISK
Like a lot of people, I am using SYSLINUX + MEMDISK to make a technician universal boot disk on a USB key (I have done the same with ISOLINUX and MEMDISK for a CD using Bart's method for bootable CDs) I *LOVE* Syslinux and MEMDISK, and what I can do with floppy images! I have a few problems that have cropped up, most notably the DOCMEMORY program (www.simmstester.com) boots fing, but the

Memdisk and big floppy images
In other words: I'm suggesting to use WinImage as it also allows easy injection of new files *and* updating of already existing files. May I ask which vendor is distributing a DOS FW update that is 20MB? I'd like to see the files. Sometimes you just need the .bin/.rom and the actual FW update EXE and it would fit a 5MB FDD image. Large Floppy Images
I have periodically been trying to get memdisk to boot images larger than your average 1.44Mb floppy and have always been unsuccessful. I cannot boot anything greater than 1.44Mb. The systems I'm attempting to do this with are not too old but they are not recent either. One is a Asus P5A and the other is a Intel SE440BX both with the most recent bios firmware patches available applied. If

Memdisk and big floppy images
Dear Syslinux folks, For a firmware update I am following the Gentoo Wiki [1] to create a floppy image of 20 MB, so that the vendor update utility fits. Unfortunately, FreeDOS does not load, and it seems to hang loading the FreeDOS kernel. The original FreeDOS image boots. Do you know if that issue is memdisk related? It?s started from GRUB with the commands below. linux16 /boot/memdisk

Usin ISO Linux & Memdisk to create a Viritual Floppy drive that Linux & Windows can load driver disk from.
Hi, It is becoming a bad habit for big OEM vendors to sell computers & servers without floppy drives. Unfortunatly both Windows and Linux (RedHat) need a floppy drive to load storage drivers etc. during installation. This is what I was thinking: Use ISOLINUX and MEMDISK to load a floppy image of a driver disk into memory as a viritual floppy drive "A:"/"/dev/fda" And then

Large disk image boot. Any suggestions?
Hello, I am managing 15 separate boot disks with various network disk images. These disk images are used for network installs of Windows OS's. Basically the network boot disk contains dos, the network drive in question and the connection information to the shared server for doing a ghost install. The problem is the 1.44 disk doesn't hold enough space to accomplish the job. What I

Standard file extensions for zipped floppy images
Hi, I was wondering what's the best standard file extension for zipped DOS disk images and ramdisks. I've been using the following standard: .zi kernels, memtest86, memdisk .igz .img.gz zipped floppy images and ramdisks I'd rather have a different extension for ramdisks, maybe .zim zipped floppy images .zrd zipped ramdisks Any ideas ? It would also be nice if syslinux

Laptop+SDMMC+Extlinux+Memdisk+Floppy images=headaches
Hello syslinuxers I'm stuck with a scientific problem which gives me headaches: I have a laptop (Gateway MX3410) which has a SD memory card reader. Recently an interesting thought crossed my mind: why don't I setup a 2GB SD card as a harddrive and put some rescue tools on it. So I dug on the net and I came across the idea of using memdisk to boot floppy images without the need of a

memdisk question
Hello, I am using syslinux 3.63 and I am trying to get an image file going for ghost. I was able to get the unicast image working by using winimage and creating the format for the image as 2.88mb and saving the boot sector as win 95/98. I tried the same thing with a ghost multicast image and it doesn't work, says invalid system disk.. Lots are variables so I am not sure where

Rebooting to hard drive from DOS floppy
Hi all, Do any of you have any ideas for getting a DOS floppy to reboot to the hard drive (which may contain Windows 98 or XP or Linux or Novell etc etc)? I want to use syslinux, but it does not support the localboot option like pxelinux and isolinux do. Basically, I want to boot DOS from a floppy, run some DOS stuff, then reboot to the hard drive while leaving the floppy disk in the drive.

nopassany parameter causing trouble
I'm running into an issue which I didn't expect to encounter. When specifying the "nopassany" parameter to hide physical drives, I'm getting different output from ELTORITO.SYS (v1.5, syslinux distro) such that it fails. My intent is a LiveCD functionality with a DOS RAMDISK program taking over as drive C:, meaning either no FAT partitions on harddisks and removable disks

syslinux PXE boot version upgrade, network no longer working
Hardware with issue is a Lenovo T410 (circa 2007?): SysLinux PXE boot (pxelinux.0) version 2009 - PXE boot works, select Ghost from PXE menu, PC-DOS loads, Ghost.exe runs and networking is working for Ghostcast/peer to peer. SysLinux PXE boot (pxelinux.0) version 2014 - PXE boot works, select Ghost from PXE menu, PC-DOS loads, Ghost.exe runs and networking is NOT working for Ghostcast/peer to
