Syslinux 3.85 chain.c32 problem solved
Thanks to debugging information from Thomas Mieslinger, I have root-caused the failure of chain.c32 in Syslinux 3.85. I have put out Syslinux 3.86-pre1 and Syslinux 4.00-pre33 which fix the problem. I expect to release a Syslinux 3.86 relatively shortly (ideally in the next two weeks), with bug fixes only. I would like to figure out if there are other bug fixes we can get in in reasonable time,

Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
This isn't an esp urgent issue, but I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on

ISOLINUX 3.85 chain.c32 issue
Hi all, I have a similar issue with Thomas Mieslinger mentioned in the previous mail. The difference is here isolinux is used instead of gpxelinux.0. I use isolinux 3.85, and "chain.c32 hd0" to boot the local Debian Lenny Linux on VMWare workstation 6.5, it fails. If I replace it with isolinux 3.84, it works. Hope this report helps. sub-menu's
Unless someone already has a snazzy isolinux image that lets you select multiple makes and models to update bios's that's willing to share. I was curious if someone could tell me how to go from my isolinux.cfg into sub menu categories so instead of having one great big menu with multiple makes models and bios revisions, I can drill down into menu's until i get to the bios revisions to

menu.c32 is not a COM32R image
Hello ! I am completely new to syslinux. I followed this instruction manually: http://www.wonkity.com/~wblock/docs/html/pxe.html I am on debian and do not have syslinux installed, but using this debian box as a tftp server. I had to modify the instructions given by the installation above. I downloaded the 6.02 version and copied the files to the tftp root. I am using dnsmasq as a tftp

PXELINUX hanging when booting floppy images
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I am trying to create a PXE setup with floppy images for all needed utilities - for example, BIOS flash for various motherboards, disk diagnostic tools, memtest86+, etc. I've gotten memtest86+ to work (using the .bin), and some of the disk images work - however, some disk images will not boot. All of the images were pulled from working, bootable

PXELINUX No network device problem
Good morning. I am trying to do a dhcp/pxelinux network install for redhat linux. I have a new Dell computer with a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gibabit controller. I am getting the following errors: Getting Kickstart file. ASSERT: no network device in ChooseNetworkInterface No network drivers for doing kickstart unable to bring up network. I've searched this lists archives for the word ASSERT

any way to get pxelinux to grab its config file from another host?
I'm using gpxe to chain to pxelinux on a different host than gpxe was loaded from. The chain command looks like this chain tftp://other-host/pxelinux.0 Unfortunately, pxelinux is ignoring other-host and going back to the original host to look for its files. Is there any way to alter this behavior? Thanks, Mike

memtest86+.. How do I load it with pxelinux?
I've just spent at least half an hour swapping files, downloading things and stuffing around with memtest86 and memtest86+. I can't get either to start from pxelinux. Currently I have "memtest86" as the filename, and i'm trying to load it direct (not trying to use memdisk or anything). This just results in a near instant reboot. Am I doing something wrong? I can't

[PXELINUX]A PXE booting question, please
Hi all, I was trying to install Red Hat Linux 7.3 on my computer through network install. I had setup TFTP server and Linux network install server. DHCP server is ready as well. The ROM of onboard network card was enabled, the chip on the card is Realtek R8111B. Everything was fine at the booting stage, machine got the IP and booted up with the pxelinux, then kernel vmlinuz and initrd.img

Problem with menu.c32
It looks like there's a bug in menu.c32, specifically dealing with the number of times you change menu pages. When a total (including the default load) of 28-29 loads of menu.c32 occurs the whole system will hang (ctrl+alt+del doesn't do anything). Looks like it's a problem concerning the number of file handles or something along those lines. The easiest way to duplicate the

SYSLINUX 3.85 released
Syslinux 3.85 is a bug fix and minor new feature release. The biggest change is undoubtedly that gPXELINUX is now considered feature complete, and should be able to be a drop-in for PXELINUX for all uses. Special thanks to Intel Corporation, my current employer, for their support for my Syslinux work. Changes in 3.85: * gPXELINUX: updated to gPXE 1.0.0. gPXELINUX can now do NBP

sub menus / multiple distros on usb key w/ syslinux
being a complete novice with syslinux, I was hoping someone here could help me out. I have a USB Key that I have "broken" into two areas. General storage in the "back" and space for several live distributions on the front. What I need to do now is figure out how to make a syslinux.cfg file that would let me pick which one to boot at startup time. Basically, I want a menu

Where to RTFM details of kernel options/parameters.
Newbie question here. I am doing some work with Bering uClibC and have been wondering about the meaning of the various parameters in the syslinux.cfg file. I have already read the FAQ (http://syslinux.zytor.com/faq.php) which leaves me wondering where to find more information on the 'default' and 'append' parameters. For example, what are all of the kernel and other arguments that
