syslinux 4.06pre11 issues
I've recently purchased an SSD with the goal of having a portable MS-Windows installation, something which Windows 8's "Windows to Go" feature allows (install to, and boot/run from, USB flash device). Housing the SSD in an external Zalman VE300 case allows presenting ISO files as hardware CD/DVD/BD drive with inserted medium. Having the ISO files present, it's tempting

SYSLINUX 3.83-pre3
I *think* I have found and fixed the Thinkpad MEMDISK problem. The problem with MS-DOS I understand... not so when it comes to an apparently unrelated FreeDOS problem, and as such I really don't know *why* the hack I did works, nor if it will *stay* fixed, but at least it seems to boot on my T61 (at least until it crashes due to another error...) -hpa -- H. Syslinux DOS-based installer in FreeDOS
Testing the DOS-based Syslinux installer, syslinux.com, with the "-m" parameter, I found that it works as expected under MS-DOS and its DOS variants, but it seems to fail under FreeDOS (please correct me if I'm wrong). Using FreeDOS kernel v.2041 (386f32), Syslinux v.6.03-pre11 and either FAT16 or FAT32 partitions, executing: syslinux.com -m -i c: or: syslinux.com -f -m -i

Any workaround for ThinkPad memdisk?
Hi, I saw the Nov. 2006 message on Memdisk having a problem with ThinkPads. I also saw the comment in the memdisk code enabling and disabling A20. I've got a ThinkPad x61t that memdisk is not loading disk images on. The symptom is that it gets as far as saying "Loading boot sector... booting..." Then image partially runs - FreeDOS prints out its kernel message and it's

SYSLINUX 2.01-pre1 released
This isn't strictly speaking a SYSLINUX release, it's a change to MEMDISK and mkdiskimage to allow the creation of hard disk images with DOSEMU headers. This should make it easier to create bootable DOS hard disk images under DOSEMU. ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/ -hpa

syslinux installation issues
I've recently returned to working on FreeDOS again after quite some time, and read about an unmerged MEMDISK branch that allows to boot DOS-based ISOs. This seemed quite usefull to me as it allows for faster modifications to my code/scripts/disklayout. The general idea was to install Syslinux 3.83 to harddisk, then add the modified Memdisk from that boot-land forum, as well as my ISO. In

Syslinux 3.83 released
Hi all, I have just released Syslinux 3.83. Special thanks to my employer, Intel, for letting me spend time on this. It is somewhat of a meager release despite four months, as most of the work has gone into the future-work branches. -hpa Changes in 3.83: * PXELINUX: clear memory before handing over to a chainloaded NBP. This may help avoid a bug in Windows RIS. *

MEMDISK issues and Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems
Hello all. Again I call upon the greats of this mailing list to help me with an issue related to MEMDISK - notably when paired with various Dell OptiPlex and Latitude systems. The issue presented itself sometime ago and I best dealt with it by remaining with version 3.83 of the SYSLINUX package. But valuing the improved changes fostered by newer versions, I would prefer to move forward with

keeppxe+memdisk+FreeDOS example?
Hi, I'm trying to get the above working, without success so far: UNDIS.DOS refuses to load with an invalid NDIS stack message (from memory). keeppxe has some effect: it reduces the available conventional memory by 140 kbytes or so... still, the packet driver doesn't seem to find the interface. Does anybody have a working setup I could look at? -- Thanks, Feri.

Last call before syslinux 2.08
I am planning to release SYSLINUX 2.08 in the next day or so; basically 2.08-pre9 without any further changes. So, I would appreciate any and all testers for this... -hpa

Problem with FreeDOS + himem64 + PXELINUX + memdisk
(FreeDOS developers, I apologize for the redundant parts of this message. But I want to bring the SYSLINUX folks into the discussion, and the SourceForge mailing list archives are broken.) Background: I have a little Sourceforge project (http://unattended.sourceforge.net/) for which I use SYSLINUX to provide CD-ROM and PXE boot support for my boot disk. And it works great with MS-DOS. However,

lua not working on syslinux-6.03-pre18
I've upgraded from syslinux-4.05 to syslinux-6.03-pre18 (pre11 was the same) and am having some issues getting lua.c32 to work. I'm using lpxelinux.0 if that's relevant. My boot file and the contents of default.lua are below. As you can see they are fantastically simple. Essentially I'm just using lua to put the results of ipappend in the right place on the command line. The

I have just pushed out SYSLINUX 3.10-pre11. This version hopefully should fix Curtis' bug (display file garbage) as well as the NOESCAPE problem. Curtis, Alex and Paul, could you try this version out, please? -hpa

testing out 6.03 network booting...
Hi all, wasnt sure whether this was the best place to put this information; but something seems to have gone 'backwards' in the later pre-releases of 6.03 regarding network booting. below are results of me testing - i did each a few times to make sure they are valid results. hope it helps identify something that's gone awry ? so far, 6.03 pre11 and pre13 (excluding efi32) seem most
