Fail over
For all my PBX installations I want to have Fail Over on the main incoming PSTN line so that a power outage does not leave the offices stranded. Is there any commercial solution to this? I would rather a finished product than a home soldering project. Chris Mason masonc@masonc.com Box 340, The Valley, Anguilla, British West Indies Tel. Building source rpms does not build all the rpms.
I just downloaded the 2.2.4-2 src.rpm file from samba.org and installed and compiled on my intel-redhat 7.2 system. When I changed to /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386 I found only i386/samba-2.2.4-2.i386.rpm in it. There was no other rpms, even though the spec file says there will be. Here's the last few lines of the build output, I only see two rpms being created.

no mapping between account names and security ids was done
I use a openLDAP database for authentication on my Redhat 7.2 server. The domain is "HOME". I have had no problem adding trust accounts and authenticating against it. Today I had to change the name of my Win2K workstation from poseiden to poseiden1 for compatibility with a package I am testing. Once I changed it and put in a new trust account, I could not rejoin the domain. I gave up and

Internet Telephony, net2phone
As a newbie, can anyone advise me if Asterisk can route international calls to a US based service such as Net2Phone so we can take advantage of the internet and save on calls? That would be my main reason for an Asterisk based PBX. Chris Mason masonc@masonc.com Box 340, The Valley, Anguilla, British West Indies Tel: 264 497 5670 Fax: 264 497 8463 Cell: 264 235 5670

Dynamic updating DNS with win2K workstations
My office network has a RH 7.3 server running Bind 9, Samba, WINS for NetBIOS name resolution, ten+ Win2K workstations, and uses DHCP from the Linksys router to hand out IPs for the workstations. Is there any way to do dynamic DNS updates so that the workstations' IPs are tracked in DNS? Chris Mason masonc@masonc.com Box 340, The Valley, Anguilla, British West Indies Tel: 264 497 5670 Fax:

Upgrade RPM for redhat 9 to solve password change problem
My redhat 9 server is using samba-2.2.7a-8.9.0 - everything was fine until I recently tried to change the users password from his workstation, and got the famous "Domain is not available" error. I would like to upgrade the server's samba install but not anything else as everything on the server is stable and I can't have a lot of disruption if there are upgrade problems, which

Name resolution problem, looking for advice on best solution
I have a Redhat 7.2 server for DNS, Web, File Sharing via Samba, for my SOHO network of 6 Win2K workstations. I have a workgroup, not a domain. The server is on a static IP and the workstations are DHCP assigned the Dlink gateway, which also tells them the DNS IP. I am having a problem where some of the workstations can see some of the others in Network Neighbourhood, but some can't. SMB

Directory went missing
I had a major problem to today. The owner of a company I built a network for had a directory in her home directory containing most of her work documents go missing. I looked at the log for her workstation and she did work on them in the morning. By afternoon, she return to her workstation and tried to open the directory but it was gone. The directory and all the directories and files were there

Samba + BIND9 DLZ. DNS dosen't resolve FQDN, only short hostname
Hm, I thought this to be the very TLD that is specifically assigned for local networks with no plans to become Internet-wide. What is the recommended TLD for such networks then? Questions about reverse zone
Hi Guys, I've two DC (Zentyal Samba 4.7.6) and put new DC (Centos 7, Samba 4.7.6) with additional domain controller and works fine. My question is about reverse zone. The original DC (zentyal1 and zentyal2) have a reverse registres ``` root at zentyal1:/etc/bind# dig +noall +answer -x 10.13.250.110 110.250.13.10.in-addr.arpa. 259200 IN PTR zentyal1.example.com. root at zentyal1:/etc/bind# dig

Teliax Problems
One might also conclude that during the outage the support people were focusing on getting the system back up and were not near phones. At least that is what I would bet on. Just a thought considering how most of the smaller ITSPs seem to work. Help with installing on Supermicro X6DHT-G server Marvell H2 SATA
I am trying to build a file server with 1 x 80 GB main drive and 4 x 500 GB SATA drives in RAID in a Supermicro 3U server. I found out the hard way that Centos 4.2 does not have a driver for the onboard Marvell H2 controller the drives are connected to. Supermicro techs sent me aar81xx.rhel4qu2.i686.img as an img file. I used dd to copy to a floppy and dd confirmed successful write. I booted

Best VoIP provider
It does not look like Nufone is still in business, judging from the content on their site, which is very little. There is not even a configuration document to download, to connect to their network. The rates file is only for US/Canada calling. No international rates on this rates.csv file. I have signed up with a $5.00 account with them way back in November 2004. After signup, I havent received

default Bind on CentOS 4.4 and reverse DNS subnets issue?
Anybody knows if the Bind version on CentOS 4.4 (9.2.4) has issues with doing reverse DNS for subnets? (networks smaller than /24) I keep a reverse DNS /26 subnet on Bind 9.3.1 (Fedora) and it works fine. I've a /27 subnet on CentOS 4 (bind 9.2.4), exactly the same config just different subnets and addresses, and it does not work. I do a "dig @localhost .......in-addr.arpa. PTR"

I ave a several windows 2K workstations in a local network, and I am using Samba 2.2.4 on a Redhat 7.2 server for file storage and DNS. LDAP - adding info to database
I have installed openldap and the samba.idealx.org ldap configuration and scripts, and now I have ldap authentication working wonderfully well. I'd like to be able to use the same ldap user database for other info such as phone numbers, email, etc, but I don't know how to add it or whether it is a good idea. Anyone done this?
