Making TIMEOUT work?
I have problems getting the TIMEOUT value work the same way LILO/GRUB does it.. ie it should wait until the timeout and then use the default value. However, it goes straight for the default value without waiting a single second (and a TIMEOUT value of 500 should mean 50 seconds, as it counts in 1/10th of a second, right?) RFC 3942 notice: PXELINUX, DHCP options 208-211
Dear friends, In accordance with RFC 3942 I would like to submit the following DHCP options for official consideration. These options are used by PXELINUX, which is part of the SYSLINUX distribution, and although exact usage count is impossible to determine, is widely held to be the most widely used method for booting Linux from a network. ---------- Option 208: pxelinux.magic (string)

[PATCH] mboot using module path
Hi, We are using pxelinux at my company to test our product. And there are limitations that we have hit in the past w.r.t. the max length of a path, or the max length of a module name (in mboot.c / mboot.c32). We've used workarounds in the past, and reorganized the directory structure, but we face that problem again. Out of the 128 / FILENAME_MAX chars that can be used, 110 - 120 go to the

Handling error scenarios in the core
With my recent work on UI/DEFAULT, I've been hunting around in the core code to find any other locations that this new usage would be useful. As a result, I've come up with a few questions. 1) core/com32.inc: not_com32r jumps to enter_command. Should it do something based on ONERROR? 2) core/comboot.inc: comboot_bogus_tail and comboot_too_large go to enter_command. Again, use ONERROR?

Does pxelinux work with >1GB RAM?
On machines with 2GB RAM, pxelinux doesn't seem to work for me. With Intel PXE, I had to limit the memory available to PXE to 768MB RAM. Has anyone tried pxelinux on machines with >= 1GB RAM? How do I limit memory to 768MB for pxelinux? H.J.

Accessing command_line from core C code
I tried to replace display_labels asm code (ui.inc) with new C code (pm_display_labels), but the data i access in command_line doesn't seem to be always up to date. The patch i am working on is only for PXELINUX because of different vkernel structure: diff --git a/core/com32.inc b/core/com32.inc index 111590c..f19df7c 100644 --- a/core/com32.inc +++ b/core/com32.inc @@ -135,6 +135,7 @@

guest VM waiting for a symbol at serial console
Hi, Recently I`ve run into weird bug, which may be reproduced in following way: - start qemu virtual machine configured with direct boot and kernel args like 'console=tty0 console=ttyS0,38400n8', connect to serial console, disconnect and then shutdown vm - try to start vm again, machine hangs on booting kernel until I press any key into 'virsh console' session - after first power

RH8.0 kernel lockup with PXELinux on x440
Howdy. We've got a couple IBM x440 (Summit) 8-way Xeon systems that I've been trying to get netbooting for a while. Since we use Kickstart and SystemImager to load OSes on our systems, a system has to be able to netboot before it can be made available to folks for project use. System BIOS is the current one, v1.08. They're booting from a planar BroadCom Tigon3 adapter. BIOS

[PATCH 1/1] COMBOOT: add get config file full name
From: Gene Cumm <gene.cumm at gmail.com> COMBOOT API: Add get config full file name to SYSLINUX Signed-off-by: Gene Cumm <gene.cumm at gmail.com> --- Returns the full configuration file name. Int 22h AX 001Eh for now as it appears that the COMBOOT API is designed to be strictly sequential. The API gets extended but only implemented (for now) for SYSLINUX in ldlinux.asm.

x86 vs. x86_64 detection proof of concept patch (try two)
Greetings all, Sorry, resending this with the attachment inline. First of all, a disclaimer: Please forgive my horrible assembly code. This is just a quick munging of code to achieve x86 versus x86_64 detection within pxelinux. So please look at it as a proof of concept and not a real piece of code. :) For example it only works on pxelinux and has no thought for extending it beyond simple x86

new to xen - got questions, please
I just installed Centos 5.5 with the xen kernel on an older machine. It has Xeon processors and a 700 Mhz processor speed, so I realize I must use para-virtualized guests. Reading the Centos/RH Virtualization Guide gives examples of the process of installing guest hosts, but it only lists installing Windows as a fully-virtualized host. Is that because they only showed those types of examples

[GIT PULL] elflink warning fixes and auto extension support
Hi, I just pushed out changes that fix pretty much all the compiler build warnings on the elflink branch. Also, I've added "auto extension" support so that if the user doesn't type the file name extension it will automatically be looked up, e.g. now typing "ls" will execute "ls.c32". The following changes since commit

Maximum line length of APPEND option in PXELINUX
Hi, I just replaced the pxelinux.0 of some 2.x version by pxelinux.0 vers. 3.0.7. Some of the PXE Clients refused to boot thereafter (just stopped after reading the config file). I noticed that the APPEND line was too long. Is this intentional? What is the maximum length of the APPEND option line? Thanks, Thomas
