[LLVMdev] Is NASM supported by LLVM?
I saw some LLVM generated assembly in NASM format, but did find this
support in the official release. Is this supported?

MEMDISK, MDISKCHK.COM
Just a slight poke regarding the MEMDISK and MDISKCHK.COM possibilities
available here[1]. Review by non-hpas is welcome, too. Thanks! - Shao

I began my original message saying that I was providing
"constructive criticism". That means I want to HELP if I

PATCH: coding style fixes
a) A previous patch for stream_encoder_intrin_xxxx.c removes
definitions of abs_residual_partition_sum variables but leaves
unnecessary empty line after it. The first attached patch removes them.
b) The second attached patch fixes coding style for lpc_asm.nasm:
mov{space}ebp, esp
to
mov{tab}ebp, esp
etc.

Syslinux 6.04-pre1
After so much time and improvements, I'm glad to see and publicize a
pre-release, 6.04-pre1 in
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/6.04/
Personally, I've already been working testing the pre-release as-is
and my tests have been positive so far. I appreciate feedback like
that from Gabriele Balducci and testing "make bios installer".

utils/isohybrid.c #inclusion of <uuid/uuid.h>
Good day, Matthew.
I recently got stuck while building Syslinux as <uuid/uuid.h> doesn't exist
on my system. The #inclusion was introduced in commit
2c3a24e5f4b807ec31595227afa59a818c060ca9. Whence does this file come, if
you please? I'm assuming it is the Linux kernel's, but can't seem to
understand the directory prefix, in that case.

Announcing our 2009 Google Summer of Code students
Congratulations to our 2009 Google Summer of Code Students:
Claudiu Mihail
Liu Aleaxander
Claudiu will work on CLI/parser migration to C, and Liu will work on
ext4 support and filesystem migration to C. In combination, this should
help get Syslinux into a much more portable state.
We're looking forward to your work!

Exporting real-mode functions
A question was asked on the IRC channel about how to get the address of
a real-mode symbol -- or any assembly symbol in general.
The answer is that you have to declare it global.
In NASM syntax:
global func
func:
In GAS syntax:
.globl func
func:

[PATCH] ifplop.c32: Detect if PLoP USB/CD INT13h hook is enabled/disabled
New module which check if the PLoP Boot Loader already has booted a
CDROM or USB drive by checking for the presence of the PLoP INT13h hook.
The following assembly code (NASM) can detect the PLoP INT13h hook:
mov eax,'PoLP' ; Reverse of 'PLoP'
mov ebp,'DKHC' ; Reverse of 'CHKD'
int 13h
cmp eax,' sey' ; Reverse of 'yes '

Syslinux 3.81 released
Hi everyone,
I have pushed out Syslinux 3.81 to the usual places.
Again, special thanks to my employer, Intel, for letting me spend time
working on this stuff ;)
-hpa
Syslinux 3.81 is primarily a bug fix release. The main new features
are halt-on-idle support and some features to isohybrid, including the
ability to boot from an image written to a partition.

Renaming The Default Branch
Hi Everyone,
Many tech communities, including GitHub <https://github.com/github/renaming>
and Git <https://sfconservancy.org/news/2020/jun/23/gitbranchname/>, have
moved away from term “master branch” and replaced it with “main branch” in
an
effort to remove unnecessary references to slavery and use more inclusive
terms. This was also discussed on the LLVM-dev mailing list

The "core32" development branch
Well, there is now a development branch in the git repository, which
contains the infrastructure needed for rewriting the core in C. As an
initial test case it simply contains a "Hello, World!" and a rewrite of
rllpack in C.
This is not production code in any way: SYSLINUX (the FAT version) is
completely broken (I haven't had time to fix the installers yet) and the
Linux kernel

--compare-dest option
I'm translating rsync.1, and i'm having some problems with the
--compare-dest option description, actually i dont understand the part
which describes the usefulness of this option, it says :
This is useful for doing transfers to a new destination while leaving
existing files intact, and then doing a flash-cutover when all
files have been successfully transferred (for

Possible overfitting of a GAM
The subject is a Generalized Additive Model. Experts caution us against
overfitting the data, which can cause inaccurate results. I am not a
statistician (my background is in Computer Science). Perhaps some kind soul
would take a look and vet the model for overfitting the data.
The study estimated the ebb and flow of traffic through a voting place. Just
one voting place was studied; the

[LLVMdev] MmapAllocator
Hi folks,
I've been doing work on memory reduction in Unladen Swallow, and
during testing, LiveRanges seemed to be consuming one of the largest
chunks of memory. I wrote a replacement allocator for use by
BumpPtrAllocator which uses mmap()/munmap() in place of
malloc()/free(). It has worked flawlessly in testing, and reduces
memory usage quite nicely in Unladen Swallow.
The code is available

[LLVMdev] MmapAllocator
Hi Steven-
Nice, but will this not break Windows? From an initial glance over your patch, it seems to assume the existence of mmap() in some form or other.

moving netbios alias between machines
I would like to move a netbios alias (e.g. 'testname') from one machine
to another. Seems like an easy enough thing to do: remove it from
machine 'a', and add it to machine 'b'.
I've done this, but all's not well in netbios land. My clients still
want to talk to the old machine, and do. Do I simply have to be more
patient? How patient? Is there anything that
