Syslinux search for config file
New idea proposal: Currently syslinux (and others) searches in for its config file, say syslinux.cfg, in a hardcoded list of directories. I propose that if the config file is not found, instead of producing an error message like "unable to locate config file", it should try to search in root directories and its subdirectories. There is -d option to install syslinux to any directory

SysLinux Development Questions
Hello, I'm thinking of using sysliux as the basis for a TCG OPAL Pre-Boot Authorization program (COM32 module). I can add AHCI and SATA support in a COM32 module to implement IDENTIFY, iF-SEND and IF-RECV, but my understanding of syslinux falls short in several areas. I have a few questions that I would like to ask: com32 modules in UEFI 64bit mode: The AHCI and SATA memory layouts have a

Chainload El Torito grub2 from syslinux from a partition table
Hello, I have the following scenario: - GPT Partitioned USB disk with syslinux (or extlinux) on the first partition and a menu to boot each partition; all of them are iso9660 images of different linux distros, - Before dumping every iso image into its partition space on the USB disk I need to remaster it changing something on its initrd to be able to coexist with other linux distros on the

Syslinux boot from a partition on sub stick with GPT label
I recently tried to install several distros on a usb stick, with the peculiarity of creating in it a GPT label rather than the usual dos label. Installed Grub2 using the parted bios_grub flag on a partition, I proceeded to copy several distros on the remaining partitions. Grub2 worked fine, chainloading syslinux on each of the partitions. Or rather it worked all fine until I reached the fifth

Is it possible to chainload isolinux.bin file from syslinux
I have a USB disk with syslinux files installed in /boot/syslinux, and the bootloader is installed into MBR or VBR I then extracted a *.iso file which uses syslinux as the bootloader, into root dir of the disk. The iso file contains a rescue OS or an OS installer. Now I got the directory /isolinux with files isolinux.bin and isolinux.cfg in this folder I can now boot into syslinux, but *what to

Compile syslinux64.exe on ubuntu
Hello, I wanted to recompile syslinux64.exe (windows 64bit binary) on ubuntu. The default ./find-mingw64.sh script failed to locate mingw64 on ubuntu, even after root at htpc:~# apt-get install gcc-mingw-w64 So I had to patch the script to let it find mingw64 on ubuntu as well. Patch is below, please apply to syslinux sources: --- syslinux-4.05/win64/find-mingw64.sh.orig 2012-08-28

chainloading syslinux from an EFI partition to an ext4
Hi, I am having troubles with chainloading and hopefully someone can provide me with some guidance. Here's what I am trying to do: * the media is a USB key * I have created a GPT on it * I have created an EFI partition, where I have installed the EFI flavor of syslinux, the various .c32 files required for chainloading and the configuration file which tells syslinux what to chainload

without msdos filesystem
If 'msdos' filesystem is not compiled in Kernel (and I don't have the msdos.ko module neither), then syslinux refuses to work. Is it possible to fix syslinux to try more filesystems, not only msdos? Or is it possible to call the mount command somehow without filesystem option at all, so the kernel (or whatever) will decide itself what filesystem to use? Thank you for

Menu system bug - MENU DEFAULT not working
Hello, I'm reporting a bug, see attached syslinux.cfg I'm using submenu entries to emulate checkbox inputs. The idea is simple, there are submenus generated for all possible cases, and each Enter keypress loads appropriate submenu section. The logic of the menu is correct. Just syslinux has some bug. It doesn't set MENU DEFAULT properly for all submenus. If your first Enter keypress

Mixing RAID levels in a pool
Hi, I had a plan to set up a zfs pool with different raid levels but I ran into an issue based on some testing I''ve done in a VM. I have 3x 750 GB hard drives and 2x 320 GB hard drives available, and I want to set up a RAIDZ for the 750 GB and mirror for the 320 GB and add it all to the same pool. I tested detaching a drive and it seems to seriously mess up the entire pool and I

SYSLINUX 3.07-pre1: chainloading fix
I will not push half-finished features into production. I will not push half-finished features into production. I will not push half-finished features into production. I have pushed out syslinux-3.07-pre1; this should have a fix for the chainloading problem. It actually turned out to be multiple problems, some of which makes me believe chain.c32 probably hasn't worked since 2.12 or so.
