Syslinux 3.85 chain.c32 problem solved
Thanks to debugging information from Thomas Mieslinger, I have
root-caused the failure of chain.c32 in Syslinux 3.85. I have put out
Syslinux 3.86-pre1 and Syslinux 4.00-pre33 which fix the problem.
I expect to release a Syslinux 3.86 relatively shortly (ideally in the
next two weeks), with bug fixes only. I would like to figure out if
there are other bug fixes we can get in in reasonable time,

PXELINUX booting delays with dual Ethernet ports
We're using PXELINUX for bootstrapping the network install our Linux cluster
nodes. We just got some new IBM 326m dual-Opteron servers with Broadcom
NetXtreme BCM5780 dual-Gigabit Ethernet ports.
These dual-Ethernet servers work in an annoying way with PXELINUX when we
configure for booting from the local hard disk as the PXE-client downloads
this file from the DHCP/TFTP server:

syslinux hard drive boot problem
I've recently moved from pxegrub to pxelinux (well, syslinux...) for many
benefits. (memory fingerprint, etc)
Its running perfectly, and exactly how I like it, except.
LOCALBOOT 0
DOES NOT actually mount and boot the hard drive. All it seems to be doing
is actually return error to the BIOS, which then boots the next device in
it's list.
This isnt a problem on most systems, but on

SYSLINUX 3.10-pre15
I just picked up 3.10-pre15 and the "PXELINUX corrupts graphic filename
referenced from DISPLAY file" bug is zapped. Yipee! Thanks hpa. And
Arwin too, if that 'xor esi, esi' was the crux.
However, LOCALBOOT -1 and LOCALBOOT 0 don't work the same as they did
for me in 3.07. :-(
3.07:
LOCALBOOT -1 apears to work as I have a hard disk listed in bios boot
order after the

anyone using pxelinux.0 > 3.36 successfully with HP DLXXX G3, G5?
Hello *
this morning I tried to upgrade from pxelinux 3.11 to 3.84 and
discovered that the localboot stuff does not work on HP DL360 G3 and G5.
The latest syslinux Version I found with a working localboot is 3.36.
pxelinux.cfg/default:
default harddisk
prompt 1
label harddisk
localboot 0
implicit 0
timeout 250
This so simple, it should just work, shouldn't it?

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Hello,
Thanks very much for your suggestions.
I have double checked that all .c32 files are from the same version of syslinux. What I don't know - I only put those .c32 files I have in there on the basis of trial and error - is what .c32 files are actually needed for menu.c32 and/or vesamenu.c32. I thought perhaps there might be a .c32 file missing that I needed to put in there (though

PXELINUX 6.03 / vesamenu.c32 hang
Hello,
I'm experiencing an issue where if I use vesamenu.c32 with PXELINUX 6.03 when network booting a virtual machine hosted on VMware ESXi 6.0, it hangs (the version message is printed and then nothing - the VM has to be powered off and back on again).
This happens no matter if I choose the E1000 network interface or the VMXNET3 network interface when creating the VM.
The same problem

Client machine cannot acquire the IP from dhcp server
Hi, syslinux:
I use pxelinux to install Linux from network. Currently, my problem is:
The first time, the client machine can acquire the IP address from
dhcp server but at the second time, the client machine cannot acquire
the IP again.
The only way is to remove the /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases file in
server and restart the dhcpd service. Then the client machine can get
the IP again.

Hi,
I'm facing some problems with pxelinux. I have ingetrated it into WDS

boot disk and NT password editor tools. Is this possible? Currently my
network boot includes WDS, Linux install, Win98 Startup disk and ghost 11.5

PXE floppy, PXELINUX and LOCALBOOT
Hi!
A friend of mine has tried a PXE floppy (build from the new etherboot
5.3.12) to load PXELINUX.0; a menu voice of the pxelinux.cfg use the
LOCALBOOT statement.
Selecting this statement, the PC retry to boot from the floppy... is
this normal?
The user expected that LOCALBOOT would have tried the NEXT boot device
(ie CDROM or HD), not the FIRST boot device (the floppy)...

[PATCH][git-pull] doc/syslinux.txt: CONFIG and LOCALBOOT
git://git.zytor.com/users/genec/syslinux.git
Branch doc-syslinux-for-hpa
Expand upon the explanation of the usage of CONFIG (including a new
directory). Edit LOCALBOOT to include the fact that all variants
understand LOCALBOOT type -1. Compact the PXELINUX section to one
paragraph.

localboot / pxe
Good day,
i would like to be able to keep pxe loaded after localboot -1 . Localboot
-1 should try to boot 'next device' from the order
configured by bios. Of course 'next device' can be an additional nic. In
this case booting from second nic fails because !PXE is not found.
Please give me a hint where to patch sources to keep pxe loaded. It is
possible anyway? Thanks very much .

dual disk netboot approach
Hello,
My challenge is to run Linux on a computer
where I don't dare to touch the Microsoft Windows harddisk.
Fifthteen years ago would be trick to attach a second harddisk to the
computer and boot from floppy disk. In 2011 is the idea to attach a
second disk and netboot it.
One approach is to TFTP the kernel and append 'root=/dev/sdb1'
This E-mail is however to seek advice for

Localboot option in syslinux and extlinux
I just tried to boot extlinux off of /dev/sdb and use the option localboot 0x80. I was hoping to see syslinux for the second time as the system loaded the master boot rec from /dev/sda.
Why is this option only in pxelinux and isolinux?

Chain loading hard disk with gPXELinux
Hello syslinux mailing list,
I've been working on a kind of system administration tool (
http://twyna.sourceforge.net/) with a colleague of mine for our Computer
Science Bachelor degree internship. I hope I'm saying that right :)
We use gPXELinux to boot over a web service and it's all working
marvellously, except for the localboot bug. Until now we've used chain.c32

memdisk: DOS as a PreOS
Hello!
Is it possible to load a virtual DOS Floppy with memdisk to do a few
things (e.g. scan for viruses, copy a hard disk image from the network
to the local disk) and continue booting from the local hard disk without
a reboot?
Cheers

which should I use: TIMEOUT, ONTIMEOUT, or ONERROR ?
Hi. I'm trying to get around the problem of an overloaded tftp server
causing a pxelinux client hanging at the boot: prompt, waiting for input
(no one will input anything to it). The server is OK enough to give the
pxebootloader but not the config file, as in this thread:
http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2004-June/003662.html
So, in that case, I guess setting TIMEOUT to some
