SYSLINUX 3.36-pre6 (release candidate)
I have, hopefully, found and fixed the issue with non-kernel binaries
that appeared in 3.35. As a result, I have pushed out 3.36-pre6 and am
classifying it as a release candidate. Please try it out, especially if
you have had problems with 3.35.

syslinux-3.36 and 3.35 compilation broke /dev/null
I have tested with 3.31 (does not broke /dev/null) and 3.35/3.36 that broke
/dev/null
I verify that /dev/null exist, then compile one of the target available on
top Makefile and /dev/null no more exist.
Example

root:/usr/src/syslinux-3.36# make .depend
Makefile:274: .depend: No such file or directory
rm -f .depend

syslinux-3.36-pre8 feedback
Tested floppy boot on two machines (one PII 350, one 486DX4)
Floppy boot with syslinux is very very slow, more than 18 mn to boot a linux
kernel from floppy on the 2 machines.
Tested with 3 different disquettes that were know to work, boot is reached
after this very long time.
Noise from floppy head make think floppy wait approximatly one minute
between each read.
No problem with pxe boot with

memdisk from 3.36 crashing on Dell PowerEdge 1955
Hello list,
I had to boot a Dell Diagnostic Disk today, and tried doing this via
memdisk - which was when I noticed memdisk isn't working for me at all,
neither from pxelinux nor syslinux.
After trying around with 'raw', 'bigraw' and the like I noticed it
doesn't even do anything when just using:
LABEL diag
KERNEL memdisk
.. when I try that:
boot: diag

Cisco 7970 + New Firmware (8.2)
Hi All,
Found out Cisco has some newer firmware available for the 7970 series
of phones. New sip images are at version level 8.2 (instead of
8.0.2,8.0.3,8.0.4), posted Dec 10, 2006. This major jump in version
numbers has fixed a few bugs (time zone not updating properly), but
hasn't figured what some would consider to be showstoppers
(registration not fully working, and mwi still not

Syslinux: Broken file reading for fat16 with 3.35+?
Hello,
I noticed after upgrading from 3.20, I haven't been able to get
syslinux to boot properly with menu.c32 or mboot.c32 from a USB key. I
get an error saying invalid kernel when its trying to load menu.c32 or
mboot.c32 (or any other kernel for that matter). I tried 3.35 and
3.36-pre5. Same exact behaviour.
I'm using the following to compile:
gcc version 3.2.3 20030502 (Red Hat Linux

floppy problems after DOS booting with dos.bss and syslinux 3.xx
Hello,
I'm Rene living in Germany.
I have a problem when I use syslinux versions greater
than 3.xx for booting DOS (over dos.bss) and DSL-linux
from a hard disk. (I've tried version 3.11 and the
newest 3.36). The problem occurred after booting DOS -
I can not access to the ordinary 3.5'-floppy drive
(e.g. the command "dir a:" fails after a while). DOS

extlinux - Failed to load ldlinux.c32
Hello there
I built development version of syslinux from git 6.04-pre3-3-(sometag)
and I am trying to boot a slackware-current system with it. I do not
use a separated partition for `/boot`. It's just `/dev/sda1` here for
`/` and `/boot` is just a folder. I simply use `mbr.bin` against a DOS
partition table and the first partition having the bootable flag.
With this layout, the only

PXELinux 3.11 vs 3.36
Hi,
Apologies in advance if this is rather long winded ...
I have a Windows 2000 DHCP/FTP/TFTP server, serving up a
linux-based diags package using PXELinux. Everything is
working fine, just like I'd expect.
I also have some WinImage images of DOS floppy disks that
I'd also like to serve via PXE. So I made up some simple
menus using menu.c32 to serve both the floppy image and the

Request for enlightenment..
I figure I'm probably trying to do something stupid, but here goes.
I'm trying to boot a hard disk image (with one 420MB partition, lilo in
the MBR) containing debian etch (kernel 2.6.18) using memdisk (onto a
dell 2950 with 8G of ram).
Lilo (22.6.1) fails on memdisk 3.35, 3.36, 3.50, 3.51, and 3.52-pre,
with L 99 99 99 99 et al, but works on 2.x, 3.00 and 3.31.
However, the kernel

anyone using pxelinux.0 > 3.36 successfully with HP DLXXX G3, G5?
Hello *
this morning I tried to upgrade from pxelinux 3.11 to 3.84 and
discovered that the localboot stuff does not work on HP DL360 G3 and G5.
The latest syslinux Version I found with a working localboot is 3.36.
pxelinux.cfg/default:
default harddisk
prompt 1
label harddisk
localboot 0
implicit 0
timeout 250
This so simple, it should just work, shouldn't it?

disk image creation, step by step
Hi,
I am aware that it is impossible to netboot ISO files through
pxelinux/memdisk
and that there are multiple reasons for not even attempting it (like the
operating system which will try to access a physical optical drive
through its
own drivers anyway, BIOS issues etc.).
When people ask questions regarding ISO support in pxelinux/memdisk, they're
mostly told to convert the ISO into a

SYSLINUX 3.32-pre4 released: MEMDISK floppy drive workaround
Hi all,
I have pushed out a SYSLINUX 3.32-pre4. This version attempts to work
around the "missing floppy drive" issue.
If you have systems on which MEMDISK doesn't work without a floppy
drive, I would appreciate it if you would test this out.

Bug#295560: logcheck: Please include filename when reporting "invalid regular expression"
Package: logcheck
Version: 1.2.34
Severity: wishlist
I have a couple of home-made logcheck ignore files, and happened to
have one unescaped (and unmatched) `(' in one of the filter
lines. Because of this, cron sent a mail with the body "grep: Invalid
regular expression" - the subject is the command in the "2 * * * *"
line in /etc/cron.d/logcheck, of course.

Parsing question, partly comma separated partly underscore separated string
Dear R-list,
I have a partly comma separated partly underscore separated string that I am trying to parse into R.
Furthermore I have a bunch of them, and they are quite long. I have now spent most of my Sunday trying to figure this out and thought I would try the list to see if someone here would be able to get me started.
My data structure looks like this,

SYSLINUX 3.36-pre4: new MBR
I have just pushed out SYSLINUX 3.36-pre4; the main difference is a
rewritten MBR which can boot from logical partitions. I plan to
eventually submit that to be added into (s)fdisk in util-linux.

syslinux-3.36 nopie patch
I made a patch that depending of gcc flavor add -no-pie or -nopie on
libutil and dos Makefile.
This fix fatal error like this
