kickstart from harddisk to harddisk?
Please help with a problem that is slowly driving me nuts :-/ *Quick problem* Can I kickstart an install by reading all the files from a single partition on the system and installing onto all the spare space on the same drive? I am using `harddrive --partition=sda1 --dir=/` but it doesn't seem to work!! *Longer version* I have a server that has no CD-ROM and that I would like to install a

EXTLINUX
I am trying to boot a ramdisk on a usb stick in read-only mode using extlinux. When the system boots all I am getting is a blinking cursor. The stick booted with lilo, but I had some issues with lilo so I am trying extlinux. 1) I partitioned the stick as a linux partition, formated it ext2, and mounted /dev/sda1 on /mnt/flash. 2) I am running extlinux 3.86. 3) excuted "extlinux -i

isolinux, extlinux and accented characters
Hello, First of all, thanks very much for this piece of software, it's working like a charm. I'm using it to boot a Linux distro I'm working on. What I want to deal with is the display of accented characters in ISOLINUX. First, I set EXTLINUX up to boot an ext2-formatted USB stick. No problem so far. I wrote a config file ordering to load a font (lat-9w) to display french

Locally attached disk is seen, 40 gig PATA in USB enclosure is not.
Hi Folks, When I boot ISOLinux, the locally attached disk is visible but the PATA 40 Gig in a USB attached enclosure is not. The locally attached disk has no bearing on what I am doing and to avoid confusion will not be mentioned again. Everything is happening on the 40 Gig. Let me explain. The goal is: Copy an installation iso to the disk, boot the disk and install it on that disk. I have

extlinux issue
Trying again since the mailing list says I have a 'suspiscous header'. I have been told to get linux running on two HP DL360G4p machines (ancient rackmount xeon stuff). Unfortunately, while isolinux boots fine from CDROM, and extlinux can boot a USB stick, I cannot get extlinux to boot from the CCISS hard disks (two disks in hardware raid 1 configuration). I searched on google a lot,

Peter Anvin Could not find kernel image: linux boot: ???????????????????????????????? I've searched the archives and it would appear that extlinux can't find the extlinux.conf file.... Chainload isohybrid image from extlinux
Hi, I'm trying to boot Debian-Installer image from extlinux with chain.c32; i.e.: - I'm doing this from a loopback device (loop0) which later will be dumped to an USB stick. - GPT disklabel. - Partition 15 (loop0p15) contains extlinux info, and partition 12 contains Debian multi-arch installer image *dumped*[1], and its corresponding menu entry for extlinux is something like: LABEL

EXTLINUX: Reading the extlinux.conf but can't find Kernel
Hi Folks, OK - I'm not entirely new to Linux but I'm certainly not great on the boot process. What I'm trying to achieve is to boot from an external USB HDD (not flash drive) using EXTLINUX. I've run an installation against the disk using a VM. The disk was partitioned as follows: /dev/sda1 = /boot (bootable) /dev/sda2 =/swap /dev/sda3=/ (i.e. root) /dev/sda4=/dos sda1 and 3

extlinux vs. HP DL360 G4p

I searched on google a lot, and found (very old, many years ago) messages saying these

extlinux and install script
Hi, I'm new the syslinux and found some bug. For example, when I install a boot file system into /mnt/boot during usb booted system, the extlinux reports the following error. /usr/bin/extlinux -i /mnt/boot /mnt/boot is device proc /usr/bin/extlinux: cannot open device proc But /mnt/boot is mounted on /dev/sda1 and ext3 file system. I read the source code and found the following code in

boot bootcd (isolinux) copied on the hard disk
Hi, I try to boot some bootcd copy on the hard drive. I read (an try) that it's impossible to boot a cdrom .ISO image . ok So now I "unzip" the .iso into a folder (not a partition ! Because I have lot of .iso), and convert the entry from the isolinux.cfg to a valid grub entry (put in my menu.lst). The iso come from a bootable cd with isolinux. I will make a script for the

installing syslinux on a fresh system (SATA)
Hi I understand you (mostly). 0) How do i "install the MBR code as well and to activate your partition." 1) "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt" -->> successfully completed. 2) "mkdir /mnt/extlinux" -->> successfully completed. 3) "extlinux --install /mnt/extlinux" -->> does not work. Funny, but it it seems that there is no such thing as

Stumped by extlinux After OS Upgrade
Hello fellow syslinux/extlinux users! Please forgive the long post, but I believe my problem warrants the background info to understand the issue. I've developed a specialized spin of Fedora that runs off CompactFlash. The spin is actually produced by the livecd-tools package and is then transferred to the CF card -- which has been formatted with ext3 -- using livecd-tools'
