memdisk from 3.36 crashing on Dell PowerEdge 1955
Hello list, I had to boot a Dell Diagnostic Disk today, and tried doing this via memdisk - which was when I noticed memdisk isn't working for me at all, neither from pxelinux nor syslinux. After trying around with 'raw', 'bigraw' and the like I noticed it doesn't even do anything when just using: LABEL diag KERNEL memdisk .. when I try that: boot: diag nothing

Fallback to second menu entry, ONERROR looping forever
Hello I want to fallback to a second boot entry, if the kernel is missing for the first entry. So I through I could use ONERROR, but syslinux just continue to try starting the first entry. Am I doing something wrong? or can't this be done with syslinux? default menu.c32 prompt 0 MENU HIDDEN MENU AUTOBOOT TIMEOUT 2 ONERROR live-generic label grub ??? menu label ^Grub ??? menu default

syslinux et al misbehave severely when BOOT_IMAGE= is present on append-line already
Hello! SSIA - when syslinux sees 'BOOT_IMAGE=' on the append line, something seems to go terribly wrong (didn't investigate in detail). You don't even get to see a boot-prompt, even if you try to force it. pxelinux shows the same problem, so I figure it's something generic in the config parser ... Best regards, Andreas P.S: and thanks for this software ;) -- "The

tftp-hpa standalone in foreground
Hello, I would like to use in.tftpd in standalone mode, but without having it forking off in the background (I'm using inittab) .. can you add a foreground-option? Thanks in advance! Fallback to second menu entry, ONERROR looping Syslinux Digest, Vol 174, Issue 3
Hi! I think thats the whole point with ONERROR. We use it in PXELINUX with a reload label. So we can reload pxelinux (ONERROR) if someone types something wrong ?intall? instead of ?install?. ? which should I use: TIMEOUT, ONTIMEOUT, or ONERROR ?
Hi. I'm trying to get around the problem of an overloaded tftp server causing a pxelinux client hanging at the boot: prompt, waiting for input (no one will input anything to it). The server is OK enough to give the pxebootloader but not the config file, as in this thread: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2004-June/003662.html So, in that case, I guess setting TIMEOUT to some

SYSLINUX 3.35-pre5 released -- release candidate
Hi all, I have released SYSLINUX 3.35-pre5 to the Testing directory; this is a release candidate and I intend to release this as 3.35 early next week unless I hear of any showstopper bugs, so please, pretty please, try it out. http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/ kernel.org has been overloaded lately, so it might take a while to show up. suggestions for global APPEND consistency
Hello Syslinux Team, I have some suggestions / requests regarding global APPEND commands. These would make the behavior more consistent and more useful for practical cases. 1_ Add some functionality equivalent to "APPEND -" to the command prompt. 2_ Activate the functionality of ONERROR from [vesa]menu.c32 too. Currently, ONERROR only works from the command prompt. 3_ Add a new

Bug/limitation: allowoptions (for label), implicit (for automated)
Hello, At the boot prompt ALLOWOPTIONS 0 is only applied to implicit kernels and not to labels. For configuration which want to allow selection, but prevent customization of the kernel command line, this behaviour is bad. Also the IMPLICIT 0 is applied to both the boot prompt and configuration setting (like DEFAULT); but one could argue that only the command supplied at the prompt make sense to

ext3 with quota under heavy load.
Hello list, I have a problem with an NFS server for my network. It has ran kernels 2.4.18-ac4 - 2.4.21-ac1, all with problems. The -ac patches are used to provide the new style quota support. The system seems to have gotten even less stable with the new kernel versions. This morning around 5 am, I got a page the system was unresponding to NFS requests. I ssh'd in, and found the loadavg

newbie question: pxelinux.cfg/default question
Hello all, I understand that during PXE boot, it goes into the pxelinux.cfg and it states: 1. "it will search for the config file using its own IP address in upper case hexadecimal, e.g. 192.0.2.91 -> C000025B (you can use the included progam "gethostip" to compute the hexadecimal IP address for any host.) If that file is not found, it will remove one hex digit and try

[GIT PULL] elflink fixes
Peter, Paulo reported some problems with his config files under ISOLINUX and PXELINUX - basically TIMEOUT and TOTALTIMEOUT were broken. The patches I've pushed to the elflink branch fix this and also fix parsing of the ALLOWOPTIONS config directive. The following changes since commit d5e02fb16a11bfdbce1e90a39e6cb5f2ad925389: get_key: Valid key values are positive (2012-04-17 11:25:53

ALLOWOPTIONS directive
I have some questions about "ALLOWOPTIONS 0". [quote] ALLOWOPTIONS flag_val If flag_val is 0, the user is not allowed to specify any arguments on the kernel command line. The only options recognized are those specified in an APPEND) statement. The default is 1. rsync & SSL 'for real'
Dear All, I've been using rsync with stunnel with success for a while now, but I'm not necessarily satisfied with it, i.e. having an extra layer externally and all, no authentication against SSL-subjects .. I had a look at the patch included with the source, and it doesn't quite address everything related to SSL, i.e. forcing SSL, verify options etc. are all missing - besides,

Interest in NTFS
I have gotten a couple of probes about NTFS support for Syslinux, and I would like to gauge how serious it is. I'm considering using it as a pilot project for writing Syslinux filesystem modules in C. However, an installer, or more realistically two (one for Win32, one for Linux) have to be written, so it's still a real time commitment. -hpa

Linux kernel + initrd in one file
Hello, I know this might be slightly off-topic, but I know at least hpa has an intimate knowledge of the linux boot process - and I would want to use it with syslinux/pxelinux, so I figure it might not hurt too much to ask: Is it possible to embedd the initrd with the linux kernel in a way similiar to how it works on some embedded systems? There, you provide an object file with the filesystem,

extlinux support for root= ext2 label and/or uuid
Is it possible to specify the root device in extlinux.conf by an ext2 label or uuid? How difficult is it to add this support if it is not there? I am in a situation where this is needed and my fstab is configured appropriately, but extlinux.conf still needs to be manually updated when the root drive changes to a different scsi device (due to the number of drives on the bus and the order of the
