memdisk : booting OpenBSD and NetBSD
hi there.
I'm trying to boot several OSes floppy images from a cdrom via memdisk.
Actually, Linux and FreeBSD boots fine, but, while i'm using the same method,
I couldn't get into booting netbsd nor openbsd.
The boot process seems to hang up, in those two cases, when the second stage
native bootloader try to load the kernel (i'm not absolutely sure about this).
The native first

pxe + memdisk ..??
Hello ALL,
I've got a diskless server working (under Gentoo), booting on it works. (a linux session start with no problem.)
My Big problem, is to get Memdisk to boot with PXE. In fact memdisk is loaded, but it cannot find the img file. I've tried a lot of thing, but nothing works...
tftp use : /diskless
the config file for PXE in then in : /diskless/pxelinux.cfg/

tftp-hpa loads but stalls
Hello,
I am attempting pxelinux via dhcpd/tftpd. If I use the system
default tftpd daemon, then pxelinux loads but then complains about
the tsize option.
I've downloaded tftp-hpa-0.34, compiled and installed. I also
edited inetd.conf according to README.security and then reloaded inetd.
/tftpboot directory and all files and directories have nobody:nobody

Remote HD boot?
I have been working with SYSLINUX/PXELINUX Mostly v.2.x recently v3.0 &v3.1 to remote-boot IBM PC's off of 1.44Floppy Images with great success. I have searched through several distributions and the SYSLINUX package seems to be by far the easiest to work with.. (thanks)
My question would be: Is it possible to boot a diskless client PC with Complete hard disk images? or even better hard

pxelinux
Hello H. Peter,
we use pxelinux to start linux on desktop pcs. Now we have a problem
with the interaction of dhcp. If the ip address is not fix, we cannot
use the ip address as name for the configfile. A better solution would
be, first to check for the mac and then for the ip address.
Is it possible?
TIA,
Tobias

MEMDISK location in memory
Hi all,
I am new to Syslinux and Memdisk. I setup a PXE boot server that services an image file via memdisk. This works very well.
However, I am trying to figure out as to where memdisk the image puts in memory? On the wiki page it says: "MEMDISK simulates a disk by claiming a chunk of high memory for the disk and a (very small - 2K typical) chunk of low (DOS) memory for the driver itself,

Re: pxegrub + memdisk + dos + undi
Hi Aaron,
i know it is not an interactive menu - but in my 'config' file i call
for a textfile to be displayed : DISPLAY menu.txt
that contains all my labels. See the first part of my 'config' :
label 0
LOCALBOOT 0
label 1
KERNEL memdisk/memdisk
APPEND initrd=images/w2k/unatt.ima
label 2
KERNEL memdisk/memdisk

tftp pxe and dos
So I have a few questions. I have already made the base part of making a
windows TFTPD running with memedisk. So that part works, but what I was
wondering, if there is a way to some how add an option to the config file.
What I have is something like this:
label winstall
kernel unattended/memdisk
append initrd=unattended/winstall.imz
That all works great, However, for each image, I have

No dos compatibility mode?
Hi,
I managed to boot diskless windows 98 clients using memdisk with etherboot and PXE
hdd images. Unfortunately, I need my clients to run games and many
refuse to work properly when windows is in do compatibility mode(e.g..
fifa 2005 and daemon tools for mounting cd images). Is there a way to
to "make" windows 98 not use the compatibility mode ? I even searched
for a commercial

[CentOS 5] tftp-server, unable to create new files (even with "-c" option)
Hi all,
I'm trying to setup a TFTP server to serve as repository for the
config of all my Cisco network devices.
As per the the tftpd man, I've added the "-c" option into the /etc/
xinetd.d/tftp (as follows) but I still cannot get write access
(unless the file is already present).
[root at chl1 ~]# cd /etc/xinetd.d
[root at chl1 xinetd.d]# cat tftp

Fetching TFTP server from dos/memlinux via pxelinux?
I am using pxelinux to boot a dos image using memdisk.
Now what I'd like to do is connect via tftp and fetch an additional
file from DOS.
I am using the 'keeppxe' memdisk option; can I access the pxe stack from DOS,
and retrieve the TFTP server address?
I am using MS-DOS currently, and syslinux-1.76.

TFTP - Good or Bad?
Hi Guys/Gals -
I don't post here often but I read with interest all the postings. - I've
been on a lot of mailing lists, but this one is by far the most interesting.
I've been doing a lot of work with 'tftp' loading Cisco 79xx phones with
firmware, configs. for asterisk, etc.
And I see where a lot of folks have trouble with 'tftp', use alternate port

pxelinux limits on imagefile for tftp transfer?
Hello specialists
In setting up a diskless X-Terminal I got stuck with the transfer of the
ramdisk from the
server to the target.
With a ramdisk image size of about 60 Mb things go well, the file gets
transfered completely and Linux boots perfectly.
With a ramdisk image size of about 104 Mb the tftp transfer of the
kernel succeds but
the transfer of the ramdisk image fails. As tftp daemon I

unload memdisk+FreeDOS => local boot
Sensei H. Peter Anvin,
I have successfully modified/enhanced memdisk so that one can chainload a
local operating system after running diskless FreeDOS.
I would like your advice regarding the appropriate interface for invoking
this functionality.
In addition, I would like to know what steps to take so that you feel
comfortable considering including this in the standard syslinux
distribution.

PXELINUX with all-Windows DHCP/TFTP servers?
Hello...
I have PXELINUX working nicely on FreeBSD, but I have exactly zero
experience with Windows Server.
What I would like to do is:
Have PXE client connect to Windows DHCP server to get value "filename
pxelinux.0"
Have PXE client connect to Windows TFTP server to download pxelinux.0,
display, pxelinux.cfg/default, memdisk, and appropriate initrd files (really
