"pre-OS"
Ok, syslinux is what it is, and I love the way it just works. I looked up linuxBios and found what I was looking for. A project in 2000 called "LOBOS (Linux OS Boots Linux OS): Booting a Kernel in 32-bit Mode? It looks like this would do what I need, but I can't find any working code. I like the Idea of booting a simple fail safe system and restarting a production kernel. Yes,

syslinux: localboot error
Hello all, I'm booting a USB stick (DOS formatted, one 1GB partition) and I'd like to offer the choice of either continue booting from the USB stick, or booting from the installed hard disk (Linux ext3). I've asked this question here previously and Quinn replied saying I should use the 'localboot -1' option which would pass boot to the next device. And so I did. The BIOS

Still fighting localboot on EFI - looping
I'm still trying fruitlessly to get some sort of local disk boot from syslinux EFI to work... using the 6.03 modules. Tried various combinations of configurations on Gene's test binaries. For reference this is on different models of HP Proliant Gen-9 systems with UEFI. Firmware as up to date as it comes. The UEFI boot order has the hard drives and OS ESPs before the PXE interfaces

extlinux to boot linux from the second drive
Hi! Can extlinux boot Linux kernel from the second drive? I want to leave Windows XP on the first IDE drive and put Linux to the first partition (ext2/ext3) on the second IDE drive. I am allowed to change MBR on the first drive. Will the following configuration work? /dev/hda1 - Windows /dev/hdb1 - Linux root (/, /boot, ...) /dev/hda - extlinux in MBR /boot/vmlinuz extlinux /boot

dual disk netboot approach
Hello, My challenge is to run Linux on a computer where I don't dare to touch the Microsoft Windows harddisk. Fifthteen years ago would be trick to attach a second harddisk to the computer and boot from floppy disk. In 2011 is the idea to attach a second disk and netboot it. One approach is to TFTP the kernel and append 'root=/dev/sdb1' This E-mail is however to seek advice for

extlinux issue
Trying again since the mailing list says I have a 'suspiscous header'. I have been told to get linux running on two HP DL360G4p machines (ancient rackmount xeon stuff). Unfortunately, while isolinux boots fine from CDROM, and extlinux can boot a USB stick, I cannot get extlinux to boot from the CCISS hard disks (two disks in hardware raid 1 configuration). I searched on google a lot,

LOCALBOOT

This is my syslinux set up LABEL start localboot 0x80 and when I type "start" at the boot prompt this is what I get back "Could not find kernel image: start" Is

extlinux >= 5.01 menu.c32 timeout doesn't work
Hi, I am using qemu for testing new versions of syslinux before installing on an embedded computer. Everything works fine under qemu (1.5.0), so I updated extlinux from 4.06 to 5.11-pre3 on the computer. I found that the autostart's timeout does not work. The timeout value is correct but nothing happens. It worked well with extlinux 4.06... I tried with extlinux 5.01, 5.10, 5.11-pre3 and

crash in extlinux/main
Hi, I found a bug in extlinux/main.c. Writing a bootloader on a file mounted via /dev/mapper in Lunix it crashed on me with a segment fault. The bug is here: if (!ioctl(devfd, HDIO_GETGEO, &geo)) { Since we are already called with geo as a pointer the & is wrong as the pointer itself will be overwritten. This works: int get_geometry(int devfd, uint64_t totalbytes, struct
