[patch] PXE-On-A-Disk: etherboot2ethersel.pl patched for etherboot-5.4.3+dfgs
PXE-On-A-Disk from (ftp://ftp.scyld.com/private/jlehan/pxe-on-a-disk.html) was posted on syslinux mailing list: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2005-December/006222.html. It is being mentioned by syslinux wiki, or some other documentation of syslinux that I currently can't find. I tried etherboot2ethersel.pl from PXE-On-A-Disk (ftp://ftp.scyld.com/private/jlehan/pxe-on-a-disk.html)

My approach is more minimalistic: etherboot have already the capabilities to

PXE-on-a-disk Intel EM64T reboot
Hello! I have been successful using SYSLINUX and Etherboot to create a generic "PXE-on-a-disk" package, a floppy image and CD image that support as many Ethernet cards as possible. These have support for all of Etherboot's modules that support real PCI cards: about 25-or-so drivers and 250-or-so cards. I've built Etherboot ZLILO images, one for each driver, set up to boot

What do you which you new about pxelinux?
Hi All, I am going to be presenting a 45 minute session at Linux World in April on how to use PXELinux to provision linux systems, among other things. This probably isn't of value to most on the list, as it is geared towards giving new users a jumpstart on what's needed so that they can get up and going quickly along with some practical suggestions and tips. I'll be

[PATCH] Update diag/mbr instruction to match the current filename.
From: Jean-Christian de Rivaz <jc at eclis.ch> I suspect that some instructions about how to use the diag/mbr was not updated when the source file was renamed to handoff.S. Here is a simple proposition to fix that. Jean-Christian de Rivaz --- diag/mbr/README | 4 ++-- diag/mbr/handoff.S | 4 ++-- 2 files changed, 4 insertions(+), 4 deletions(-) diff --git a/diag/mbr/README

chainloading syslinux problem
Hi! I have bootable (USB flash) disk, that _appears_ to be using syslinux. (the word syslinux is in the PBR, in the hexdump). How can I chainload it? The payload seems to be a file that I tried load with COMBOOT, COM32 etc, but nothing works (they report that the file is not in proper format, wrong magic number or simply crash). How to proceed? is there a 100% way to confirm that it is really

"pre-OS"
Ok, syslinux is what it is, and I love the way it just works. I looked up linuxBios and found what I was looking for. A project in 2000 called "LOBOS (Linux OS Boots Linux OS): Booting a Kernel in 32-bit Mode? It looks like this would do what I need, but I can't find any working code. I like the Idea of booting a simple fail safe system and restarting a production kernel. Yes,

a plead to package developers regarding GCC
Dear DevelopeRs, I'd like to ask those who develop R packages with compiled code to please try avoiding dependency on GCC (gcc/g77/gfortran/g++) specific features in the code, for the simple reason that there are non-GCC compilers out there that might choke on such features. I found this out back when I was trying to build R-2.3.0-to-be on our dual Opteron based Scyld cluster. Because the

USB question
The BIOS on my laptop does not support booting from USB. I would like to be able to have my Windows XP on a partition on a USB disk drive and be able to run from the USB disk using perhaps a CD or floppy to bootstrap the system. My questions: 1). Is there a way to use syslinux and friends to do this? 2). If not, is there some other boot loader that may work? 3). Is there any hope at all?

I'm still learning how to program with R and I was hoping someone could take the time to show me how I can rewrite this code? Bootable Floppy w/ Networking & Shell?
I realize this is probably the wrong list but since some of the principals this list deals with are similar in nature I figured it could't hurt. What I am looking to do: Provide a solution to either boot from a floppy disk, establish a network connection, give user the ability to run utilities such as fdisk and dd. as well as provide the same solution as a PXE bootable image. Nginx Sock And Rails Envinroment Error
Hi There, Im running an amazon instance with nginx proxying to a unicorn sock. For some reason, even though i specify the production environment, when being visited by nginx, the site shows errors in development form. Interestingly, when running on a port rather than a sock, if i visit that port, the errors are rendered as normal with a 500 page, the same port, throught nginx, shows errors

how do I tell configure where to find Java?
Dear R-help, I'm trying to build R-2.4.0 on our Opteron-based Scyld cluster. The system has gcj (the GNU Java compiler, part of GCC) stuff in /usr/bin. When I installed jdk 1.5.08, the install script placed it in /usr/java (I didn't have a choice, as the script didn't offer that option). Now when I run configure in R-2.4.0, it finds gcj, which is not what I want to use. Is there a

Problem with openssh-4.0p1 and tcp wrappers on RH7.2(Scyld)
I have tried to update openssh-3.1p1 of our system that uses RH7.2 (Scyld). I is pretty much a standard Redhat 7.2 install with openssl-0.9.6b, zlib-1.1.4 etc. I have gotten openssh to work after some initial issues, but I still have not been able to get openssh/sshd to work with tcp-wrappers. I have in hosts.deny ALL: ALL: and in hosts.allow ALL: localhost, 127.0.0.1, 192.168.1. and still I

make check failed on linux-amd64 using PGI compilers
Dear R-help, I am trying to build R-2.2.0-patched (2005-11-07 r36217) on the head node of a Scyld cluster (dual Opteron 250s) using PGI compilers (v6.0). I used the flags suggested by Jennifer Lai on R-devel (taken from R-admin, except that I had to add -L/usr/X11R6/lib64 to LDFLAGS). The build went fine, but make check-all failed when running tests/Examples/graphics-Ex.R, at: > plot(1:2,

Patch for easier dynamic SAD PBR
Yesterday I posted a patch on the netdev list but it occurred to me that folks here might have more to say about the proposed feature (and a stake in it since it would add syntax to iproute) http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg49450.html Comments very welcome.

booting dell diagnostic hd image with isolinux
Dell has an ISO image (Dell version 5061A0, A5061) available here http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?releaseid=R102625&fileid=132637 which contains an ISO with an hard disk image and no-emulation boot. I've estracted the hard disk image (size=2048000) and I'd like to boot it with isolinux. I tried kernel memdisk append initrd=dell5061.img The Dell/Dos os

dynamic PBR, actions, docs and getting it all straight
Hi, Fair warning this may be a bit rambling, and is definitely a bit long. I am trying to prototype a system for doing dynamic policy-based routing (source address dependent based on reverse routes from BGP or other dynamic routing protocols.) We need to do this due to a cacophony of factors I won''t get into. To do so the general plan is to store dynamic routes in their own table,

problem building R-patched on x86-64 with PGI 6.1
Dear R-devel, [I'm not sure if this is appropriate for R-devel. If not, I'm more than happy to move it to R-help.] As those of you who saw my post on R-help know, I've been trying to build R-patched on a dual Opteron box running Scyld Beowulf, using the PGI 6.1 compilers. The build went fine, but I couldn't get it to pass make check-all. Jennifer Lai, who reported success with
