Localboot option in syslinux and extlinux
I just tried to boot extlinux off of /dev/sdb and use the option localboot 0x80. I was hoping to see syslinux for the second time as the system loaded the master boot rec from /dev/sda.
Why is this option only in pxelinux and isolinux?

boot once option
Can someone address the boot once option. Is it to hard for syslinux to write a flag file to file system or the blank space after the mbr?
.conf
bootonce Lable /boot/flagfile
or
.conf
bootonce Lable1 /boot/flagfileLable1
bootonce Lable2 /boot/flagFileLable2
bootonce Lable2 /boot/flagFileLable2
skip the default option if the flag file is 0 size.

Serial with syslinux
The Startech.com pci2s550 can not be remapped to ports 1-4 before the system boots. The company is not supporting linux serial ports as consoles 0-3 , thank you starTech.com.

scope creep "serial console usb"
Can extlinux / syslinux use a usb port for the console?
Hi all,
I just picked up a energy efficient server with built in 3 hour ups, toshiba Laptop.
I've been using serial consoles for monitoring and controlling the boot process, but this laptop has only usb ports. Can Extlinux use ttyUSB0 for the console?
I love the extlinux for booting usb devices. Thank you for the hard work,

"pre-OS"
Ok, syslinux is what it is, and I love the way it just works.
I looked up linuxBios and found what I was looking for.
A project in 2000 called "LOBOS (Linux OS Boots Linux OS): Booting a Kernel in 32-bit Mode?
It looks like this would do what I need, but I can't find any working code.
I like the Idea of booting a simple fail safe system and restarting a production kernel. Yes,

I'd like to eventually support network console, at least in pxelinux.

IPMI serial over lan disconnects seem to trigger extlinux reboots
Hi,
I hope somebody can help me with this problem. I don't know whether
it's a problem with my configuration or a bug or feature in extlinux.
I am using an IPMI 2.0 serial-over-lan console to connect to a system
with an Intel S3200SHL motherboard. The first line of my extlinux.conf
file looks like this:
serial 0 57600 0x003
I am using ipmitool to access the console, like so:

mini atx and asterisk (EPIA and the like)
Hi, haven't found anything in google's, i wonder if there is a
comparative page of what to expect from running * on motherboards like
the EPIA and similar ones.
Since i have not used *ever* such kind of mini atx form factor boards,
I have no clue about their performance.

extlinux to boot linux from the second drive
Hi!
Can extlinux boot Linux kernel from the second drive? I want to leave
Windows XP on the first IDE drive and put Linux to the first partition
(ext2/ext3) on the second IDE drive. I am allowed to change MBR on the
first drive. Will the following configuration work?
/dev/hda1 - Windows
/dev/hdb1 - Linux root (/, /boot, ...)
/dev/hda - extlinux in MBR
/boot/vmlinuz

Powerful enough to run a small asterisk server though not sure if the
drop down in size from a mini-atx or a micro-atx but I'm sure someone
will try.

extlinux "boot failed" on older (pentium 3) motherboards
I have 3 older pentium-3 systems (asus cubx, asus cusl2-c) that give a
"boot failed" message when trying to boot with extlinux on a flash card
(which uses an ide converter, so it looks like a regular ide hard drive to
the os & bios). These worked fine when I used syslinux & fat16.
If I take out the flash card & ide converter and put it in a newer p4
system, it boots fine.

boot Soekris 4801 with EXTLINUX
Hi.
I am trying to use EXTLINUX 3.08 to boot a Soekris net4801 from a
CompaqFlash card.
BIOS reports the CF card as the first master harddisk.
During boot/load the loader hangs after this output:
EXTLINUX 3.08 2005-05-19
PXELINUX and LILO works fine on the same setup
It this a general problem with Soekris/net4801 and EXTLINUX?
