SElinux suggestions needed: migrating backup service
Hi folks, normally I have not so much to do with SElinux but I expected to get in touch sooner or later :-) I migrated a backup-system from El5 to EL6 and the rsync backup process is complaining about selinux attr's now. client <-> server (fetches via rsync -aHAX) client# sestatus SELinux status: disabled server# sestatus SELinux status: enabled

a (generic?!?) problem with server-side PATH to scp
First, thanks for making my life much more secure! Second, note that I just went from ssh 1.2.27 to openssh 2.3.0p1 and found that server-side scp was broken: make install put scp in /usr/local/bin yet the server-side PATH doesn't include /usr/local/bin... ssh-server# pwd /usr/local/src/openssh-2.3.0p1 ssh-server# ./configure --sysconfdir=/etc --with-ssl-dir=../openssl-0.9.6 \

mondo Centos4
I had asked a few months ago if anyone knew if mondo is compatible with CentOS4. One person said it was still working, but never mentioed if he had done a restore. I had the stable version installed and whenever I ran it there were a few messages about command not found. Well, I had a HD go out and tried booting from the CD and it failed. It was just my desktop PC and my home dir was backed up a

NFS question (and Best Practices)
I saw in another post that a best practices doc will be coming, but I figured I would try to get this working. I''m trying to understand why zfs uses so many "zfs create" so I can use it better. What makes sense is that each zfs fs can have it''s own options (compression, nfs, atime, quota, etc). I really love this because it is so tuneable -- compression on these

I have a samba file server that I created about 20 years ago and in the time I have done the little updates needes to new server (when I move to a new server I copy config and adapt if needed). It only do public file sharing. Some week ago a client stopped to connect to the share. Only this client (Win 10 updated to 1703 or 1709). Rsync deletes too much?
Hello. I'm having a problem using rsync to copy my root partition to a new disk. This disk has a previous copy on it, and rsync seems determined to (unnecessarily) delete files from it. Worse, despite the fact that the files DO exist on the source, it does not update the destination, leaving me with less than I had before?! Here's my usage: ] server# /usr/local/bin/rsync -naxv --delete

Boot from iso file (xen)
Hi, I don't remember how to boot from iso file. I'm getting an inkling on the problem. In my OLD WinNT style Domain setup, I copies all my files to another windows machine. I then setup the new server and once I established a connection which I thought was stable, I copied all the files back to the new server on the AD Domain. I strongly suspect that the problem has to do with the resulting ACLs and permissions from copying between the

"read error" when accessing a file on mounted samba share (Linux)
Hi all, This is my first experience with network file sharing on Linux so I'm looking for debugging advice. Server and client are both running FC5. I've set up my home directory as a share on the server using system-config-samba, everything seems fine. On the client side, as root: # smbclient -L server.domain Password: Domain=[DOMAIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1]

DFS root in homes possible?
Hi list DFS Links in a separate share seems to work, but in the [homes] section does not. Is this a known problem? Samba is 3.0.26a. /etc/smb.conf excerpts: ---------------------------- 8< ---------------------------- [global] ... host msdfs = yes ... [homes] ... msdfs root = yes ... [dfstest] path = /data/dfsroot msdfs root = yes ---------------------------- 8<
