Can this work?
I would like to develop a system where by I can boot any of the
machines on my system - and select from a menu what I would like that
particular client to do. For example, maybe load a bootdisk image from
a network share, and boot that. Or boot the first partition on the
local disk.

Install Using Floppy/CD
Is there a doc that describes how to create a floppy that will boot and then
switch over to the installation CD?
It looks to me like this should be possible using grub on the floppy.

Bootable Floppy w/ Networking & Shell?
I realize this is probably the wrong list but since some of the
principals this list deals with are similar in nature I figured it
could't hurt.
What I am looking to do:
Provide a solution to either boot from a floppy disk, establish a
network connection, give user the ability to run utilities such as fdisk
and dd. as well as provide the same solution as a PXE bootable image.

perhaps the boot-from-cdrom code in Smart Boot Manager?

>>>
No, since booting from CD-ROM requires that the El Torito part of the
BIOS is activated, which it won't be if it didn't boot from CD-ROM in
the first place.

memdisk issues with 3com cards
I'm using pxelinux in an interesting way, to load DOS boot disk images from a
win2k RIS (Remote installation Service) to do various functions. Soem of the
disk images are used for flashing the BIOS on pcs, but a specific few are set
aside for booting MSDOS with MS lanman so that ghost can be run to load images
to/from the lan. I've got 6 different disk images setup and the all work

What do you which you new about pxelinux?
Hi All,
I am going to be presenting a 45 minute session at Linux World in
April on how to use PXELinux to provision linux systems, among other
things.
This probably isn't of value to most on the list, as it is geared
towards giving new users a jumpstart on what's needed so that they
can get up and going quickly along with some practical suggestions
and tips.

PXE floppy, PXELINUX and LOCALBOOT
Hi!
A friend of mine has tried a PXE floppy (build from the new etherboot
5.3.12) to load PXELINUX.0; a menu voice of the pxelinux.cfg use the
LOCALBOOT statement.
Selecting this statement, the PC retry to boot from the floppy... is
this normal?
The user expected that LOCALBOOT would have tried the NEXT boot device
(ie CDROM or HD), not the FIRST boot device (the floppy)...

booting on a dos software
Hi!
I've got a USB key with several tools (small linux, memtest86+)
booting via syslinux.
But now I have to add powermax.exe (a MSDOS tool to test Maxtor
disks) on this key.
As I've always been on Unix/Linux system, I don't know what
to do to run powermax.exe from syslinux.
I've made a boot floppy disk and tried to copy everything
on my usb key and put the command.com in kernel

ISOLINUX users - debugging on by default?
I'm considering the suggestion which was raised before about turning the
debugging messages on by default in isolinux, or specifically, not
building the non-debugging-messages version in the standard distribution.
What do people think (especially distro maintainers?)

Problem booting older laptop
I don't know if this is even the proper place for my issue, but since
the boot floppies that I have downloaded are syslinux based.
I have a 97 vintage Hitachi laptop, and it won't boot newer CDs. It
will, however, boot a Debian 2.1 CD. As we know, that version is quite
old, and it booted off the second CD, not the first.
What I want/need to know, is there a reasonable way for a

Boot to floppy
Is there a way to tell pxelinux to boot to floppy.
I need an option in my comboot menu for this.
Thanks

Installing SYSLINUX in PBR, not MBR?
Hi. Are there any gotchas to installing SYSLINUX in the PBR of a
partition, and not the MBR of the overall hard drive?
The reason I want to do this, is to take my "PXE-on-a-disk" project, and
install it simply into one very small (1MB or so) FAT16 partition.
ftp://ftp.scyld.com/private/jlehan/pxe-on-a-disk.html
This partition would be placed near the very beginning of the drive.

PXElinux bootscreens
I have not found in your documentation any discussion of Graphical frontends
to PXElinux (a la Syslinux).
Is this possible, or likely in the future?

PXE-on-a-disk Intel EM64T reboot
Hello! I have been successful using SYSLINUX and Etherboot to create a
generic "PXE-on-a-disk" package, a floppy image and CD image that
support as many Ethernet cards as possible.
These have support for all of Etherboot's modules that support real PCI
cards: about 25-or-so drivers and 250-or-so cards. I've built Etherboot
ZLILO images, one for each driver, set up to boot

SYSLINUX 2.08-pre5 released
Goodness, how many prereleases has there been in the last week... have
lost count...
Anyway, I have implemented the already-promised chainbooting API, and
have included a sample program to chainboot floppies (it works for
harddisks too, but only for the MBR.)
As a bonus, in the process I actually discovered that booting .bs/.bss
images under SYSLINUX was actually broken... that has been

Large Floppy Images
I have periodically been trying to get memdisk to boot images
larger than your average 1.44Mb floppy and have always been
unsuccessful. I cannot boot anything greater than 1.44Mb. The systems
I'm attempting to do this with are not too old but they are not recent
either. One is a Asus P5A and the other is a Intel SE440BX both with
the most recent bios firmware patches available applied. If

It seems that quite a bit of stuff built up very quickly after the 2.07
release:
Changes from 2.07 to 2.08-pre6:
* Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout
to have a different action than just pressing Enter.
* Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom

Selecting hard disk boot when running syslinux from floppy
Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to have the option to boot from hard disk
when syslinux loads from floppy.
Basicly I'm trying to create a boot disk which gives me the option to boot
from hard disk, possibly after 5 seconds incase I leave the floppy in by
mistake.
The systems I would be using this floppy on would be running Windows NT 4.0,
Windows 2000 and possibly RedHat Linux 7.2.
