COBOL
Just curious, maybe some old timers could help me out. I am working with a company that is migrating 20 years of Mainframe Software Development to Unix, HPUX. How much harder would it be to go to Linux, Centos Linux? Also, anyone have any experience with Fujitsu Cobol on Centos? The Fujitsu people only support Red Hat, and said I'd be on my own with Centos. In other words if it works,

[Off Topic, kind of] eMachine model T5254
Hi list, Best Buy currently has an eMachine on sale for less than $300.00 without monitor. I didn't see any recent complaints on www.consumeraffairs.com. I didn't take the time to do a thourgh search so may have missed some. Red Hat hardware list does not have one eMachine listed. I went to eMachine's home page and found the following: AMD Athlon? BE-2350 dual-core processor NVIDIA?

Time is Fleeting: CentOS 4 question
I have recently built a new server using CentOS4. I've found one major oddity: time resolution is completely whacked. I'm not using an external time source nor am I relying on NTP for time resolution. For some reason, time on this server moves forward at a far more rapid rate. Right now, all my other systems show Sunday May 8, 3:19 pm. The CentOS server thinks its Monday May 9, 3:54

flac-1.1.1 completely broken on linux/ppc and on macosx if built with the standard toolchain (not xcode)
Sadly the latest optimization broke completely everything. The asm code isn't gas compliant. the libFLAC linker script has a typo, disabling the asm optimization and/or altivec won't let a correct build anyway. Instant fixes for the asm stuff: sed -i -e"s:;:\#:" on the lpc_asm.s to load address instead of addis+ori you could use lis and la and PLEASE use the @l(register)

Easiest (best?) linux distribution for dedicated Asterisk box?
First off, I'm sorry for sending so many messages to the list-serv. Hopefully this will be my last for a while! I was going to use my WRT54G router as a small Asterisk box, but I forgot that I had a spare eMachines computer (Intel Celeron 633 MHz, 20GB HD, 64mb RAM). Will this machine work OK for a very simple dedicated home Asterisk box? Also, what is easiest linux distribution to use and

driver.parameter.offdelay vs ups.delay.shutdown / driver.parameter.ondelay vs ups.delay.start
Hi, My Cyber Power reports these two values. Each pair has the same value. Would they normally be the same thing? Thanks Alan

Really Weird Question.....
So I just got ahold of an old e-Machine (Model EL1600) with 1GB of memory. I was going to install CEntOS on it and try to run VirtualBox for other OS'es. I am curious to know if I have to stick with the 2GB "max" the specs say the machine can take or if its possible to install a 4GB module that is designed the same? In other words I have seen 2GB DDR PC2700 memory that will fit

Asterisck as a Fujistu 9600 VOIP Gateway
Hello, Is there anyone out there who is using asterisk as a VoIP Gateway to a Fujitsu 9600? We have the existing system in place, and I have a mini gateway functioning using a devel kit from digium. I am a systems admin, and know near nothing about the Fujitsu, and could really use some "newbie" help, if anyone's got such a system running. Many Thanks, Jacob Leaver Senior

[PATCH] backlight: Avoid double fbcon backlight handling
Backlights controlled by i915.ko and only associated with its connectors and also only associated with the intel_drmfb fbcon, controlled by i915.ko. In this situation, we already handle adjusting the backlight when the fbcon is blanked/unblanked and do not require backlight trying to do the same. Attempting to register with the fbdev as a client causes lockdep to warn about a dependency cycle: [

Network configuration question
Hi, My wife and I live in a two-storey flat, and we have a small home LAN (100% CentOS 5) with a "classical" configuration: On the ground floor, there is the telephone jack with the DSL modem router (192.168.1.254). This modem has a mini-switch with two Ethernet jacks to it, and the two are used by: - the server (192.168.1.1), a "black box" running in a cupboard 24/7 -

Memory Leak When Searching For Multilingual Keyword(s)
On Windows XP, I played the AAF demo (svn://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/trunk/demo) that works nicely with English content. However, if the keyword is non-English (no matter whether there is any content in db), the server immediately causes memory leak over 1GB and stops responding. The languages I tried include: French (utf-8) German (utf-8) Spanish (utf-8) Chinese (utf-8) Japanese

Keyword arguments?
Hi, I just started playing with wxruby (0.3.0) and I noticed that some of the widgets, e.g. Frame, take quite a few arguments. Any chance of providing keyword arguments? I don''t necessarily mean a hash, but you could use the "yield self if block_given?" trick. Instead of: Frame.new(nil,-1,"Hello World",Point.new(300,300),Size.new(300,150)) You could do:
