SV: usernames with capitals
--NoDisclaim-- I cant use an editor to mass update and change usernames as this is a part of an automatic useradd routine written in an ancient legacy application which calls useradd and usermod, we have been using this software for more than 15 years, so its hard for me to argue for a rewrite, so im forced to bend the OS instead it isnt a problem on redhat 8.0, so somewhere in the patches for

usernames with capitals
Hi, im new to the list, so bear with me if this was discussed earlier! For historical issues we need to maintain usernames in all capitals ie. CD our test environment is running centos 3.4 - our live environment is on redhat 8.0 the useradd program won't allow me to create a new user with capitals, and usermod wont change a lower case user name to upper case! What is my options now ? - do

EL5.1 client problems
Hi all, I attempted to add an EL5.1 client to our puppet server (EL5), and after signing the client cert, got the error "Certificates were not trusted: hostname not match with the server certificate" I found the mailing list discussion and the relevant page: http://www.reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/RubySSL-2007-006 As far as I can tell, my puppermaster''s cert CN matches

crond not starting on reboot since U7
Hi, Just updated a few servers to U7, and rebooted them. I found out that crond would not start at boot even if it is configured to: crond 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off I have tested another reboot, same thing: I had to start crond manually. I don't see anything in the logs, and I don't have direct access to the console right now. Anyone seen the

backup and restore of ZFS root disk using DVD driveand DAT tape drive
Dear all, given a DVD drive and DAT Tape Drive, and using Solaris 10 U7 (5/09), how can we plan for a total backup of ZFS root disk and procedure to recover that? Previously using UFS, we just need to use boot from Solaris OS DVD media, also using ufsdump, ufsrestore and installboot. Anybody can point me on how to achieve the same thing when the whole system disk are busted? Thanks in

Java Setup
Hi People I have been following the instructions here http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS but trying to modify them for jdk-6u7-linux-amd64.rpm but there doesn't see to be a compatible java-1.6.0-sun-compat-*.rpm. Does one exist ? If not can anyone point me to some documentation on how I can manually set up things so alternatives will work allowing multiple Java versions.

Sol10u7: can''t "zpool remove" missing hot spare
I''m using Solaris 10u6 updated to u7 via patches, and I have a pool with a mirrored pair and a (shared) hot spare. We reconfigured disks a while ago and now the controller is c4 instead of c2. The hot spare was originally on c2, and apparently on rebooting it didn''t get found. So, I looked up what the new name for the hot spare was, then added it to the pool with "zpool

em algorithm mixture of multivariate normals
Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to have a "R code" to estimate the parameters of a mixture of bivariate (or multivariate) normals via EM Algorithm. I tried to write it, but in the estimation of the matrix of variance and covariance, i have some problems. I generate two bidimensional vectors both from different distribution with their own vector means and variance and

problem with uniroot
Hi R-users,I'm trying to solve a non linear equation, to find the degrees of freedom of a mixture of t student. I'm sure i wrote the minimization equation in the right way, but when i try to run the EM algorithm to estimate the parameters of the mixture, the following error will appear: Error in uniroot(function(z) log(z/2) - digamma(z/2) + 1 - log((z + d)/2) + : f() values at end

Sipura SPA-841 auto-answer support [patch]
Sipura has implemented auto-answer in version 0.9.5 of the SPA-841 firmware. However, it is implemented via the Call-Info header, which Asterisk stable doesn't currently support. The attached patch implments a quick hack to support the Call-Info header from the Dial() application by way of setting the CALL_INFO variable. For example, the following macro can be used to dial up a single

I would like to preform a t.test to each of the measured variables (sand.silt etc.) with a mean and sd for each of the treatments (up or down), and out put this as a table.... USB key problems on enterprise systems
Just came up with some interesting (read: frustrating) problems on RHEL3 and RHEL4 today at work, and I've confirmed one of the problems on my up-to-date CentOS4 system at home. I was forced into releasing some RHEL3 systems to replace our aging RH9 systems without time for adequate testing, and that leads to problems like these. On our legacy RH9 systems, mounting a USB key is no problem,
