Names of variables needed in newdata for predict.glm
all.vars works fine, EXCEPT, it give a bit too much. I only want the regression variables, but in the following example I also get "k" the variable holding the chosen knots. Any machinery to find only "real" regression variables? cheers, Bendix library( splines ) y <- rnorm(100) x <- rnorm(100) k <- -1:1 ml <- lm( y ~ bs(x,knots=k) ) mg <- glm( y ~

Model comparison
Dear all, I would like to know if I can compare by a significance test 2 models with different kind of parameters. Perhaps I am wrong but I think that we can only compare 2 models if one is a sub model of the other. Names of variables needed in newdata for predict.glm
I would like to extract the names, modes [numeric/factor] and levels of variables needed in a data frame supplied as newdata= argument to predict.glm() Here is a small example illustrating my troubles; what I want from (both of) the glm objects is the vector c("x","f","Y") and an indication that f is a factor: library( splines ) dd <- data.frame( D =

vanilla rsync 3.0.9 hangs after transferring ~2000 files
Hello rsync folks I'm trying to use rsync for backing up our servers. This mostly works extremely well, with no problems. However, 1 server is giving me a lot of trouble. It has a directory with (currently) 734088 files in it, and every time I try to backup this dir, rsync hangs after transferring roughly 2000 files. Sometimes it's around 1800, sometimes it's over 2100 (I think), but

Authenticates right on AD server, but still no access...
I have a linux (redhat 8.0) samba server that is a part of a Windows ADS. I have gotten user authentication to work fine (I THINK), but still I have some problems with access to share. The strange thing is that I can access the share from smbclient (on the linux server: #smbclient -d4 //Bones/share -U foo where user foo has no user on the linux box itself, so the authentication is done

problem with all capitals 8.3 filenames
Dear list, After having upgraded from Samba-2.2.8a to Samba-3.0.4 I have problems getting "short preserve case = Yes" to work properly for filenames having only capital letters when seen from NT-4.0 explorer. A mixture of lettercase filenames and all lowercase work fine. What I see is the following: UNIX: Windows-NT: --------

ext3fs: Bad super block
I've got this poor ext3-partition which I can't access. I have tried a lot of things but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. I've got quite important files on that particular partition. I can't even get the block groups from my /dev/hda3 with dumpe2fs! It all happened after a crash. GRUB wouldn't give me the graphical UI. I decided I had to get my dosbootdisk and do an

Same "suggestion" div for multiple autocompletes
Hi, I have this problem when using the ajax autocomplete control. I use the same div for several "categories" of suggestions, but it seems to remember the old suggestions. The suggestion div flickers, and usually ends up showing the previous suggestions. Is there some sort of method for avoiding this? One would of course be to make a div for each suggestion category, but that

2.1.5 problem with mail_location
I've been advised to set : mail_location = maildir:~/ as the home directory is found through a sql request. this has been working perfectly up to and including 2.1.4 from 2.1.5 however this setting gives cause to a problem : instead of looking in the mail home eg /var/mail/domain/user\@domain/ dovecot is looking for mail in /var/mail/domain/user\@domain/~ the '~' directory is
