isolinux problem report
I have tried to use isolinux 2.05, and I am running into a problem where it will not boot. I have previously used version 1.66, and the older version works just fine. Changing nothing except dropping the new version in does not work. Below is all of the relevant info, I believe. This occurs on multiple machines with different BIOS. I am currently in process of doing a binary search to find the

Garbled menu on ISOLINUX
We have a system that is designed with no VGA port, graphics card, or keyboard, only a serial console. We're trying to boot a Linux via ISOLINUX. The problem is that when ISOLINUX comes up, the screen is usually garbled. Not always; sometimes it's intact, sometimes it's completely blank. When it is garbled, it is NOT the garbled text of a wrong baud rate. Rather, it looks like

EXTLINUX
I am trying to boot a ramdisk on a usb stick in read-only mode using extlinux. When the system boots all I am getting is a blinking cursor. The stick booted with lilo, but I had some issues with lilo so I am trying extlinux. 1) I partitioned the stick as a linux partition, formated it ext2, and mounted /dev/sda1 on /mnt/flash. 2) I am running extlinux 3.86. 3) excuted "extlinux -i

10-pre19 ok on pxelinux, w menu32
ok on a soekris 4801. Now that youre in late pre-release, pls consider these doc-patches, 1st sent in May. which are (I assume) still true, if not directly desirable. (reword as you see fit, or reject outrite) They apply -p0 other trivialities: early part of pxelinux paints approx 16 chars wide across serial to my terminal (picocom) and often doesnt scroll, (does so rarely, dont recall

isolinux menu32 (Re: Problems booting on Intel i9x5 motherboards.)
See: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2006-May/006887.html I think I've tracked the problem down a bit more specifically. In edd.S when the kernel calls int 0x13 with %dl=80 [primary disk] & %al=1 [read one sector] and ah set to READ_SECTORS it never returns. However, the following code [which does drive diagnostics] works. mov $0x7E, %al call prtchr movw $0x0000, %ax movb

Using PXELINUX with Windows 2000 DHCP and TFTP
I noticed some links and suggestions on the SYSLINUX web site that reference how to run TFTP on Windows 2000 Server. Two of them suggest installing RIS, and one of them points to a third-party utility. I don't need to install RIS, because I don't want to run Windows setup over PXE. (In fact, I want to use PXELINUX to boot a DOS floppy and run Symantec Ghost to deploy an image.) Also, I

Strange Lockup
Hi All, We seem to have a strange problem with our NEC ML4 pcs. When using pxelinux to network boot, we are getting our menu (using menu.c32) when we choose a option the machine just locks up. If the option requires a password it shows the password box , I put in the password and then it locks up. But strangely the machine will boot from local disk which is an option on the boot menu. Our

Cisco 7970 + New Firmware (8.2)
Hi All, Found out Cisco has some newer firmware available for the 7970 series of phones. New sip images are at version level 8.2 (instead of 8.0.2,8.0.3,8.0.4), posted Dec 10, 2006. This major jump in version numbers has fixed a few bugs (time zone not updating properly), but hasn't figured what some would consider to be showstoppers (registration not fully working, and mwi still not

SOLVED: Garbled menu on ISOLINUX
For posterity's sake, this problem was solved by removing the "serial" command and restoring "console" to the default of 1, thus completely relying on the BIOS console redirection instead of having ISOLINUX write to and read from the serial port. Thanks to Peter for his help a while back. -----Original Message----- From: Syslinux [mailto:syslinux-bounces at zytor.com] On

Can this work?
I would like to develop a system where by I can boot any of the machines on my system - and select from a menu what I would like that particular client to do. For example, maybe load a bootdisk image from a network share, and boot that. Or boot the first partition on the local disk.

Problem with PXEBOOT of diskless client -- fails to mount RAMDISK
I am having a problem with setting up diskless clients under CentOS 5.2. I have everything working under CentOS 4.7. This is an adaptation of the (somewhat old) Diskless Linux with PXE HOWTO by Gerd v. Egidy, originally at the URL http://www.intra2net.com/opensource/diskless-howto/, which is now defunt (there is a mirror of it at http://blog.chinaunix.net/u/2389/showart_82438.html). What I am

Passing TFTP server IP address via pxelinux config file
It is possible to pass the IP address of a TFTP server to pxelinux config file. Scenario: I'm trying to network boot a thinstation image file (http://thinstation.sourceforge.net) via PXE. However, I'm using a DSL router as my DHCP server and Argon CMS (http://www.argontechnology.com/cms) as my PXE/TFTP server. When it initrd is execute and the network adapter is detected and TCP/IP

10 year old question
Thank you for that. I?ve set up the thinstation-v5.6.1.iso in vm and setup the chroot. I did my first ./build ?allmodules and wrote the iso to usb using lili version 2.0 so that I can boot with older syslinux. I am doing this for the needed hardware profile to build from inside the vm however the usb has been stuck on the syslinux version line with a line following: Thinstation..... for 30 minutes

R on Thin Client with Win 2003
I'm having some fun with R on a Windows 2003 Server talking to a Wyse Winterm running Thinstation Linux. The Winterm boots Linux from the network and then runs rdesktop to a Dell 1750 server (dual 3G Xeon or somesuch). The first problem I noticed was that R (and the terminal) ground to a near halt during demo(graphics). Further investigation showed that it seemed to be due to having
