Booting disk images with syslinux?
Is it possable to boot a diskimage with syslinux?
So often I run into bios upgrade disks images or can
easily create a disk image and would like an easy way
to just boot these images.
I know isolinux does this and I vagely remember using
it to make a bootable windows 95 cd back in the day.
It worked to.
It would be nice if I could just copy the disk image
to a usbstick and use syslinux to boot

MS-DOS Magic ?
Hi all,
I've tried and retried to make some USB sticks bootable. I started by
making one partition, labeling it FAT16, copying a kernel, an initrd and
a very simple syslinux.cfg file. I ran syslinux /dev/sda1 on it.
Didn't boot. I tried placing on it the mbr.bin file ('cat mbr.bin >
/dev/sda') but still no boot. Then I tried various combinations of
these two. Labeling

CentOS-7 on a USB stick
I tried dd-ing the ISO onto a USB stick, as suggested in
<http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7>,
but it didn't boot.
Did anyone have better luck with this?
In any case, I got it working by running livecd-iso-to-disk
on a Fedora-20 laptop.
I've found before that this is the best program around
for the purpose.
But I've 2 queries about this:
1. Why isn't this

Samba PDC - Samba Member Server
The configuration I'm trying to use is a SAMBA PDC with a SAMBA Member Server, using
tdbsam. Binaries for SuSE 9.3 from the samba web page, version 3.0.14a-4.1.i586.rpm.
This is SuSE 9.3 Pro with patches and kernel up-to-date thru 20050708. I need to use
Samba 3.0.14a because in production the Samba PDC will have to work with several
Samba member servers and 3 Windows 2003 member servers.

Both lines in an ATA using the same UID/PASS
I have an ATA186, a tech just told me to set UID0 and UID1 to the same
username, and PASS0 and PASS1 to the same password. In my mind, this
would seem to have the unit registering twice under the same account,
which Asterisk wouldn't support. When a call comes in, it should go to the
last line to register. So to me, this means the call could sometimes come
in on Line 1 and sometimes on Line

Real Dos name of file
Is there a tool that can tell me the real dos name to long dos name
mappings of a file in linux?
in windows?
I can come close with using md5 sums but if there are copies of files
then deleting the wrong one would be a problem area. In linux I
normally have the boot partition mounted as vfat so that the default
kernel installer
can write files like normal. Is there an easy way to know the dos

Syslinux + integrated flash disk
Quick summary: Syslinux stops at "Boot failed". Which, from a quick look at
the raw disk image, seems to indicate that the boot sector loads but it fails
to load the .sys loader.
The details: I've been trying to load Linux (or etherboot...or anything at all
that is not NT embedded) into a set of Compaq Evo T20 48/64 for a while now.
What I finally managed to do is using the

Hash: SHA1
Hi All,
I'm giving serious thought to loading 5.1 on my Inspiron 1501 laptop,
but I'm wondering about certain hardware support such as the following:
- - Broadcom Wireless Adapter - 1390 Wlan (bcm43xx)
- - USB (Pny Memory Stick - everytime on previous version CentOS has eaten
the damned things)
- - pptp vpn client(s)
Any comments?
thanks,

Histogram with different colors for different portions
Dear Rusers,
I would like to color different sections of a histogram different colors.
I have an example that was done by "brute force" given below. Has anyone
implemented something like this in general? If not, any suggestions/pointers
on how to write a general function to do so would be most appreciated.

How to set a host with public IP within a private network?
Hello! I have the following setup:
1) a connection to my ISP with a public IP (1.2.3.4)
with the gateway 1.2.3.1
2) an allocated IP class with 64 addresses
(5.6.7.192/26)
3) two LANs connected through two NICs:
a) 192.168.0.0/24 on eth1 (192.168.0.1)
b) 10.0.0.0/24 on eth2 (10.0.0.1)
The IPs from the allocated class are all assigned to
eth0.
The networks are SNATed to the external IP and

Softlinking to a dvd-drive with inconsistent mount points?
In Suse 9.2, it was easy to softlink to a drive from
/home/username/.wine/dosdevices because the mount
point for the drive was always the same. That is,
/media/dvdrecorder was always where the disc would get
mounted.
NOW, with Suse 9.3, the mount point is
/media/DISC_NAME. Since each disk has a different
name, there is never a consistent mount point. So, I
can't make Wine's

Problems with fsck
Hi List,
i'd like to share with you what happened yesterday.
Kernel 2.6.36.1
ocfs2-tools 1.6.3 (latest).
I had an old OCFS2 partition created with a 2.6.32 kernel and ocfs2
tools 1.4.5.
I unmounted all partitions on all nodes in order to enable discontig-bg.
I then used tunefs to add discontig-bg, inline-data and indexed-dirs.
During indexed-dirs tunefs segfaulted and since then, fsck

Hello Guys,
I am trying to make Asterisk do dial-out calls.
It doesn't even do test calls. It never calls. I
tested everything and i am clueless. However i can
call Asterisk and it picks up the phone and executes
the dial-plan. However, my dial-plan is supposed to
do
outbound calls.
Zap is configured correctly.
I am using a TDM400 card from Digium with 4 Fxo

Howto create hd image with bootable (Free)DOS system
Hello,
I have to update the BIOS of several hundreds of geographically
distributed PCs.
Since we are using PXELINUX for years to install the OS (Linux) on this
PCs PXELINUX is my
first choice for doing this job.
The vendor of this PCs provides a bootable ISO image for the update.
Because of the size of the
firmware it is not possible to use a FD image (not even 2.88MB). But in
the documentation
