Can this work?
I would like to develop a system where by I can boot any of the machines on my system - and select from a menu what I would like that particular client to do. For example, maybe load a bootdisk image from a network share, and boot that. Or boot the first partition on the local disk.

Large Floppy Images
I have periodically been trying to get memdisk to boot images larger than your average 1.44Mb floppy and have always been unsuccessful. I cannot boot anything greater than 1.44Mb. The systems I'm attempting to do this with are not too old but they are not recent either. One is a Asus P5A and the other is a Intel SE440BX both with the most recent bios firmware patches available applied. If

Pxelinux/memdisk with XP "MS-DOS" boot disk
I'm trying to use this universal DOS TCP/IP boot disk available here: http://members.iinet.net.au/~bdriver/bootdisk/ It requires an MS-DOS formatted disk created by Windows XP. It works great as a floppy but doesn't boot at all with memdisk. The problem can be simplified down to just the XP boot disk. If you make an MS-DOS startup disk with XP on a floppy, dd the floppy to an image

Problems booting msdos with memdisk + syslinux on hp laptops

MSDOS on my network
Hello, I am looking for the first time at setting up Linux with Samba as a primary server on our network. I would like to replace my SCO Unix system and a Windows box I use to serve MSDOS machines. The MSDOS server seems to be the stumbling block at this point in my research. I can only run netbEUI on them as far as I know and Samba seems to only talk on TCP/IP. Do you know of a solution?

booting w98 bootdisk via memdisk
Hallo, I try to boot the windows 98 bootdisk via memdisk. It doesn't work completely. Booting a freedos FD image works, booting the windows 98 image works too. But the windows 98 boot disk then should extract the file "ebd.cab" with the file "extract.com", and that step fails. Is that a syslinux problem or a windows problem? Viele Gruesse! Helmut

syslinux installation issues
I've recently returned to working on FreeDOS again after quite some time, and read about an unmerged MEMDISK branch that allows to boot DOS-based ISOs. This seemed quite usefull to me as it allows for faster modifications to my code/scripts/disklayout. The general idea was to install Syslinux 3.83 to harddisk, then add the modified Memdisk from that boot-land forum, as well as my ISO. In

Strange MEMDISK problem with XP Bootfloppy images
Hello all. I am pretty new to this list but I have looked through the archives and did not see any reference to this problem. I have an MS-DOS boot floppy image that I am trying to load using MEMDISK. The disk is simply a boot floppy made using XPSP2. I have tried it on 4 different machines, all Dells. PowerEdge 2650 Server, Latitude D610 Notebook, Optiplex GX280 Desktop and Optiplex GX520

pxelinux/memdisk booting MSDOS floppy image requires local floppy disk
I found that if I do not have a local floppy installed and enabled on my client, I will get the error 'Non-system disk' when I try to boot DOS floppy images. NT or Syslinux floppy images boot fine. If I enable the floppy in the BIOS, then it boots the DOS floppies just fine. Is this normal? Is there a workaround? There are MS-DOS images, so perhaps this is an MS-DOS limitation. --

PXELINUX keeppxe mem footprint
Hi, I want to use PXELINUX to load a DOS disk image which I currently use for Win2K/XP unattended installs. I want to move away from reliance on specific NDIS2 drivers and use the 3Com UNDIS3C driver instead. I have used this successfully to start the MSClient, but the problem is that the UNDI and PXE layer take about 90K of base memory, which means that WINNT.EXE has insufficent memory to run

Concern: rsync failing to find some attributes in a file transfer?
I have a regular script I run to make static "snapshots" of my home file system, with each being all the files that changed in the past 24 hours. I just moved my home partition to a new harddisk w/more space. I ran the util and have gotten odd results each time I ran it. This one bothers me... as I'm not sure why the attrs would be missing. How can the names be transfered but no

cygwin 'QueryUserInfo' fails dueto samba error. Wazup?
I made progress in tracking down a problem on cygwin that's been bothering me for a while since Win7 and domain. when I do: > mkpasswd -D mkpasswd (434): [31] A device attached to the system is not functioning. A network trace shows that it's trying to get the home dir information from my main user. Wwhen it queries the info Samba returns STATUS UNSUCCESSFUL (indicated in network

KEEPPXE/DOS
First off I love syslinux and it has worked flawless for us on the unix side of the realm. We're trying to use our ghost images within a dos netboot using syslinux. Unfortunatly we can only pass DHCP ip's to hosts that exhibit a vendor code 'like windows/pxe/and other os's do". Unfortunatly DOS does not, so we cannot request a second IP after the pxe process to map samba

Windows harddisk images.
Hello all, I've been following this project with interest, and have had great fun implementing Isolinux within the FreeDOS cdrom distribution. Since I'm not that an expert at Linux, I would like to know how I can *succesfully* generate a bootable image from a partition. Situation is like this: (640MB RAM on system) 60GB IDE harddisk, primary partition 1 win98 500MB extended partition
