pxelinux and booting dos
I have got pxelinux booting a DOS ramdisk via the memdisk program from the
command line. However I am having a problem getting it to use the
configuration file. pxelinux find the configuration directory,
pxelinux.cfg and then finds the file, C0A801, and reads the file, but no
matter what I put on my
"kernel" line, it looks for a kernel named "linux". When I create a sofft

"raw" and "iso" are not mutually exclusive. I think that perhaps you
meant "HDD versus El Torito emulation." One can do:
LABEL ramwin
KERNEL memdisk
APPEND raw iso
INITRD ramwin.iso

Running a script on xm create
Hi,
I was just wondering if it is possible to cause a script to run
(configured in the domu.cfg file) each time "xm create domu.cfg" is run,
but before the machine is actually started?
ie, I''d like to "setup" the disks for the VM before xen/qemu tries to
use the devices and allocate to the domu.
I''m using xen 4.1.3 on Debian testing, and using the xm

memdisk issues with 3com cards
I'm using pxelinux in an interesting way, to load DOS boot disk images from a
win2k RIS (Remote installation Service) to do various functions. Soem of the
disk images are used for flashing the BIOS on pcs, but a specific few are set
aside for booting MSDOS with MS lanman so that ghost can be run to load images
to/from the lan. I've got 6 different disk images setup and the all work

RAMDisk vs Extarnal server for recording
I'm having loads of problems with recordings, as in crappy audio quality and
lost pieces of the recordings. I've been searching for a solution and the
solutions i find on the interwebs include a ramdisk, for local recording, or
another machine, handling the recording. I guess the ramdisk would be the
"easy" solution and the external machine would be little harder to set up.

Max tftp boot size?
Hi;
In http://syslinux.zytor.com/history.php, you mention:
PXELINUX, ISOLINUX: Correctly handle files larger than 65535
blocks (32 MB for PXELINUX, 128 MB for ISOLINUX.)
However, I am having issues with trying to make any compressed initrd.gz

--no-blksize specified to disable the blksize command. The

Smbd & nmbd both refuse to start?
Hello all -
I'm getting a weird error message on a custom system I'm trying to setup
using SAMBA. The box is running a slightly modified 2.0.37 linux kernel to
run the entire OS out of a huge (128 MB) ramdrive. This particular box will
be running for years before anything should fail in it. Anyhow everything
works fine so far, except neither smbd or nmbd will start with the following

Hi All,
This is a performance update. I have built appliance type servers
with the following specs:

Memory 1Gig DDR2
No hard drive, running in Ramdrive but using Sandisk Compact Flash to
hold compressed image and /var directory
Processor 3.2 Gig Pentium 4, HT Turned Off

I'm using asterisk with looping call test configs to play audio and

floppy image issues
Hi!
sorry for the top post.
I have had some troubles in the past trying to make equipment to
boot a floppy with MS-DOS that also used ms networking to access
the network.
Particularly the Gateway GSX 500 cannot have the onboard NIC with
PXE enabled, as it eats about 92k of highmemory, which in turn
makes impossible to start Windows XP setup due to low memory.
On that particular machine I had

SQLite3 + RAM drive => 3 times faster unit tests
One problem I sort of always had with the ActiveRecord''s tight coupling
to the SQL backend is how slow it makes the unit tests. OK, there are
some ways to make it faster at a price of extra complexity (reusing the
fixtures, doing a rollback in the end of the test, etc), but still - it
is much slower than what I would like a unit test to be.
Today I had a very simple idea (why, oh why

Questions before starting an interesting Xen project
Hello,
Me and four other students at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in
Sweden are in the startup phase for an interesting project utilizing
Xen. We have been asked to modernise and improve the performance of a
router simulation package called Crab[1]. Currently Crab runs a few
instances of UML and inside each guest OS Quagga[2] is run. Quagga is a
routing daemon with interface similar

ext3 integrated ramdisk funktionality
Hi,
are there any plannings to integrate a kind of ramdisk funktionality
into ext3? I imagine a dynamic ramdisk into which only modified files of
a read-only mounted ext3 are copied in order to have read-write access
without really writing (because the filesystem is on a compact flash
disk, for example).

How to use syslinux to mount initial ramdisk as root file system and mount NFS to "/mnt/nfs"?
I know this is not a question for syslinux itself, but a question for
syslinux usage on Linux.
I use pxelinux to boot Linux. I know I can use "root=/dev/nfs
nfsroot=ip:/dir" to mount the NFS as root file system. But it needs me
to prepare several different directories for different clients and
each directory should include a initrd.gz copy (e.g., cp/mv/mkdir
utilities, etc).

QCOW in RAMDISK on Xen
I have been messing with QCOW on Xen and I''ve come to the conclusion that
nobody actually uses it otherwise it would work. Has anyone gotten QCOW2 and
Xen to work reliably?
I have 40 PV VMs that are identical (initially) and would like to move from
separate disk images to one base image sitting in a ramdisk and the COW
images hosted on an iSCSI storage device. The VMs would boot off the
