Thank you puppet!!
I''ve been hacking at puppet for the past week or two, and came up with
some great stuff, but I''m wondering if there''s a way to tie it all
together
To create a virtual machine for our company''s QA environment, I''m
currently doing 3 things:
#create a vm
node vmsvr2 inherits default {
include vmserver

CentOS 4.2: kernel version
Hello
Installing sw on a CentOS 4.2 (iso version) I notice that the kernel
version is
2.6.9-22.0.1.Elsmp
in RH4 UP2 the kernel version is 2.6.9-22.Elsmp
Some sw complain and check the kernel version.
Why this specific version extension 0.1 ?
Thanks for your help

I'm not talking about diff'ing the yum and dnf programs. I'm talking about
diffing the RPM packages that "rpm -V" reveals as changed. Such a utility
would download the package if it wasn't in the cache, unpack it with

RH4 EL and the latest ocfs2 source
it would seem that the future ocfs2 (0.99.16>) builds will not support =< 2.6.12 kernels "out of the box" or am i missing something? 0.99.13 will build with a RHEL4 kernel, but later vers fail with the configure check on generic_drop_inode. the patch to fix it seems simple enough, however it seems that even if this was an rpm, youd have to rebuild your kernel before proceeding.

NFS root mount problem
Hello. =)
I''m having a bit of trouble with my nfs xen installation and have
spent much time trying to research/figure out this problem with no
luck, so I''m hoping someone might be able to help me here. =)
I''ve successfully installed xen 3.02 on Linux RH4 on my Sun single proc

puppet performance and inability to retrieve file metadata
Hey All,
I''m running into a problem whereby some nodes are struggling to retrieve the metadata for files. I''ve moved all the nodes across to 0.25.1 to try and eliminate version inconsistencies though they still appear. I''ve also started using asynchronous stored configs as well.
I''m wondering if this has anything to do with performance on the box and if there

ocfs2 filesystem seems out of sync
Hi there
I recently installed an OCFS2 filesystem on our FC-SAN. Everything
seemed to work fine and I could read & write the filesystem from both
servers that are mounting it. After a while though, writes coming from
one node do not appear on the other node and vice versa.
I am not sure what's causing this, and not very experienced at debugging
filesystems. If anybody has any

Keyboard stops working
Hi all! I'm new to the list (and syslinux for that matter!) but I've
searched as best I can for a similar problem to no avail. I've been
using pxelinux.0 + menu.c32 + memdisk to load MS-DOS boot images for a
few months now using version 3.07. When I introduced a new Intel 945G
based machine to the network I started getting very erratic behavior,
ranging from reboots to hangs, to

yum/dnf diff
I'm used to using "git diff" and "svn diff" to view changes in my
development system. Is there a similar thing that works with changes
between a repository package and the installed RPM? Ie. something that
shows the changes in /etc hinted at by "rpm -V". I'm already using
etckeeper+git but that would combine changes from updates with my own
modifications.

openssh 1.2pre13 on Linux/i386 RH4.2 problems
Can't compile sshd.c because of pam errors. The errors are attached
below, and I apologize for the >75 chars a line. RH4.2, with the
latest updates, runs pam-0.57-5. I could upgrade PAM from source, but
I'd probably break other programs.

Hi!
I'm quite new to Dovecot. helping my friend to migrate from Courier-IMAP
to something more efficient, we are evaluating Dovecot at the moment.
I had to prepare 2 small patches for Dovecot to suit our needs, and I've
decided to post it here. I'm not fully familiar with Dovecot
architecture yet, I'd appreciate if someone could look if these changes
make sense (i.e.

Hi.
I have a problem that I can't seem to find an optimal way of solving other
than by doing things manually. I'm trying to subset a data frame by the
number of observations that occurred at a given row but want to take into
account the number of observations of preceding rows. Here's an example.
I'm looking at intervals of data [10,20), [10, 30), ....., [10,120) which

memory leaking?? kernel problem?
I would think someone would have noticed this in RHEL or CentOS if it was a pure kernel problem. What all are you running in the way of daemons? Something there could be to blame, no? Also, if the servers are identical in terms of software and hardware, have you considered a memory check? When I made the switch from Windows to Linux I discovered something interesting. Since Linux caches memory (as

Help with authenticating against Active Directory.
Hello all,
I'm trying to authenticate shell login's against an MS-ADS. I don't
have admin access to the ADS, but I can talk to the admins.
I have gotten as far as getting authentication working, but the uid's
depend on the order of login. ie: the first guy to login gets 10000,
the next gets 10001, etc. The problem I have with this is that I want
to share the home
