deleting from hash question
I''m a ruby newbie and have what is probably a relatively simple problem
I''m trying to solve. Say that I created a hash:
TASKS = {
"homework" => "Do Your Homework",
"chores" => "Your Have Chores",
"exercise" => "Don''t Forget to Exercise"
}
and then I had an Assignment model with:

Transferring boot sequence to hard disk
Hello everyone,
I use syslinux to make bootable USB sticks. I would like to offer the
choice, right at the beginning, to either continue booting from the USB
stick, or to boot as usual from the hard disk. Is this psossible to
do with syslinux ?
Thanks,

HEADSUP: USB da(4) quirks disabled for 4.9 and 5.2
If you have any of the devices listed below, please test with a recent
-stable or -current. They will stop working in 4.9 and 5.2 although old
behavior can _temporarily_ be enabled by adding "options DA_OLD_QUIRKS" to
your kernel config. If I don't hear from anyone, they'll be going away
permanently after the releases.

detaching console from background asterisk
This puzzles me. If I start asterisk in the background, and then attach
to it to perform some chores, is there a way to detach again without
stopping the background process? Entering "stop now" kills both the
console attachment as well as the background process. I need to attach
to the running asterisk in order to do "init keys" but once I do that,
it seems I cannot just

New to Samba
I am new to samba but becuase I use squid and I want to track my authenticated users I installed samba 3 but keep hitting dead ends on how to add it to the domain etc. I can't seem to even get the smbd to startup. I got swat keying into the smb.conf but it ended up in another directory so I don't think that is configured. I can't even find good documentation to see if samba is even

best source for rpmdevtools RPM in C5
hello,
I'm going to try this question again. The first time I botched it and the answers I got were useless.
I want to use rpmdevtools to help with some packaging chores. There is no C5 version that I can find. I've located an SRC RPM in a location that is known to be C5 compatible. There are 2 versions of rpmdevtools:

Boot disk on USB memory stick
Having looked at some of the discussions circulating before,
I tried the recipe that Bruce Bryne suggested to make a memory stick
to be a RedHat EL bootable file system for RedHat installation,
but then hit a "missing operating system" problem.
Below are the steps I took:
a. mkdosfs /dev/sdc1
b. mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/stick
c. cp rhas3u2/isolinux/* /mnt/stick
where rhas3u2 is the

Using R in Java?
Hi 2 questions-
1. Is there a package that will allow me to run R scripts (entirely) from
Java?
2. If so, is there a way to capture the output of those scripts, (including
images) and embed them in my SWT java app?
My challenge is I have a java app that does some statistical chores- it
would be fantastic if the users could use their R skills to modify a script
in whatever R environment they like

Use virt-* tools from within container?
Hi, all. I've set up an LXC container for various Openstack admin
chores, and now I'm being asked to have it used for importing qcow2
images -- on which we want to run utilities like virt-sparsify and
virt-sysprep, first. Sadly, when I do that, it dies horribly, e.g.,
root@openstack-cli:/tmp# virt-sysprep -a cloud-image.qcow2

soak in its' wisdom.

can't create a local mirror
I either have a problem with rsync or it is not intended to do what I am
asking it to do.
I am trying to mirror a copy of /home/foo to a local usb drive. The copy is
made, but the destination does not appear to be deleting files I have deleted
on the source. Here is the command line I am using (part of a script I use to
do this and other housekeeping chores):

trouble getting output from graphs, again
It seems like every time I try to do something a little different, I
cannot get output saved just right.
This is on RedHat 7.2 with R 1.4.1.
The png output looks fine, but the eps output has the problem that the
bounding box on the legend cuts the legend in half. I put a copy of a
bad one here:

Proposal: model.data
Greetings:
I'm still working on functions to make it easier for students to
interpret regression predictions. I am working out a scheme to
more easily create "newdata" objects (for use in predict functions).
This has been done before in packages like Zelig, Effects,
rms, and others. Nothing is "exactly right," though. Stata users keep
flashing their "predicted

IP Problems - Address won't stick on reboots!
Centos 4.0
P4 Dual Xeon
2gig Ram
One 100mb NIC
The problem is that the nic won't hold a fixed IP address. What I mean
is that if I refresh it, after booting up by typing "ifdown eth0" and
then "ifup eth0" - it then reflects the correct IP address. However, it
won't 'have' and IP address upon boot. Also, it seems to hang on the
logger service starting up. It
