Boot image from hard drive from syslinux initiated by a floppy disk boot
I have been trying to find the information by searching through the archives and google, so I am sorry if this question has been asked before I just have not been able to find an answer. I have a syslinux boot floppy which loads to the boot prompt, I wish to load a .gz image which is on my hd0 0 by using memdisk as the kernel. I have tried to kernel memdisk append root=/dev/hd0 0 (also just

Your config is partly right. But it also needs a Qemu

Syslinux / Hard drive booting
Hello, We have been using syslinux to boot machines successfully for quite a while. However, we now have a model of machine that just doesnt seem to work. We are currently using syslinux/pxelinux 2.05 but have tried 2.03 as well Here is the procedure we normally use. This is typically fully unattended. We boot a small linux distro using pxelinux. Then we copy in mbr.bin from the syslinux

Problem using syslinux with hard drive partition
I have been succesful in using syslinux to boot from a hard drive, by dd'ing a Linux (LRP) image onto the drive and then running syslinux (i.e. dd if=the_image of=/dev/hda followed by a syslinux /dev/hda), however I'm having problems getting it to work from a partition on the hardrive. I'm trying to use syslinux on a small 100MB FAT16 partition (same commands as before, just

pen drive, hard disk, cd not being detected
I am working in Centos5.5. Pen drive, hard disk, cd are not being recognised. During booting, "mounting local filesystems [failed]" is displayed among other errors which I am unable to see as the messages proceed fast. Are these messages stored in some file, so that I can check them and report all the errors that are displayed during booting. -------------- next part -------------- An

syslinux hard drive boot problem
I've recently moved from pxegrub to pxelinux (well, syslinux...) for many benefits. (memory fingerprint, etc) Its running perfectly, and exactly how I like it, except. LOCALBOOT 0 DOES NOT actually mount and boot the hard drive. All it seems to be doing is actually return error to the BIOS, which then boots the next device in it's list. This isnt a problem on most systems, but on

Selecting hard disk boot when running syslinux from floppy
Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to have the option to boot from hard disk when syslinux loads from floppy. Basicly I'm trying to create a boot disk which gives me the option to boot from hard disk, possibly after 5 seconds incase I leave the floppy in by mistake. The systems I would be using this floppy on would be running Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and possibly RedHat Linux 7.2.

Format for the Hard Disk image that SYSLinux can boot.
I couldn't find this information on your site for SysLinux, and I'm sorry to bother you with this, now, but I was wondering what format of hard disk images SysLinux supports. Is it a raw format, or a format like drive image or ghost. Thank you for your time, Joseph Baugher -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

SYSLINUX and local hard disk
Hello, First, I'd like to say that this is an extremely useful piece of software - thank-you very much! I am working with couple of schools in my area, and using pxelinux and syslinux for various things. I find the functionality of pxelinux's localboot option to be extremely useful - I force pxe boot, and then use pxelinux to let the user choose local boot or remote boot. This is

Using syslinux to boot from .... hard disk?
Hi all, Sorry if this question seems odd. Is it possible to use syslinux to boot from a regular hard disk? I know that's exactly what grub, lilo etc. are doing, but I would really like to utilize the comboot option of syslinux. Are there LBA limitations to such a setup? failed when boot the kernel image on the hard disk from syslinux on a floppy
After formatting a floppy to MSDOS format and using syslinux /dev/fd0, I successfully installed ldlinux.sys to the root directory of the floppy. Then I created a syslinux.cfg under the root directtory of this floppy to load the linux kernel in my first hard disk, 3rd partition, boot folder. The file system of this partition is ext3. The floppy has a FAT file system. This config file is listed

Hi, Ady wrote: > [hard disk emulation boot image works with VirtualBox] For a reader of the UEFI specs this comes very unexpected. Together with the report of Pascal that a hard-disk-emulation works even with mkisofs option -b (i.e. Platform Id x86 BIOS) it appears that the UEFI implementation treats the El Torito boot image like the whole device, regardless of Platform Id.
