etherboot 5.3.14 and pxelinux keyboard problem
Hello PXE folk,
I mentioned in another thread that I had problems finding an etherboot
that actually works with a 486 and Realtek 8019/NE2000 card. Etherboot
worked up until v 5.3.5-mc1 with the ne driver but then stopped working
between 5.3.7 to 5.3.13 (anoying since 5.3.7 started supporting
PXELINUX. But then I downloaded 5.3.14 and it seems to work again with
the ne driver (finally

PXELINUX on top of Etherboot?
Question for people...
Has anyone actually tried running PXELINUX on top of Etherboot? There
is something in Etherboot 5.1.7 called FREEBSD_PXEEMU, which seems to be
a PXE stack subset, in particular it seems to support the following calls:
PXENV_GET_CACHED_INFO
PXENV_UDP_OPEN
PXENV_UDP_WRITE
PXENV_UDP_READ
PXENV_UDP_CLOSE
PXENV_UNLOAD_STACK
PXENV_UNDI_SHUTDOWN
This happens to be pretty

Sending UDP packets from comboot
Hi everyone.
I've read through the archives and found a few posts about using the PXE
stack, but none of these really helped me.
What i want to do is: Prompt the user for 2 values, desired hostname and
a "pin" (just a number) and send this information
over UDP to my server
The problem is not the user input but the UDP part.
I've tried to change the code from the post of jesse

pxelinux 3.08-pre8 hangs at boot prompt under vmware GSX
I'm using pxelinux to boot vmware instances, running
VMware-gsx-3.1.0-9089. When I enable the boot: prompt, the prompt is
displayed but then keyboard input is not echoed promptly. By that, I
mean that if you hit a few keys they wont be echoed until several
minutes later. I think the problem relates to the check_for_arp
function; if I comment the line in that that calls pxenv, then the

Automatically inferring %d on multi-domain virtual install ?
very intrigued by your solution Timo, have attempted something similar in
the past to no avail.
When I tried I was unable to retain the user at domain when setting the domain
as extra field - protected is new to me and can't find documentation - but
also doesn't work :(
# cat passwd.domains
10.100.1.1:::::::domain:protected=foo.org
10.100.1.2:::::::domain:protected=bar.org

How to make "external loopback" with 2 interfaces
Hello
For testing purposes, i would like to make a connection between 2
network interfaces on the same machine.
For example, i have eth0 (10.0.0.100) and eth1 (10.0.0.101) and would
like to have the traffic going on the "wire", not just taking the
"shortcut" inside the protocol stack.
I have played around a little bit with the routing table, but did not
succeed.

nilo -> tftp-hpa interaction
I downloaded nilo and oskit from www.nilo.org.
Added pcnet32.c linux-2.0.39 driver to oskit.
Compiled nilo with pcnet32 and produced boot floppy image.
Use it inside vmware vm. My aim is to be able to test pxelinux using
vmware+nilo and not a real machine.
Floppy starts, detects nic, receives ip from dhcp server, requests boot
image to tftpd-hpa, then crashes when talking to tftp. Is

[GIT PULL] elflink fixes
Hi Peter,
The main part of this pull request includes commits that try to replace
as many __intcall() invocations as possible. Some remain, but not many
(and eventually they'll be gone too). There's also a patch to make
better use of ld's --as-needed option and various other bug
fixes/cleanups.
The following changes since commit ff7334a2ce536b7f4b1f6d6f93ff4e285a3bd45a:

Slow access when opening shares
Hey,
I have slow access when I first open shares. If I reboot my XP box and then
go to access a share, it takes a good 10 seconds for files to come up, even
after I've typed in my username and password. Once accessed it runs fine and
is fast. But, if I don't access it for 30 minutes, when I access it again it
sits for like 10 good seconds before it does anything. This is very
annoying.

Problems with qemu-kvm and etherboot-roms-kvm
CentOS-Virt,
I ran into an error attempting to offer two boot options using libvirt with
kvm. I wanted the virtual to first attempt to boot from its "disk" and if
that didn't work, fall back on netboot (we kickstart install). This
argument is "-boot cn".
If the disk you provide is of type IDE this will probably work for you,
unless you use "-drive" with the

how to fix bugs in etherboot?
Upstream etherboot accepted a patch (attached) to fix wrapping of the
TFTP block index. Without the patch we are unable to boot recent
Solaris over the network in HVM guests (because our miniroot now
exceeds 64k blocks).
Whilst unstable has moved on to gpxe (which doesn''t suffer from this
problem), it would be useful to us for this to be fixed in the stable
series.
Any preferences on

memdisk etherboot integration
Folks:
I've used etherboot to create a zrom that successfully brings a image of a
bootable floppy into high memory. What I'd like to do is glue memdisk in so
that it can hook int13 and serve the transferred image for booting when
etherboot hands control back to the BIOS.
The trick, and this is where I'd appreciate "gotchas", pointers or "this is an

Problem loading 2.6 Kernel with syslinux + etherboot
Hi,
I am trying to use syslinux and etherboot together to network boot my
clients. I am able to load my 2.4 Kernel without problems. However, when I
try to load a 2.6 Kernel, I get this error:
Could not find ramdisk image: miniroot.gz
My initrd, named miniroot, does exist and I really don't know why syslinux
is not able to find it. Can anyone give me some pointers?
Thanks.

is the Etherboot floppy for?
Please, could someone explain me stupid person these things? Thanks a lot.

simulate PXE boot from Etherboot ROM?
Hi,
is there any way to simulate a PXE boot from an Etherboot ROM? Background:
I am using PXES in a customer project. PXES supports bootsplash only via
pxelinux. The customer machines only have old ISA network cards for which
there appears to be no PXE boot rom so I have to use Etherboot.
Maybe one could build an NBI image from pxelinux.0 somehow ??? Use a newer
etherboot image as a second

pxelinux with localboot + etherboot
Hi,
[I sent this mail again because my previous mail was rejected by ML
for some reason]
This topic is originally from etherboot ML.
When we specify "localboot" for pxelinux loaded from etherboot,
this option doesn't work( it doesn't boot from local harddrive ).
pxelinux returns to PXE with localboot return code but
etherboot doesn't check it.
I was trying to change

pxelinux with localboot and etherboot
Hi,
(this is a topic from etherboot ML).
When we specify "localboot" for pxelinux loaded from etherboot,
this option doesn't work( it doesn't boot from local harddrive ).
I was trying to change etherboot side but it was not easy to me.
So I simply replaced pxelinux local_boot: with isolinux's one
with little modification.
It may be better that pxelinux.cfg also allows to
