RAID 1: missing operating system
Hi all,
I'm trying to setup a RAID-1 with Centos4.2 on HP Netserver E60. The raid
consists of 2 9,1GB SCSI disks.
The partitioning and installation process went smoothly, but after it finished
and rebooting, there is an error: Missing operating system.
The partition is:
/
/home
swap
Bootloader is on device md0.
What could be possibly wrong?
Thank you,

Cannot access printing setup using VNC
Hi all,
I try to VNC to my Centos4.2 located in remote branch office.
When I try to open System Setting > Printing. It ask for root password as
usual, I enter the password, OK, then nothing. The printing setting menu
doesn't show.
Is there any setting I must do to be able to run printing setting using VNC?
Thanks.

Advice on setting up Raid and LVM
Hi all,
I'm setting up Centos4.2 on 2x80GB SATA drives.
The partition scheme is like this:
/boot = 300MB
/ = 9.2GB
/home = 70GB
swap = 500MB
The RAID is RAID 1.
md0 = 300MB = /boot
md1 = 9.2GB = LVM
md2 = 70GB = LVM
md3 = 500MB = LVM
Now, the confusing part is:
1. When creating VolGroup00, should I include all PV (md1, md2, md3)? Then
create the LV.
2. When setting up RAID 1, should I

openssh 1.2pre13 on Linux/i386 RH4.2 problems
Can't compile sshd.c because of pam errors. The errors are attached
below, and I apologize for the >75 chars a line. RH4.2, with the
latest updates, runs pam-0.57-5. I could upgrade PAM from source, but
I'd probably break other programs.
gcc -g -O2 -Wall -I/usr/local/ssl/include -DETCDIR=\"/etc/ssh\" -DSSH_PROGRAM=\"/usr/bin/ssh\"

R-2.01 and RSPerl-0.6.2
Hi,
I am somewhat new to R and RSPerl, but I think this particular problem
has to do with RSPerl and so I am not sure if this is the right forum
to ask for help. Nevertheless I am quite sure that many of you would
have used RSPerl with R.
My hardware platform is a Sun/Solaris V440 server running Solaris 9
operating system I use the gcc-3.4.0 compiler to compile R without any
problems. My

(no subject)
Hello,
I'm looking for some package in Centos which will provide en/decoding of
mime formats. I have over 1000 outlook mails to process, and it would be
great to script that, but centos 4.4 doesn't have a metamail package and
I couldn't find anything connected to decoding and encoding of MIME.
Is there any tool in Centos repository ?
Thanks a lot,

Right now the /etc/sysconfig/vncservers is:

I have vncpasswd for userku and restart vncserver. Then, can I vnc from

2 root disks sdb1,sdc1; if set "root=/dev/sdc1", mtab lies saying sdb1 is root!?
I have 2 SCSI disks each w/a RH 7.3 ext3 root filesystem: /dev/sdb1, and /dev/sdc1.
/dev/sda1 is an old RH4.2 root filesystem. (sdb1 was created as an image of sdc1
using dd.)
I have no problem booting from a SYSLINUX 1.52 floppy with SYSLINUX.CFG
containing "append initrd=initrd.img root=/dev/sdb1".
When I alter SYSLINUX.CFG with:
"append initrd=initrd.img root=/dev/sdc1".

New Centos User - Yum Repositories Question
I've been using Red Hat and its derivatives since RH4.2. I use Fedora
Core 6 for all of my desktop machines, but I decided to go for Centos
5 for my new colo web server.
So I've just taken delivery of a new Centos 5 virtual server from
Bytemark (http://bytemark.co.uk/) and I'm trying to get it set up with
all the RPMs that I'm used to from FC6.
As I understand it, the Centos

Centos vs FC
Hi all,
I hope I'm not starting a flame war.
I'm installing Centos 4.2 for a mail server. I've been experimenting with,
Centos before, and now wanting to put it into a real action as mail server.
Can someone pls tell me the up and down between Centos and FC?
I'm familiar with FC4 and some things that I like from it:
1. The available packages are abundant. Very easy to find

How to test RAID-5
Hi all,
1. Is RAID-5 fault tolerant?
2. I make a RAID-5 array with 3 disk. The /boot is on RAID-1 partition, the
rest are raided 5. When I simulate disk failure by unplugging sda and
restarting Centos. Grub fails in stage 1.5. What is the correct way of
simulating harddisk failure in RAID-5? If I unplug the other drives, it
manages to boot ok.
Thank you.
