PXE booting BartPE ISO file to Eee Pc
So I've been playing with this for hours and still unable to get everything working properly. In short I'm trying to boot an ISO image created by BartPE over pxelinux. When I attempt to do this it goes directly to a blank screen that just has a blinking cursor. Here's what my setup looks like: pebuilder.iso - the ISO file created from BartPE using WinXP SP2 CD as source but with

Using PXE to Boot CD Images?
Is it possible to chain isolinux and memdisk over pxelinux? If it's possible, I'd like to boot a CD Image over the network. I've been using pxelinux to boot ltsp for years, and recently upgraded to take advantage of memdisk for booting a DOS hd-image. Ideally I'd be able to boot a CD-Image. Thoughts? -- <:3)~ Michael T. isolinux + windows installation CD
Hi all, I am at the end of my wits, after a day and a half of mucking around with this :) My intention was to take a multi-boot DVD - of the style you get with an MSDN subscription - and burn an individual installer to disc. How to do this? My theory was to take the files for the installation CD, add isolinux, add a bootsector, and away I go. Unfortunately it doesn't seem this easy. So I

Incompatibility using pxelinux 3.80 or later and setupldr.exe from windows XP 32 bits
Hello I'm working on my RIS server; I got a problem when I use pxelinux.0 to load setupldr.exe from windows XP 32bits (both home and corporate) Here is how I configure a working server, then how to modify it to reproduce the bug: ========================= I suppose you got -a dhcp server configured to load pxelinux.0 to client computer. -a working tftp server (mine is tftpd-hpa, with a rule

SYSLINUX 3.00-pre8: Let's try this release thing again
Okay, spending the time to dot t's and cross i's (or something like that), I think I have something now that can be called 3.00-worthy, so let's call it a release candidate. Changes over the earlier 3.00 prereleases: - -m and -a options now supported by the DOS installer. - PXELINUX now allows IP addresses, FQDNs, and truncated hostnames when specifying an alternate TFTP server

Translating Lilo to syslinux and (isolinux)
I have a Lilo.conf file, which I have tried for many hours to convert to Syslinux. I looked around on the web for references on translating some of the components. I want to convert it to Syslinux/Isolinux. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. When I tried to convert it I made sure that the kernel and initrd had proper DOS names and such. -Michael =:LILO.CONF:= prompt timeout=10

How to boot a compressed CD-ROM image from disk
I'd like to take advantage of the small, compressed Linux systems such as Knoppix or BeatrIX, but I can't have a CD rom on my system. (A project's marketing requirement.). So I figure I could use something like SYSLINUX or ISOLINUX to do it for me, but there is some magic in the process (the sequence of booting) that eludes me. 1/ mbr (from SYSLINUX) installed on hard drive... and

Planning a 2.08 release
It seems that quite a bit of stuff built up very quickly after the 2.07 release: Changes from 2.07 to 2.08-pre6: * Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout to have a different action than just pressing Enter. * Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom command to be executed in case the kernel image is

Patch for chain.c32: Set default boot drive to CD drive from which ISOLINUX is booted
chain.c32 of SYSLINUX 3.82 does set the boot drive passed to the DL register to 0x80 and not to the boot drive (CD-drive). This can be a problem if you want to chainload grldr (grub4dos bootloader) from a CD and if you want to let grldr search for its menu.lst file on the CD. For more info: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8457 This 1 line patch fixes the issue (Thanks to

Incompatibility using pxelinux 3.81 or later and setupldr.exe from windows XP 32 bits
I did 2 zip files containing each: - a working tftp-root with syslinux 3.75 - a not working tftp-root wit syslinux 3.81 They have ben build and tested using the instructions given in my first message. The bug appears starting syslinux 3.81, NOT 3.80 (I tried too many versions) The zip files are available here: http://t.bugier.free.fr/tftp-root--fail.zip

SYSLINUX 3.00-pre9 released
I have just released SYSLINUX 3.00-pre9. The only change versus 3.00-pre8 is that the MEMDISK query API now reports the boot loader ID byte, per Bernd's suggestion. This is a release candidate, and I plan to release it as 3.00 *tomorrow*, unless I hear back anything bad. -hpa

Testing Syslinux on Mazza PT-5VMD
Hi All, I was testing syslinux floppy on a Mazza MotherBoard, his chipset is VIA MVP3 (VT82C598MVP, VT82C586B), and Winbond W83877F/TF. After reading the floppy, I see 'boot failed', I have to ide disk in the system, only flash device. I used the -s option to build the floppy. Does Somebody know if the chipset is supported? I tested the floppy on toshiba laptop and it works very fine.

special boot disk.
I have been asked to build a Linux Installation lab. The lab has to support the installation of SUSE Enterprise 8, Red Hat (Industrial strength), Fedora, Debian and Mandrake and probably a couple of others. Here is the catch: 1. The machine(s) will only have a virtual floppy attached so installation will be via network (we?ll supply the mirror). 2. It must be completely automatic ? one floppy
