Booting firmware harddisk image with memdisk fails
Hi,
I once again have a problem with memdisk failing to boot a harddisk image
to update my Thinkpad X200s firmware. I extracted the harddisk image
from the eltorito type 4 ISO using the isobar tool.
Then I added memdisk using this image as initrd to my grub, rebooted and it
boots into PC DOS and then freezes (ctrl-alt-del still works to reboot the
system).
Inside Qemu however it works fine

Adding memdisk or similar when booting linux
Hi
Thanx guys for the help on understanding howto read dmi info!
I now have a custom boot menu for install of different linux versions based if they have been installed before (reinstall is ok for users, first install is not), and installquirks like if we detect odd hardware, we add install options to redhat installer so it can install anyhow (for instance hp dc7800 who needs pci=nommconf as

memdisk - reboot loaded image
Is there a method to reboot a memdisk (floppy) image?
I'm working on a DOS-based installation floppy that needs to repartition the hard disk
prior to proceeding. DOS will only recognize the updated partition table after a reboot, but
I'd like to be able to save information to the currently loaded memdisk floppy disk and
simply reboot the image. Possible?
I haven't had any luck with

memdisk 1680K floppy support
Hi,
I was wondering if 1680K floppy support in memdisk was planned, impossible
or undesirable :) I noticed RIP is providing a slightly more stuffed 1680K
floppy (but no 2880K floppy) and I had hoped memdisk could support this.
Kind regards,

memdisk and OS/2
Has anyone managed to get OS/2 to fully boot via Syslinux's memdisk?
I have played around with it a bit both as a floppy image and a hard
disk image, but either it hangs when loading IBMINT13.I13 driver or
doesn't load any .ADD driver and stops saying it cannot find COUNTRY.SYS
(it needs at
least one .ADD disk driver loaded before it can continue accessing the
boot device).

Memdisk + Loadlin.exe
Can I boot to memdisk using loadlin.exe? I saw that there were references to loadlin in the memdisk init.S (at least in the 2.04 version) so I thought it would be possible. If there's some resource that I can refer to I'd love to know that.

Sorry if this is a FAQ, I looked through the digest some before I joined this list, but I didn't see anything there

Laptop+SDMMC+Extlinux+Memdisk+Floppy images=headaches
Hello syslinuxers
I'm stuck with a scientific problem which gives me headaches:
I have a laptop (Gateway MX3410) which has a SD memory card reader.
Recently an interesting thought crossed my mind: why don't I setup
a 2GB SD card as a harddrive and put some rescue tools on it.
So I dug on the net and I came across the idea of using memdisk
to boot floppy images without the need of a

Bug-report: Booting DOS images from USB
Hi,
I'm doing a small hobby project writing some tools to put DOS boot images
and Linux rescue images on a USB stick.
For this I have partitioned my USB stick in 2 partitions, one 192MB
partition with a VFAT filesystem (for the normal use) and a second
partition with an ext3 filesystem.
My aim was to provide a graphical menu (grub) to access the different
images using memdisk. Since

Booting LINUX from external USB Hard Drive
Hi,
I would like to boot a LINUX system from an external USB Hard Drive.
Motherboard (ASUS P4P800) supports boot from USB with or without floppy
emulation. Is it possible to use syslinux for booting without any floppy
or CD, just from the external USB drive?

Modify memdisk to mask/overlay start of hard drive
I have a somewhat unique problem I am trying to solve that requires me
to temporarily replace the first 63s of the main hard drive and boot
the result. Basically, I am hoping it is possible to modify memdisk to
serve requests for the first 63 sectors from a ram disk and pass other
requests through to the hard drive. There will never be a read
spanning the two, so I don't need it to be able to

win98 on a second hard drive
Is it possible to configure syslinux.cfg on a floppy to start Win98 on a secondary hard drive? If so, how is this done?
Currently I have Linux and Win98 on the primary hard drive, and when I attempt to use the floppy to start Win98 on the second hard drive, I simply start Win98 on the first drive. I have tried many different approaches, all to no avail, and I would really appreciate some

Hard disk image to use with Memdisk
Hallo
I would like to have an image of about 8Mb to boot with ISOLINUX and
MEMDISK. I am not able to create an image complete of the MBR, as MEMDISK
requires. I think I should emulate an 8Mb disk in memory or on a file, but I
am able to do so only for a 'single partition'. Could you please suggest me
a way to obtain the image? I can use Linux or Windows tools, it does not
matter.

Syslinux 3.83 released
Hi all,
I have just released Syslinux 3.83. Special thanks to my employer,
Intel, for letting me spend time on this.
It is somewhat of a meager release despite four months, as most of the
work has gone into the future-work branches.
-hpa
Changes in 3.83:
* PXELINUX: clear memory before handing over to a chainloaded
NBP. This may help avoid a bug in Windows RIS.

flashing bios & memdisk
hi,
i've seen that there already have been some
messages to bios flash via memdisk image.
i also had some problem with that. the programmer
of "UNIFLASH" told me, that memdisk is using
protected mode and this should be a problem,
because uniflash only works with real mode.
i've found i amiflash that works with protected
mode and with this i can flash the bios. [with memdisk]

Standard file extensions for zipped floppy images
Hi,
I was wondering what's the best standard file extension for zipped DOS
disk images and ramdisks. I've been using the following standard:
.zi kernels, memtest86, memdisk
.igz .img.gz zipped floppy images and ramdisks
I'd rather have a different extension for ramdisks, maybe
.zim zipped floppy images
.zrd zipped ramdisks
Any ideas ?
It would also be nice if syslinux

Odd question: memdisk emulate multiple drives?
Is it possible to have memdisk emulate multiple drives?
Here's why I'm asking: I have a Dell server that I replaced the
motherboard. I want to reset the service tag to the correct tag for the
system, and the only way to do that is to run a Dell tool under DOS. I
have downloaded the tool, but it is doubly-wrapped: a self-extracting
ZIP file (which I unzipped under Linux) which contains a

Can anyone please tell me how to create a bootable 10MB hard disk image

DOS.
Thanks.
