Boot with Grub the installation of FreeBSD_6.2 from an floppy image.
Hi, I have 2 partition o my HD: /dev/hda1 e /dev/hda2 . In /dev/hda2 there is Suse_10.1, /dev/hda1 is empty, and in the MBR there is Grub. Normally, FreeBSD can be installed from a CD or a floppy, but I haven't neither a cd device nor a floppy device. So, I want run the installation of FreeBSD_6.2 from a floppy image. In this thread there is an idea, but I didn't understand it.

Bug#368417: xen-hypervisor-3.0-i386: cannot start NetBSD-HEAD
Package: xen-hypervisor-3.0-i386 Version: 3.0.2+hg9681-1 Severity: important Have been trying to get NetBSD to run under debian unstable with the debian supplied hypervisor. Using the 3.0.2-2 hypervisor supplied by XenSource, it works just fine. Because the install process overrides other things, reverified with debian hypervisor afterwards and symptom continues. Attaching the netbsd.cfg and the

[leaf-user] RE: CF Boot media creation
I'm home at last. I did a mixture of things. I downloaded DOS6.22 floppy from putergeeks.com, extracted my old syslinux 1.75 (dos version) into the same boot floppy and made my CF /dev/hda1 as suggested by Luis (Hail O King - my saviour). Lo and behold it went thro' like a hot knife thro' butter. syslinux did not complain at all. I did an xcopy /s of my D: (hard disk) to my C:(CF) and

getting ext3 on suse-7.3? (long post)
greetings. i have been three days now trying to add ext3 to an existing suse-7.3 machine. i am using suse's own 2.4.13 kernel source. here is what i have done: following install, i ran tune2fs -j /dev/hda2 (also hda3 and hda4). .journal files were created on each partition, apparently uneventfully. wishing to avoid ai irreversable situation, i initially edited /etc/fstab thusly:

[leaf-user] FW: CF Boot media creation
I downloaded DOS6.22 image from putergeek.com. Used fdisk from that floppy and format from that floppy. Still no luck. If I execute fdisk under leaf (monkeynoodle.org) as fdisk/dev/hdc, and give p for print partition table, I get the following: Disk /dev/hdc: 16 heads, 32 sectors, 123 cylinders. Units = cylinders of 512 * 512 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hdc1

Reinstalled Windows and GRUB - Cannot boot Linux - fstab and grub.conf errors?
Background: This is a dual boot (Windows XP and CentOS 5.2 (32 bit) box. There were four (4) NTFS partitions. The C partition got full. I deleted the 4 NTFS partitions and did a clean install of Windows XP, into one (1) NTFS partition. I knew that I would need to install GRUB again and I did that, using the CentOS 5 Installation DVD. When I tried to boot into Linux, no joy. this is the GRUB error

Problems in CF Boot creation using SYSLINUX
Latest syslinux 2.00 stable version from freshmeat. Are the programs that will just copy boot sectors or create boot sectors for /dev/hda1, /dev/hda2 etc.. that I can simply copy with a dd command? booting from copied ext3 software raid fs to normal fs
Hello. I am trying to boot CentOS 4 from a copy of an ext3 software RAID 1 filesystem (md) which has been copied to a normal ext3 filesystem (hd). I am almost getting there, exept that the system hangs after booting the kernel. I copied the datas from the /boot and / partitions to two similar partitions on the backuped disk with mirrordir (can also be done with cp or dd). I have setup the new

[leaf-user] RE: CF Boot media creation
Hi, I had the same problem last week. I got it work when I used an old syslinux (the one from Daschtein Utils). I think that the problem is with newest version of syslinux, but could get confirmation from the syslinux group. Nick "S Mohan" wrote: > > I'm home at last. I did a mixture of things. CentOS 5 Beta Dual Boot Problem
To test CentOS 5, I loaded from DVD adding it to a system at home running Fedora Core 7 T2. Partition Layout is: /dev/hda1 - / for the RH7T2 system /dev/hda2 - /home /dev/hda3 - swap /dev/hda4 - extended /dev/hda5 - / for CentOS 5 The system loaded cleanly and gave me the opportunity to tell grub about the other system. CentOS boots fine. Grub Stage 2 will show me both systems.

Problem with data=journal on root file system.
I am using RedHat 7.2 w/ kernel 2.4.7-10. My / filesystem is configured as ext3. I want to change it to use data=journaled instead of ordered. If I mount it from a boot floppy, it mounts fine. (mount /dev/hda2 /mnt -t ext3 -o data=journal). I have attempted to find the correct procedure to start it up as journaled from grub to no avail. I have created a new initrd image that works fine with

Install CentOS on Partition(!)-images as a Xen-guest
Hi! Some weeks ago the "Running Xen"-book was recommended to me on this list. A nice book, but it gave me crazy idea: One of the recommendations (which sounds very reasonable to me) was to have instead of a single file that serves as a disk-image to have to files: one of them (which is mounted to hda1) serves as a partition that holds the data, the other one (which mounts to hda2) is

RH 7.2 installation - login error - FS problems?
Hello, This might be a bit off-topic, and I apologize. But I think this might be a FS problem I'm having with ext3 (but I'm not sure). I finally got RH 7.2 to install on my new box. The box looks like: Epox 8KHA+ motherboard (KT 266A chipset) 512 Meg DDR DRAM WD 200BB HD S3 Savage 2000 64 Meg card (set at AGP 4x) NEC 5FGp monitor Intel NIC CD floppy I partitioned the HD to look

Filesystems, GRUB, weirdness, oh my! [long]
I am using SystemImager to auto-install about 500 different machines, some of them are CentOS; as you can Imagine I want to automate the installation of the bootloader; so I wrote a 2 scripts to accomplish this task. Why two? Because some of the machines are IDE, and some of them are SATA, and I need to be able to use the same disk image on both of the drive types. Here is the first bash script:
