Compact Flash hard drives
Has anyone worked with either the Hitachi or Seagate Compact flash drives in an IDE to CF interface and set the up with EXT3 formatted partitions for use with LVM? I ASSuME that LVM is not for FAT32 formatted drives.

Booting from Compact Flash
Hi all, Advance apologies if this is OT; if so, please mail me offlist. A client is considering using CentOS5.1 for an embedded project. They will be booting from Compact Flash. The CF in the device is being controlled by a VIA VT6421 SATA/RAID controller. Are there drivers available or must we truly 'roll our own' when compiling the 2.6x kernel for this? I've done some

Cloning a ZFS compact flash card
I need some help please. I am currently using a compact flash as the boot drive (ZFS) on a thumper. I want to create a clone of it to a file and restore it to a new CF card on another thumper. Unfortunately, an exact make, model and size of the CF has a few less cylinders so a straight dd of the slice2 does not work. Now I have to navigate the intricacies of the trying to clone rpool etc, which

How hard to create Asterisk for Compact Flash?
I am aware of Astlinux and the other embedded Asterisk solutions out there? Astlinux is nice but the problem is that when I hit a snag and need to incorporate a patch and what not I cannot do that with Astlinux because I cannot compile my own version. How hard is it to create my own version of Linux/Asterisk to run on Compact Flash. I have seen 1GB Sandisk CF for as low as $50 recently so small

compact flash, fat, reduced knoppix and syslinux
Hi. I've recently picked up a 256MB compact flash card and CF->IDE adapter. I'm wanting to put a smaller version of knoppix on here. I came across miniknoppix here: http://www.inittab.org and decided to have a play around with that. So far I have opened up the ISO image and copied all the files out. I have put a boot sector onto the CF by putting the CF into the IDER adpater then

Compact Flash, EXT3, and IDE - a bad idea?
Hi All, I'm currently running an embedded linux system (arm) with a CF card mounted as EXT3. I'll copy some system details below... Anyway, I'm getting some drive errors and I'm wondering if they're due to bad/old drivers, something with EXT3 and CF latency, or something else entirely. These are the errors: hda: write_intr error1: nr_sectors=1, stat=0x51 hda:

Supporting WinImage compressed images
I am using PXELINUX, ISOLINUX, and memdisk in my project (http://unattended.sourceforge.net/). When memdisk gained support for compressed images, I started using it because it is cool. I used gzip to compress floppy.img to create floppy.imz, and all was good. But now my users are complaining that they cannot use WinImage (a Windows floppy image editing tool) to edit my floppy.imz files. I have

Centos5 NFS install from loop-back mounted DVD image fails
NFS install from a loop-back mounted DVD image fails for me when it actually tries to start the RPM install process. I come to the point where anaconda checks the package dependencies, then it tells that the install process will be started in some minutes and the last thing I see is a message similar to: Preparing transaction from install media. Then this message box disappears and the install

rsync of big image files from virtual hosts takes lot of time
Hi, i'd like to rsync some image files from virtual hosts each night. The image files are between 50GB and 400GB big. I thought rsync would be the appropriate solution because it just transfers the differences, not the whole file. But nevertheless rsync takes hours. The images aren't much modified over the day, i would expect just some tens of megabyte needed to be transfered. I have the

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre14 released, release candidate
This release includes Murali's menu positioning patch; it is otherwise identical to 2.09-pre13. I will release this as 2.09 on Sunday unless I hear objections. Note that I've effectively been out of the loop, moving houses, for almost a month, so if there is something I'm forgetting please tell me... -hpa

required entries in ldap for samba...
Hi... I sucesfully linked my samba install with a ldap database, and smbpasswd -a works with user adds, etc. But - I know that in order to join the domain from WIN2K and XP I need to provide a username/password - exactly what ldif entries are needed in my ldap db for that? Is it 'administrator' with a uid of 0 - Can I use smbpasswd to make this, or ldif/ldapadd? Thanks.... --

SYSLINUX.CFG not readed
Hello list. I have configured a Linux box for booting from a Compact Flash instead of a Hard Disk, this is an IDE CF, Syslinux is on the MBR because it loads, when I put the the kernel file named as linux as it expects i load it but when I rename it expecting it to load the SYSLINUX.CFG it does not load the menu as I would like, I will put two images on that Compact flash in order to boot from
