Booting using single image file
Howdy,
I know that syslinux doesn't currently support this, but does anyone
here know how I might go about getting some sort of boot process
together that would have a single firmware image as opposed to seperate
files for initrd, kernel, and root fs?
Thanks.

standalone bootable usb-stick
hi ya syslinuxerz
- i've been slowly working on a making a custom bootable
standalone usb-stick with X11 and kde
- it's basically builds itself off of a slackware-10.1 server
- create a custom initrd.gz ( /dev/ram0 )
http://linux-boot.net/Bootable/InitRD/
- create a custom rootfs.gz ( /dev/loop0 )
http://linux-boot.net/Bootable/RootFS/
- create X11 and kde loopfiles

Xen0 crash dump (/dev/ram0 root) possibly of interest
I''m continuing to work on making a new XenCD as previously discussed here. In
the course of that work, I''ve generated (actually, currently stuck on) the
enclosed crash dump. Thought I''d forward it for interest.
To head off questions, you''ll see references to a very large initrd (~114 Mb).
The Xen dump may or not be related to this unusual usage.

Isolinux 4.02
I am running isolinux 4.02 and ramdisk_size does not seem to have an effect on the ramdisk size. No matter what I set it to in the isolinux.cfg file it seems the limit is 32768. I get the error:

EXT2-fs error (device ram0):

Translating Lilo to syslinux and (isolinux)
I have a Lilo.conf file, which I have tried for many hours to convert to
Syslinux. I looked around on the web for references on translating some
of the components. I want to convert it to Syslinux/Isolinux.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. When I tried to convert it
I made sure that the kernel and initrd had proper DOS names and such.

attempt to access beyond end of device and livelock
Hi Dongyang, Yan,
When testing BTRFS with RAID 0 metadata on linux-3.3, we see discard
ranges exceeding the end of the block device [1], potentially causing
dataloss; when this occurs, filesystem writeback becomes catatonic due
to continual resubmission.
The reproducer is quite simple [2]. Hope this proves useful...
Thanks,
Daniel

Can't boot NT floppy
Hi,
Thanks a lot for your exceptional work.... I guess many people dealing with
bootable CD's just could'nt do anything without isolinux...
However I've got a small problem.
In fact the problem is maybe due to my BIOS (Phoenix on an HP Vectra VL800),
and maybe due to isolinux / memdisk, I don't know.
Generally speaking, take any floppy, format it under Win2K, copy from your

Syslinux & DiskonChip 2000 boo error.
Good afternoon.
I am trying to make a 32M DiskonChip2000 boot Linux (kernel version 2.2.20)
but I'm having difficulty.
It begins fine, loading most of the kernel, but halts immediately after the
"Freeing unused kernel memory: 52K freed." step. The implication seems to
be that my ramdisk is not being mounted/executed properly.
My syslinux.cfg file is as follows:

probs running stuff from initrd
Hello all
Now I may be way of whack here, so please forgive me.
I''m trying to merge xen with redhat''s config-netboot. The idea being a
kinda stateless domU. For those that haven''t seen you share a rootfs and
then bind mount all the individual files over then top, and the redhat
gui builds all the pxeboot config and stuff for you if you want a
diskless client. I

Issue with timeout option?
I have a project g4l that uses syslinux and have been working on the next
version. I installed the 3.74 pre5, and it worked just fine. But I was doing a
test, and booted the systems, and usually pick the default kerenel or one of
the other kernels on the CD before it times out with 60 seconds. But this
time, I didn't do that. It loaded the default kernel with no problem, but then

maximum number of characters in APPEND
There is a maximum of 255 characters of parameters you can pass to the
kernel.
At least that's what I recall, but I may be wrong.
