PXE boot question
Hi, not sure this is the right mailing-list but I'll appreciate any help/suggestion I can get on this. I'm trying to setup a diskless cluster. I have a master with NFS, DHCP, TFTP services running. I have installes syslinux 2.07 so I can use pxelinux to boot the clients via PXE. I've installed one of the clients with an hard drive and Linux on it (redhat 8). Compiled and clean up

pxelinux takes too long trying all the config file options
Hi All, I have a situation where I want to netboot and ONLY use pxelinux.cfg/default. It seems to take FOREVER for pxelinux to try all of the config file file options before falling through to default .... trying each possible combination multiple times ... increasing the wait time everytime it doesn't get a response. >From my log: Apr 2 19:53:17 helium tftpd[3372124]: tftpd: trying to

Other clients work in this environment with out any problem. The client is a HP xw4300 with the networkcard: ------------ vendor = "Broadcom Corporation" name = "NetXtreme BCM5752

PXELinux Kernel NFS Root Errors
Hi This is a PXELinux problem that I'm facing. The problem, in brief, is that I have a set of diskless nodes (AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 256MB RAM) connected via an internal 172.20.0.0/24 network to a dual AMD Opteron running SuSE Linux 8.3 for AMD64. I want the remote machines to diskless boot off the main server and run independently. The diskless machines have a PXE-compliant BIOS for

Recursive pxelinux.0 and pxelinux.cfg directories.
I am trying to set a uniform PXE environment to load multiple distros. RHEL 5.1 and 4.7 SUSE 10.2 and 11 Solaris 10 X86 Window Multiple server versions.... - Why? Because I am in hell. What I want is to have an upper level pxelinux.0 call the default menu directories that come with the releases. Is there a way to call pxelinux.0 and point it at a different pxelinux.cfg directory?

Thanks for pxelinux & memdisk
This message is from Luis F. Correia, who unfortunately could not post it himself to the list.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Hi! I would like to thank you, H. Peter Anvin for creating this wonderful set of tools. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of proper examples in the docs. Syslinux and affiliates would certainly improve

RedHat kickstart with PXELINUX [A small change for pxelinux]
It looks like someone else also has the same problem: http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/syslinux/2002-September/000848.html I don't know much about Intel i386 asm. Otherwise, I will send a patch :-). H.J. ----- Forwarded message from "H. J. Lu" <hjl at lucon.org> ----- I am using pxelinux to do RedHat kickstart install. I ran into a problem. Both pxelinux and kickstart use

PXELinux cfg file problem
Hi I am trying to set up a thin client. I have managed to set up DHCP and TFTP on a Fedora Core 6 server but the problem is when PXELinux on the client tries to load the configuration file. I get the message: Trying to load: pxelinux.cfg/01-00-0c-29-ca-7a-ce Trying to load: pxelinux.cfg/0A000014 etc.. Trying to load: pxelinux.cfg/default Unable to locate configuration file If I use a TFTP

RH8.0 kernel lockup with PXELinux on x440
Howdy. We've got a couple IBM x440 (Summit) 8-way Xeon systems that I've been trying to get netbooting for a while. Since we use Kickstart and SystemImager to load OSes on our systems, a system has to be able to netboot before it can be made available to folks for project use. System BIOS is the current one, v1.08. They're booting from a planar BroadCom Tigon3 adapter. BIOS

pxelinux: HW Address instead of ip
Hi there, for our setup it would be nice to have pxelinux trying to load files like /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/00:80:C8:6D:EE:7F instead of something like /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/0A010708 The reason is, that with this setup I would be able to boot a machine in different networks be means of dhcp and dynamic DNS updates. I saw, in pxelinux.doc, that this is no Problem using ISC dhcp and doing this on

Serial console with pxelinux on Soekris net4501
Hello, I have a Soekris net4501, which I'm PXE booting using pxelinux. Everything seems to be working splendidly, except for the fact that I can't seem to make pxelinux understand use the net4501's serial console port correctly. The net4501 uses the serial console as its primary interface; I'm using a null modem cable and minicom to operate with it. At boot, its startup

pxelinux aborts booting
Hi, i try booting a PXE equipped client with pxelinux. The problem is: after receiving the file pxelinux.0 it requests pxelinux.cfg/C0A86451 and aborts. tcpdump: .... 16:01:58.786946 192.168.100.81.2073 > saturn.1337: udp 4 16:01:58.787033 saturn.1337 > 192.168.100.81.2073: udp 516 (DF) 16:01:58.787202 192.168.100.81.2073 > saturn.1337: udp 4 16:01:58.787528 saturn.1337 >

Problem with pxelinux 5.0 and memtest
Hello, This is my first post to this list. After searching through the archives and google searches I could not find a solution for my memtest problem. In previous versions of pxelinux/gpxelinux (4.04 and 4.06) I could successfully start the memtest utility. But using pxelinux/gpxelinux versions 5.01 and 5.02 the memtest utility does not boot and I get an error message: boot: Loading

installing only pxelinux?
I've been using pxelinux since version 3 (way back when Fedora was new and RedHat was still free :-) ) but looking at the more modern releases I have a sinking feeling I've "just been doing it wrong" all these years. E.g. back then I'd download the syslinux tarball, copy pxelinux.0, menu.c32, and maybe memdisk to /tftpboot/ and that was pretty much it. I don't recall

[PXELinux 5.01] BUG: "unable to locate configuration file" if directory tftpboot/syslinux exists
Hi, I'm using PXELinux (on Windows NT5.x, with Windows NT5.x tftpd and the PXE server included in the "Windows XP Embedded Remote Boot Server"). This works well here since more than 10 years now. Recently I created a subdirectory "syslinux" in my "tftpboot" ... and PXELINUX failed with the message "unable to locate configuration file". Renaming that

Special dhcp options and PXElinux
Hi I am trying to enable my dhcpd and pxelinux setup to use a specific config file for a booting client. I have read the pxelinux page for this (http://syslinux.zytor.com/pxe.php#special) but still seem to be encountering problems. When running the dhcpd with the '-d' debug option the daemon sees the DHCPDISCOVER from the client and then core dumps. On the client side the DHCPDISCOVER

Pxelinux image filename oddity?
Hello Sir, (This applies to the RH8.0 supplied syslinux 1.75-3 and the upgraded tftp-server-0.32-1 from RH Rawhide) I'm having fun remotebooting my ViA EPIA box (an ITX form-factor 800MHz ViA C3 semi-embedded pc), and have landed on pxeboot as the 'best tool for the job'. Right now I have it working, but the documentation found elsewhere on the web has confused me. Specifically,
