Memdisk + Freedos problem
I and some other people have problems with running the freedos image included in
Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD), when using memdisk for floppy emulation.
Memdisk starts booting the image and freedos shows the following menu:
0 Boot Clean
1 Boot UMBPCI (silent)
2 Boot UMBPCI (optimal)
3 Boot UMBPCI (semi-defensive)
4 Boot EMM386 (optimal)
5 Boot EMM386 (semi-defensive)
6 Boot no UMB (defensive)

Last call before syslinux 2.08
I am planning to release SYSLINUX 2.08 in the next day or so; basically
2.08-pre9 without any further changes.
So, I would appreciate any and all testers for this...

Memdisk/XMS bug, big floppy image

I'm using a 5MB image which emulates floppydisk.

PXELINUX keeppxe mem footprint
Hi,
I want to use PXELINUX to load a DOS disk image which I currently use for
Win2K/XP unattended installs. I want to move away from reliance on specific
NDIS2 drivers and use the 3Com UNDIS3C driver instead. I have used this
successfully to start the MSClient, but the problem is that the UNDI and PXE
layer take about 90K of base memory, which means that WINNT.EXE has
insufficent memory to run

Bug-report: Booting DOS images from USB
Hi,
I'm doing a small hobby project writing some tools to put DOS boot images
and Linux rescue images on a USB stick.
For this I have partitioned my USB stick in 2 partitions, one 192MB
partition with a VFAT filesystem (for the normal use) and a second
partition with an ext3 filesystem.
My aim was to provide a graphical menu (grub) to access the different
images using memdisk. Since

[memdisk] collision between memdisk and emm386 (FreeDOS)
Hi
I'm using memdisk as part of CD Shell' isolinux. I've created custom floppy
disk image 8440kB size. I've put FreeDOS kernel and bootsector into the
floppy. Boot process goes fine with this command:
isolinux /boot/memdisk initrd=/ximg/fdos.img c=60 h=8 s=36 floppy
The problems begin when I try to run FreeDOS memory manager emm386 from the
floppy image.

Any workaround for ThinkPad memdisk?
Hi,
I saw the Nov. 2006 message on Memdisk having a problem with ThinkPads. I also
saw the comment in the memdisk code enabling and disabling A20.
I've got a ThinkPad x61t that memdisk is not loading disk images on. The
symptom is that it gets as far as saying "Loading boot sector... booting..."
Then image partially runs - FreeDOS prints out its kernel message and it's

Booting an ISO with FreeDOS over PXE with memdisk
I've got $SUBJ almost working except for the DOS bit where the CD needs
to be read.
My pxe config:
label Firmware
menu label Update IPMI firmware
kernel memdisk
append keeppxe raw iso initrd=<isofile>
The ISO is about 400Mb, and works fine when I boot it from an actual
CDROM drive. It also boots fine over PXE, I can see FreeDOS being
booted up etc. The problem is - once

memdisk : booting OpenBSD and NetBSD
hi there.
I'm trying to boot several OSes floppy images from a cdrom via memdisk.
Actually, Linux and FreeBSD boots fine, but, while i'm using the same method,
I couldn't get into booting netbsd nor openbsd.
The boot process seems to hang up, in those two cases, when the second stage
native bootloader try to load the kernel (i'm not absolutely sure about this).
The native first

Laptop+SDMMC+Extlinux+Memdisk+Floppy images=headaches
Hello syslinuxers
I'm stuck with a scientific problem which gives me headaches:
I have a laptop (Gateway MX3410) which has a SD memory card reader.
Recently an interesting thought crossed my mind: why don't I setup
a 2GB SD card as a harddrive and put some rescue tools on it.
So I dug on the net and I came across the idea of using memdisk
to boot floppy images without the need of a

ISOLinux and OpenBSD?
>+ booting floppy34.fs image from the CD works correctly (no ISOLinux, in
>built BIOS emulates the floppy)
Hi,
have you tried the following (Isolinux direct emulation):
KERNEL 34FS.IMG
should function the same as if direct 1.44MB eltorito emulation was used.
but using MEMDISK it fails?
KERNEL MEMDISK
APPEND INITRD=34FS.IMG
that's all I can come up with .

Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
This isn't an esp urgent issue, but I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on

some issues with modules/syslinux
Dear Syslinux bootloader list,
I'm running into a few issues concerning Syslinux modules here, hoping
you can answer one or more of the following questions:
* Where's "ifmemdsk.c32" ? 4.05, 4.06pre1 and latest 4.10pre seem to
lack it. Only the "ifmemdsk.c" file, which is likely sourcecode. Not
seeing any "ifmemdsk.cbt" legacy comboot module.

Pxelinux/memdisk with XP "MS-DOS" boot disk
I'm trying to use this universal DOS TCP/IP boot disk available here:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~bdriver/bootdisk/
It requires an MS-DOS formatted disk created by Windows XP. It works great as a floppy but doesn't boot at all with memdisk. The problem can be simplified down to just the XP boot disk. If you make an MS-DOS startup disk with XP on a floppy, dd the floppy to an image

MEMDISK issue with OptiPlex GX280,620
Good day to you, too. No worries about the delay. I understand how busy everyone is with SYSLINUX. Gladly, the project continues to develop and improve. With that said, thanks for today's flurry of activity regarding my reported problem.
Impressively, the debug version of MEMDISK that you had directed me to use appears to have done the trick. Results below.

pxelinux+memdisk experience & problem..
hi:
i try to make some images for pxelinux+memdisk.
the version i try is 2.0.6 and 2.0.7pre5
for 2.88M floppy image, first i make a 1.44M boot floopy,
then use "winimage" to load the disk and transfer it to
2.88M format, then save the image. it seems a easy way to make
a 2.88M boot image.
for harddisk image, i use vmware to build a virtual machine
with 20M harddisk, make it boot

Helle,
I'm facing a strange issue with memdisk
The context :
syslinux 3.75

the gpxe stript called from a menu executed through menu.c32 :
#!gpxe
kernel /modules/memdisk initrd=/freedos
initrd /freedos
The output before the freeze :
/boot.gpxe. ok
/modules/memdisk. ok
/freedos...... ok

memdisk: DOS as a PreOS
Hello!
Is it possible to load a virtual DOS Floppy with memdisk to do a few
things (e.g. scan for viruses, copy a hard disk image from the network
to the local disk) and continue booting from the local hard disk without
a reboot?
Cheers

Disabling MEMDISK
I have added instructions to memdisk.doc for how to disable MEMDISK.
However, it's unlikely that this will work if you're running under DOS,
since DOS will be very unhappy about drives changing underneath it.
Anyway, until the next (pre)release comes out, here are the instructions:
