More features in Syslinux 2.08
As far as I know the only thing close to that, is to boot DOS from a floppy image (stored on the CD). The floppy image will contain the CD drivers and hence you can use DOS to access the contents of the CD. The floppy image is usually stored in the "boot sector" of the CD, or if you are using utilities like ISOLINUX, then they can be stored on the CD, and ISOLINUX/memdisk can boot

SYSLINUX 2.08-pre5 released
Goodness, how many prereleases has there been in the last week... have lost count... Anyway, I have implemented the already-promised chainbooting API, and have included a sample program to chainboot floppies (it works for harddisks too, but only for the MBR.) As a bonus, in the process I actually discovered that booting .bs/.bss images under SYSLINUX was actually broken... that has been

SYSLINUX 2.08 released
It's pretty much the same as 2.08-pre11. 2.08 mostly a collection of minor enhancements. Changes in 2.08: * Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout to have a different action than just pressing Enter. * Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom command to be executed in case the kernel image is not

Planning a 2.08 release
It seems that quite a bit of stuff built up very quickly after the 2.07 release: Changes from 2.07 to 2.08-pre6: * Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout to have a different action than just pressing Enter. * Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom command to be executed in case the kernel image is

SYSLINUX 2.08-pre3 released
I just found a rather embarrassing bug in PXELINUX -- and what's worse -- I wrote an email about it and killed it off accidentally :-/ It appears PXELINUX doesn't free its internal socket buffers (it has 32 of them) when it gets an error reply from the server, including "file not found." This means it will eventually run out of sockets and "go deaf." This

SYSLINUX 2.08-pre1 released
Working on fixing lower-priority bugs that I didn't want to risk destabilizing the 2.07 release for: Changes in 2.08: * Add "timeoutcmd" to allow timeout to have a different action than just pressing Enter. * Fix bugs in the COMBOOT/COM32 command-line parsing. APPEND now works with COMBOOT/COM32 images.

SYSLINUX 2.09-pre4
I have just released SYSLINUX 2.09-pre4 with a few changes: a) SYSLINUX should now correctly handle mode changes from within a COMBOOT program. b) Tweaks to the menu system to avoid the "grey text on black" problem. c) A new color scheme for the menu system (Murali, check it out and see if you think it works for you.) ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/

Patch to menu.c32 from syslinux 3.20
Hi, I'm attaching a patch to Syslinux dealing with a handful of issues that were preventing me from using the simple menu interface. Issues covered: * Enable "MENU ONERROR" as a keyword on par with "ONERROR". * Enable hidden menu entries to be used as ontimeout and onerror entries (probably the least estheticalla pleasing part, sorry about that.) * Make global

[GIT PULL] elflink fixes
Peter, Paulo reported some problems with his config files under ISOLINUX and PXELINUX - basically TIMEOUT and TOTALTIMEOUT were broken. The patches I've pushed to the elflink branch fix this and also fix parsing of the ALLOWOPTIONS config directive. The following changes since commit d5e02fb16a11bfdbce1e90a39e6cb5f2ad925389: get_key: Valid key values are positive (2012-04-17 11:25:53

SYSLINUX 3.20-pre4 pushed out
This prerelease should hopefully fix the handing of "ontimeout" with a label in menu.c32. It also adds the "menu shiftkey" command (so far undocumented), which only displays the menu if Shift/Alt/Caps/Scroll is set. Note that means it's not possible to display the menu on a serial console! -hpa

SYSLINUX 3.32-pre4 released: MEMDISK floppy drive workaround
Hi all, I have pushed out a SYSLINUX 3.32-pre4. This version attempts to work around the "missing floppy drive" issue. If you have systems on which MEMDISK doesn't work without a floppy drive, I would appreciate it if you would test this out. -hpa

SYSLINUX 2.03-pre4 released
Hi all, I have just released SYSLINUX 2.03-pre4; this is the same as SYSLINUX 2.03-pre3, except: a) I have -- I hope -- finally fixed the Perl scripts so they work in UTF-8 locales; b) MEMDISK now supports gzip compressed images. For those who have requested it... you should really thank me for the last one. It took quite a bit of work, mostly because I had to move the installer to be a

DOS/Freedos: Can't use mkfloppyimg.sh or mkdiskimage for +8M images ( Murali (????? ?????) )
Sorry for the delay, I should not send email on an holiday week-end. I'll try to answer all the questions by explaining what does work for me right now, and what I'd like to do. I have a script to create the a USB stick or an ISO image. The boot media contains many DOS images, and I use versamenu to select one of them. If my DOS image is smaller than 8megs, everything is working fine as

DOS/Freedos: Can't use mkfloppyimg.sh or mkdiskimage for +8M images ( Solved)
Hi, I did found the problem, a combination of 2 factor. 1- I taught that I did install the latest syslinux, but in fact it was the 3.36 version. 2- Thank to kevin Connelly, he point me to a problem he got with mkdosfs command. The default FAT16 do not work, but the FAT12 do. By adding -F12 to the mkdosfs command fix the problem. The default F16 do seem to work for <8M floppy image. Thank you

Memdisk/floppy image question
Here is the script I put together now. I hope I haven't overlooked anything. You might need to modify the first section of variables to suit your setup. Ofcourse you need to run this as root. May be some version of this should be included with syslinux? Basically given an existing floppy image, it creates a larger image and copies its contents over and sets up the bootsector of the

ONTIMEOUT and menu
Maybe I missed something here. What I want to happen is PXE boot on a timeout will boot to the hard drive. But, what happens is my comboot menu, which is default, loads right away and the ontimeout only happens when I escape out of the menu. My pxelinux.cfg/default: default menu timeout 100 ontimeout localboot # The Main Menu label menu kernel mainmenu.com append keeppxe #

SYSLINUX 2.09, 2.10-pre1 released
Hi all, I have released SYSLINUX 2.09; it is the same as 2.09-pre15 except for the version number. Changes in 2.09: * SYSLINUX: Remove residual setuid crap from syslinux-nomtools. * Handle video pages correctly when using the API functions. * Handle compiling on an x86-64 platform correctly. * Menu system from Murali Krishnan Ganapathy; see the
