Boot Failed: please change disks...
I had to create a single floppy image holding the kernel and initrd of SuSe8.0 distibution. When I boot the computer, it first loads the kernel, and starts loading the initrd. After a short while it halts saying ?Boot Failed: please change disks and press a key to continue.? The floppy image is served by a PXE server, so I am not sure if the problem I am facing has anything to do with ?bad

Dear Sir, I am using PXES for booting diskless computer to win2k, and/or LTSP servers. The problem is we have many computers in our lab have different computers, so i require different .initrd files for each group of computers. Can i have different /pxelinux.cfg/default files so that i can define different locations for my boot files. Thanks in advance. Limesh Parekh, Enjay Computer

problems with 2880 linux floppy image
Hi, I'm using syslinux to boot Linux off a network server running tftpd and dhcpd. The server is running RH 7.3 with syslinux version 2.06 and pxe-0.1-31.99.7.3 installed from the rpm. I created a 2880 K floppy image using syslinux and populated it with the Linux kernel images: vmlinuz, and initrd.img (trimmed of some modules) from RH 9, also, syslinux.cfg with kickstart information. The

Booting to a DOS boot disk using pxelinux?
After succesfully launching automated Linux install using MTFTP, DHCP and PXE servers all running W2K, I wanted to explore the possibility of using the same setup to serve DOS boot floppies through the same PXE server. Is this possible? I cannot hardcode the MAC addresses of the NICs as the computers will be updated every month or so. Thank you in advance, Fet

PXELINUX and PowerSave Mode ...
We have a lot of diskless Linux clients which are booting via PXELINUX or ETHERBOOT. The problem is that they are on for 24 hours and APM PowerSave mode works for ETHERBOOT only. But in the future we want to use PXELINUX only, which seems to have no features for APM or ACPI PowerSave included. Would it be possible to integrate such features in PXELINUX or is there a way to boot a special image

Planning a 2.08 release
It seems that quite a bit of stuff built up very quickly after the 2.07 release: Changes from 2.07 to 2.08-pre6: * Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout to have a different action than just pressing Enter. * Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom command to be executed in case the kernel image is

TFTP & Network after booting kernel
Hello all, We are trying to make our own NFSroot via PXELINUX without the e1000 ethernet module compiled into the kernel. All works fine, we have a ramdisk that can setup networking from information provided by $ip, however I would like to download the specific e1000.o via tftp before inserting it into to the kernel. Since ramdisks are static I rather not have the situation where we have to

Build a bootable floppy image which contains HDT
It is now possible to build a bootable floppy image which contains HDT, with my patch applied to Erwans HDT branch: http://git.zytor.com/?p=users/erwan/hdt.git;a=commit;h=16b37fe2266c920087f88cdec94243b71218d871 Unpack the Syslinux archive and build whole Syslinux first, then cd to ./com32/hdt/ and make hdt.img $ make $ cd ./com32/hdt/ $ make hdt.img Now you have a 2.88 MB floppy image which

SysLinux GPL license violation
Hi there, As I could not find a direct maintainer email address, I'm sending this to the mailing list. SysLinux, being a GPL product, is being sold under a very restrictive license without even offering the sources to the public. I've written up my findings here: http://www.palli.nl/~ivo/rdp/ Please have a look for yourself. Regards, Ivo Palli

Building a bootable floppy image > 1.44MB
Hi there! After reading the last posting about creating a boot disk as non-root, I have a question of my own: Does anyone know a way to produce a floppy/harddisk image able to boot a DOS environment (without using windows, vmware or other tools of that kind)? Is it perhaps even possible to create larger disk images (>2.88MB)? It's no problem to get an image with a DOS filesystem, but

PXElinux NFS booting issue
Hi, I know this isn't the right list for this but I figured that at least you guy's have done some similar things. After messing about with PXElinux, I'm only a hairs breath away from finishing. My problem comes from program files that the Kernel boots to, so init=/sbin/init or init=/bin/bash. If I boot to bash the console of the remote PC just dies right after the section

MTFTP support in PXElinux??
Hiya, Just joined the list and started using pxelinux. Very cool product!!! I searched the, 8+ MB, archives looking for multicast entries. I know that the pxelinux page says that the support of mtftp in pxelinux isn't in the works but I'm not sure how old/relavant that comment is. I have noticied some comments from H.P.A. describing the difficulties in doing MTFTP. Are there any plans to

problems with the serial port
Hello all, I know there have been some posts on this topic before, but I am very new to this, so I had some trouble decifering exactly what I have to do to get this working. I am trying to get a program which accesses the serial port to receive data from a 3 degree of freedom tracking device to work under linux. The GUI loads just fine, but then I get an error from the program (not WINE) that

FW: INITRD > MEMSIZE / 2
I?ve got a 512M machine and a 330M ( uncompressed ) initrd image. How can I mount the ramdisk? Normal booting seems to want to copy the entire initrd image into a Ramdisk, thus requiring 2X the memory. So what happens is the kernel boots correctly and I get, RAMDISK: ext2 filesystem found at block 0 RAMDISK: Loading 330000 blocks [ 1 disk ] into ram disk And then I never see the light of day after

Howto create hd image with bootable (Free)DOS system
Hello, I have to update the BIOS of several hundreds of geographically distributed PCs. Since we are using PXELINUX for years to install the OS (Linux) on this PCs PXELINUX is my first choice for doing this job. The vendor of this PCs provides a bootable ISO image for the update. Because of the size of the firmware it is not possible to use a FD image (not even 2.88MB). But in the documentation

Segfault while calling fexact in C
Hi folks, I'm trying to call an R function (fisher.test) in my program for like a billion times! Though my program is in Python and I feel that using rpy2 to interface R to python doesn't give me satisfactory performance. So I looked into R code and found out that fisher.test is actually a wrapper around another function called fexact which is implemented in C. Using Cython I managed to

CREATING A BOOTABLE LINUX FLOPPY
I have never used SYSLINUX and don't really know much about Linux either, but want to give it a try, and thought I would start by creating a bootable Linux floppy using these instructions from syslinux.doc:- ++++ CREATING A BOOTABLE LINUX FLOPPY +++ In order to create a bootable Linux floppy using SYSLINUX, prepare a normal MS-DOS formatted floppy. Copy one or more Linux kernel files
