Centos 4.4 Install bug
To the Centos maintainers:
We tried to install Centos 4.4 i386 (i686 / Athlon)

system with a 3ware 9500S-4 and 4 x 80 GB disks

Both tries caused Centos to first kernel panic
until we turned off IO-APIC in the BIOS.
Both tries also only loaded the UP kernel
and did not load the smp kernel on the machine.

maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4?
The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/
suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is
that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4?
I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets.
IWILL for one.

Transparent Samba Account Creation/Authentication using NT DC
My approach to configuring Samba was that I refused to duplicate the
effort required to manage user accounts under NT. My resource domain
already had the accounts. I did everything I could to stay away from manual
(or even programmatic) manipulation of the smbpasswd file. The smbpasswd
file is not used or required in the following scenario.
There have been some very important Samba

When I set the driver via APW, and then close the properties dialog, I
get a protection fault from C:\winnt\explorer.exe.
Attached is the corresponding samba log at level 3, and my smb.conf.
The driver installation works fine if I set

Mode context extremely poor performance.
Hi all,
I curently have a big problem. One request (listed above) using context
take up to 1000 more time than the on RAW or ext2 database. I have ran
this request on a single IA32 machine with Redhat and dbf on ext2. The
average reponse time is less than a sec. The same request on RAC 4 nodes
cluster on RAW take the same average time. On ext2 idem. But on OCFS it
took up to 15 sec randomly

KDE and mounting CD's / DVD's without noexec
Hi e,
I am normally use gnome and would do the following to make my CD / DVD
mount with exec
gnome-mount --write-settings --device /dev/sdc0 -o exec
What is the equivalent in KDE ? My initial research suggests that I
actually have to write a custom udev rule to achieve this.
This has led me as far as running
udevinfo -q path -n /dev/scd0
udevtest /block/sr0 (the output is below)

First SIP-registering succeeds, second doesn't
Hi all,
I have a strange issue, with a some kind complicate architecture...
A router of our internet provider is in front of another bintec rs353j
router, at which my freepbx installation is located. However, NAT etc.
seems to work fine.
BUT: Something is not working...:
When registering my sip-trunk towards my provider (3 different
providers, all behave comparable), everything works at first.
