Hello,
I have to load a syslinux floppy image from grub using memdisk,
it works like:
grub - memdisk -> linux floppy image.
the linux floppy image is using syslinux as linux bootloader.
before syslinux 3.02, it works fine. However if syslinux >=3.05
it doesn't works. After vmlinuz and initrd loaded , before
boot linux kernel, system hangs.
Or, is it possible to run

KDE and mounting CD's / DVD's without noexec
Hi e,
I am normally use gnome and would do the following to make my CD / DVD
mount with exec
gnome-mount --write-settings --device /dev/sdc0 -o exec
What is the equivalent in KDE ? My initial research suggests that I
actually have to write a custom udev rule to achieve this.
This has led me as far as running
udevinfo -q path -n /dev/scd0
udevtest /block/sr0 (the output is below)

WinXP cant connect Samba_Server which can connect WinXP for files sharing
Hi All Folks.
I encountered following problem
WinXP can't connect Samba_Server but Samba_Server can connect WinXP for
files sharing
WinXP box and Samba_Server are connected directly via a crossover cable as
experiment. Firewall of WinXP is off and ipchains on Samba_Server also off.
(Remark: The WinXP box has been tested via direct connection with a
crossover cable to a WinME box/Win98

Centos 4.4 Install bug
To the Centos maintainers:
We tried to install Centos 4.4 i386 (i686 / Athlon)
on a Dual Opteron 254 Iwill DK8N MB, 1GB (4 x 256M)
system with a 3ware 9500S-4 and 4 x 80 GB disks
in a RAID 10 array.
Both tries caused Centos to first kernel panic
until we turned off IO-APIC in the BIOS.
Both tries also only loaded the UP kernel
and did not load the smp kernel on the machine.
The smp kernel was

memdisk and usb flash devices as primary hard drives.
Has anybody tried to boot a dos disk via memdisk with a usb flash device
as a primary hard drive?
I have a 512MB flash key that when connected becomes my primary hard
drive (new bios) - 0x80. If I boot a MS-DOS 7.10 floppy, one gets the
command prompt and I can see the contents of my flash key as drive C:.
But, if I make a image of the floppy and boot the image via memdisk,

maximum cpus/cores in CentOS 4.1
What is the maximum number of AMD64 cores supported by CentOS 4?
The RedHat page https://www.redhat.com/software/rhel/configuration/
suggests that RHEL 4 AS supports up to 8 AMD64/EM64T logical cpus. Is
that accurate and does it apply to CentOS 4?
I see a few vendors offering boxes with 8 (dual core) CPU sockets.
IWILL for one.
Thanks,

patch for rpm spec problem
The following is a description of an rpm-based rsync build problem on my
Redhat 7.1 system, and a patch that fixed the spec file. The problem
occurred on several recent rsync releases, including 2.5.7:
rpm -tb --define '_topdir /home/user/tmp/rpmbuild' rsync-2.5.7.tar.gz
ALMOST works; it uses the spec file in lsb, not redhat/7.1. This spec file
fails due to bad date format in one line,

Transparent Samba Account Creation/Authentication using NT DC
My approach to configuring Samba was that I refused to duplicate the
effort required to manage user accounts under NT. My resource domain
already had the accounts. I did everything I could to stay away from manual
(or even programmatic) manipulation of the smbpasswd file. The smbpasswd
file is not used or required in the following scenario.
There have been some very important Samba

[memdisk] collision between memdisk and emm386 (FreeDOS)
Hi
I'm using memdisk as part of CD Shell' isolinux. I've created custom floppy
disk image 8440kB size. I've put FreeDOS kernel and bootsector into the
floppy. Boot process goes fine with this command:
isolinux /boot/memdisk initrd=/ximg/fdos.img c=60 h=8 s=36 floppy
The problems begin when I try to run FreeDOS memory manager emm386 from the
floppy image.

curious
Hi All,
After using rsync on a couple of reasonably high-perfomance
machines lately (and being very impressed - this solution is excellent)
- I decided to use this for a backup method on a somewhat slower network -
Basically I have two machines (one a PII with 64MB of ram), and another
a PIII 600 (192MB of ram) - both running turbolinux server 6.5 with a
nice 'n' stable
