Profili Pro software needs mdb file?
Hi All,
Just started to try to get 1 windoz program to run in Ubuntu since I can't find a good alternative. Been running Ubuntu for 3 years but this is above my expertise. Profili is airplane wing profile software that will generate G-code for a CNC router. When I try to get it to run under WIne it gives me this error and quits... "Impossible to open database

Memdisk + Loadlin.exe
Can I boot to memdisk using loadlin.exe? I saw that there were references to loadlin in the memdisk init.S (at least in the 2.04 version) so I thought it would be possible. If there's some resource that I can refer to I'd love to know that.
DR-DOS 7.02
loadlin.exe 1.6c
Sorry if this is a FAQ, I looked through the digest some before I joined this list, but I didn't see anything there

relationship between syslinux and loadlin
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Could someone possibly clarify the relationship between these 2
programs? I am in a situation where I am developing for an embedded
system, and I need to rewrite my CMOS before I actually boot into linux.
~ The only tools for manipulating my cmos happen to be DOS utilities, and
I was hoping that I could script their use in autoexec.bat or somewhere

Rsync Optimization for Long Haul Links
Rsync speed seems to be effected more by latency than bandwidth, why is
this?
I have been happily rsyncing all over the world for some time, but today I
had cause to sync 40GB of data to all our remote sites causing me to look
closer at the statistics.
We effectively pull data using.
rsync -az --delete --force hqserver::filesystem /export/sync/filesystem
Our network is a 20Meg+ T3 at HQ and a

MEMDISK and LOADLIN
Hi,
I'm a newbie on all of this so this might be a very stupid question!
I have a DOS boot disk which loads generic USB drivers to make my USB pen
drive accessible under DOS. The pen drive has a number of floppy disk
images on it of various utilities and I want to mount these using MEMDISK
via LOADLIN. All my attempts so far either freeze the PC or reboot it! I
have tried running it from

[patch rfc wip] first cut of ELF bzImage
I started with Vivek's ELF bzImage patch from Oct last year, mashed it
to apply to hpa's new setup/boot code.
This patch does a couple of things, which would probably be better split
into multiple patches:
1. Glue an ELF header onto the front of bzImage. This is a real ELF
header at the front of the file. Breaks akpm's laptop,
apparently, but it works for me.

Hi,
Just FYI: I've create a template disk image + small shell script for
creating a multi-disk linux boot floppies for kernels and/or initrd's

Question concerning booting from Floppy Drive
First I'd like to thank you, and everyone who has contributed to the
isolinux development. It has been the solution to many of my development
needs.
Currently I am creating a Linux system that runs directly from CD. Currently
the CD is working and I am using isolinux to boot the CD. The compressed
kernel is approximately 2 meg and the compressed initial ramdisk is
approximately 4 meg.

I have configured a Linux box for booting from a Compact Flash instead of a
Hard Disk, this is an IDE CF, Syslinux is on the MBR because it loads, when
I put the the kernel file named as linux as it expects i load it but when I
rename it expecting it to load the SYSLINUX.CFG it does not load the menu as
I would like, I will put two images on that Compact flash in order to boot

Rebooting to hard drive from DOS floppy
Hi all,
Do any of you have any ideas for getting a DOS floppy to reboot to the hard
drive (which may contain Windows 98 or XP or Linux or Novell etc etc)? I
want to use syslinux, but it does not support the localboot option like
pxelinux and isolinux do.
Basically, I want to boot DOS from a floppy, run some DOS stuff, then reboot
to the hard drive while leaving the floppy disk in the drive.

memdisk - reboot loaded image
Is there a method to reboot a memdisk (floppy) image?
I'm working on a DOS-based installation floppy that needs to repartition the hard disk
prior to proceeding. DOS will only recognize the updated partition table after a reboot, but
I'd like to be able to save information to the currently loaded memdisk floppy disk and
simply reboot the image. Possible?
I haven't had any luck with

Question on "root pivot" function
Seth,
Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry to bother with this, but what is
the "root pivot" function and
where can I find doc's on it.
From what I understand from your email the system would basically boot
twice. Once from a stripped
kernel on the floppy disk to mount the CD, and then after the CD is
mounted it would reboot with the
kernel and initial randisk found on the

Linux 2.2.0 and Samba client not happening for me
Dudes and/or Dudettes:
HEEELLLPPP! (such a newbie statement)
I can't get my remote SMB mounts to work on my Linux box.
duke was happily running Slackware Linux 2.0.36 and Samba 1.9.18p8 .
I upgraded to Linux 2.2.0pre9 (2.2.0final), which seemed to require
upgrading to Samba 2.0.0 . (I don't remember the exact errors)
Now i can't get my NT and '95 disks to stay mounted on

outbound IAX calls bog down DSL
Evening,
I've got * asterisk up and running with nufone account for inbound and
outbound calls from the world... everything works quite nicely except that I
noticed last night that when I have a call active from * to nufone, web
surfing on the network slows to a crawl... additionally, I have a VPN tunnel
to another office (using CIPE) and while inter-office (i.e. - SIP to SIP)
