Suggestions on building VM disks from scratch
This may not be the best forum to ask, but it does seem to be one where it is as likely as anywhere that someone will have dealt with a similar problem. I need to define a procedure for last resort disaster recovery from an incremental file level backup of the root partition (and any others that are critical.) Now it is easy enough to create a raw virtual disk with dd, then to losetup and do a

Hello list, I sucessfully booted some floppy-images within memdisk-2.0.4, but how can I boot a cd-iso-image (for example a bootable eltorito cd). Or does sb. have a wrapper or a skript which can boot an iso-image ? Re-sizing qcow2 images
Hello All, I am using Centos 6.3 with libvirt 0.910 and qemu-kvm 0.12 I had to resize a qcow2 disk, and came across several issues; I used this command to resize the image: sudo -i /usr/bin/qemu-img /var/lib/libvirt/images/mydisk.img resize +100G . The disk is attached using virtio. I then tried to use parted from within the guest to resize the partition. The first problem was that the

Creating HD Boot Images
I have been trying to track down information on building HD boot images for ISOLINUX and MEMDISK, and so far, haven't had a whole lot of luck. I've found a number of sources describing the process of setting up ISOLINUX and MEMDISK, and how to configure the boot CD to boot various OS's. I've also read through Bart Lagerweij's BootCD/ModBoot pages, and Mikhail

question on mounting a partition that is in a disk image
How do I mount a partition that is in an image file? I have a file called centos.img that has 3 partitions in the file. I need to copy data to the third partition on that image file. I have seen things about a loop back device (which is fine) but then it talked about an offset parameter and I dont know what that is or more importantly what number to use. I hope I'm on the right track. How

Centos 5.5 KVM GRUB / Virtio issue
I have a virtual machine that had been running fine using a RAW disk image (IDE). I am in the process of converting this virtual machine to use a single LVM and virtio. (For LVM backup snapshots and easy resizing purposes (no LVM within the guest)) I create the LVM and copied all the files from the existing RAW image to an ext3 under the LVM. However, I cannot get it to boot. It has to do

LVM related bug in the GPL PV drivers for Windows?
Dear Xen users! In case you were struggling with recent version of th gplpv drivers, I''ve possibly found an LVM related bug in it, and reported to James Harper. Thats''s the point: I''ve tested the mentioned version of your driver on top of 32bit xen-3.2.1 32bit xen-3.3.0 and 64bit xen xen-3.3.0 hypervisors, dom0 was always an appropriate version of a 32bit PAE kernel,

Can you convert Windows LVM domU to sparse img file?
I have a Windows 2000 domU running in an LVM partition. I need to move it to another host, but none of my other xen servers have lvm or free space to create an lvm. So I''d like to convert it to a sparse img file. The file system in the domU is ntfs. Can anyone suggest how to do this? Thanks, James _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

Bug in cfdisk?
Hi, I'm currently working through Sander Van Vugt's "Beginning the Linux Command Line" (Apress), just for fun. Right now I'm just trying out all the examples in chapter 5, dedicated to managing partitions and logical volumes. After some work with fdisk (which I normally use), the book introduces cfdisk (which I've been using in Slackware days). Curiously enough,

Retrive data from repartitioned / reformatted hard drive?
Hi, The title says it all. One of my clients showed me a 120 GB hard drive that his daughter accidentally formatted, according to him. I booted the first CD I had at hand - a Slackware 11.0 install CD - and launched cdfdisk /dev/hda. cfdisk informed me that there was even no partition table. So much for reformatting. cfdisk only shows me 120 GB of free space. Any way to retrive data on this

[PATCH] Let MEMDISK honor the quiet append option
When you add "quiet" to the append line, Syslinux doesn't display the file reading progress anymore. When you use this option to boot an image with MEMDISK, you still get a lot of text. ========================== LABEL mydisk LINUX memdisk INITRD mydisk.img APPEND raw quiet ========================== The following patch makes MEMDISK silent when the quiet keyword is passed to the

Lock Problem
We have some database dos programs runing under Linux with dosemu on the client side connected to Linux server runing samba, and want to do register locks in a local directory mounted with smbmount. In samba 2.0 this was not possible (files become corrupted). Can samba 2.2 do the trick?. We don't want to use micro$oft lan manager for DOS. Any other options?. Thanks in advance Pietro

Possible to speed up guestmount?
Hi, Apparently, guestmount -o allow_other -a "/path/to/raw_file" -m /dev/sda1 "/path/to/mountfolder" is much slower than kpartx -av "/path/to/raw_file" mount /dev/mapper/loop0p1 /path/to/mountfolder (Doing lots of read/write inside the image.) I thought guestmount "only" scripts the above. Seems I was wrong on that. I am currently using
