Booting from Harddisk
Hi, I've made several attempts to boot syslinux from the harddisk. I have a win 98 startdiskette with syslinux and copybs. I strictly follow the procedure in the syslinux documentation. Yet, the result of the boot is not that linux is starting. Instead, the Microsoft windows screen flashes for a couple of seconds and is then replaced by a Dos prompt. Syslinux is V2.04. The PC is an IBM Aptiva

Problems with eepro100 or BroadCom NetXtreme and syslinux 2.04
Hi all! We use pxelinux for booting a diskless Linux from whitch we install all our systems. But we discovered some Problems: - With v1.75 the Kernel is fetched from the TFTP-Server with no problem, but it gets not started on Broadcom NetXtreme with newer PXE-Bioses - With v2.04, pxelinux even seems not to be able to fetch the kernel from the TFTP-Server. This affects also Intel's

Help - Firewall/Router Configuration
Hi All, I am hoping someone can help me with a project I am doing at work. I warn you in advance that this will be a long post, but I wanted to provide as much information as I could to explain what was going on. Any help would be very much appreciated and welcomed as my boss would like to see this up and running this week. I have been scouring various documents on advanced routing for a

Network Boot IP Configuration Dilemma
Background: I recently wrote to Peter Anvin regarding IPAPPEND functionality, and he suggested I take the issue to this mailing list. I see it has been touched upon several times, after reviewing the archives. Let me see if I can add to it with a good level of detail: When using PXE to network boot a linux client, PXE must first acquire the client's IP address, by dhcp request, then, the

Problems with PXELINUX and Redhat 9.0
I'm trying to boot the Redhat 9.0 install kernel with PXELINUX. I've successfully booted previous versions of the Redhat install kernel using the same hardware and PXELINUX configuration. I've tried this with PXELINUX 2.04, 2.03, and 1.75, all with similar results. I have attached the PXELINUX output and (hopefully) relevant data below. I've noticed some other people on this

Pls. HELP : v1.9.18p10 much more robust with security=server than v2.04
Hello samba-list-reader, why is samba v2.0x worse than v1.9.18p10 with respect to NT-authentification with security=server ? I have exactly the same smb.conf on two servers, one running samba v2.04b and the other running samba v1.9.18p10 (Sun Solaris2.6). With v1.9.18p10 everything works fine since months. On the server running v2.0x in about 10% of all NT-authentification-tries (with net use

XML vm configfile with Display using QEMU GTK interface
Hello guys, I'm trying to start a VM using the QEMU GTK Display Interface instead of a SDL window. But I'm failing. My actual setting is using SDL with this XML line: <graphics type='sdl' display=':0.0' xauth='/home/ploog/.Xauthority'/> I changed to: <graphics type='gtk'> But it fails to start the VM. Any ideias? Thanks in advance,

samba-tool domain backup online && --configfile
Hi Tim, then I believe there is a bug. I did not specify the option and it used /etc/smb.conf rather than the correct /etc/samba/smb.conf. I was running a local backup on DC with Louis build 4.10.6 on ubuntu 18.04.2. Shall I open a ticket? Best Regards, Joachim -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: samba <samba-bounces at lists.samba.org> Im Auftrag von Tim Beale via samba Gesendet:

samba-tool domain backup online && --configfile
On https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Back_up_and_Restoring_a_Samba_AD_DC#Online_DC_backup there is a comment ?you may want to specify a --configfile option so that the correct smb.conf settings get included in the backup.? Why does samba-tool not pick up the one it (or other parts of Samba) is compiled with automatically? Like `smbd -b | grep "CONFIGFILE" | sed -n -E

Samba4 spawns many /usr/sbin/smbd --configfile
I have no idea why, occasionally one of my samba4 servers won't respond to my RSAT tools on windows 7. I check the server and when I do a ps -aux I see many lines just like the following: root 28073 0.0 0.0 2132 52 ? S 00:11 0:00 /bin/sleep 999999999 3000063 28176 0.0 0.4 87604 7144 ? PXEboot: can't find configfile on tftpd server
Hello, I've got several machines which I'm trying to netboot, the setup is a bootserver using dhcpd3 and tftpd-hpa. When a machine boots up, it gets an ip address and downloads pxelinux.0 from the server, then it starts searching for pxelinux.cfg/[MACADDRESS] pxelinux.cfg/0A0000F0 and so on. On the server side I see in the syslog the client's DHCP-request and the client downloading

DHCP, the TFTP Server setting and the Cisco 79xx phones
The thing I dislike the most about the 79xx phones is that in DHCP mode, they expect the DHCP server to tell them their TFTP server address. They won't let you set it manually. So if I don't have DHCP server that gives TFTP server info, which is most of the DHCP servers at out there, then the phone won't be able to download any updates made to the SIP000*.cnf file. Using dhcpd on
