isolinux puzzle
Peter, Thank you for isolinux. What a relief to be rid of floppy images! ISOLINUX works great except in one puzzling instance. I recently upgraded my system with a Promise Ultra 133 (PDC20269) controller. In order to boot from either the hard drive or CDROM drive connected to this controller I set the boot device in the motherboard BIOS to SCSI. Everything seemingly works great. Until we get

2.6.25.* domU i386 baremetal/xen dual boot kernels (Fedora 8)
I''ve been having some fun recently with trying to get a stock upstream kernel working, compiled with support for both baremetal and PV booting. This is with a view to getting a similar configuration into the Xensource automated test setup. Since I''ve just got such a kernel to boot a Fedora 8 PV guest I thought I''d share what I did, as there are a couple of tricks to

Supermicro CentOS 7 install failure
My workhorse server is a SuperMicro with their H8DM8-2 motherboard. For many years it ran CentOS 5.x and 6.x until the boot drive failed last year. I installed a 1TB SSD as /dev/sda and planned to install CentOS 7 on it, replacing CentOS 6.5 on the failed drive. Unfortunately every CentOS 7 media I tried, either optical disk or USB thumb drive, breaks down just a few seconds after selecting

CentOS 7 / Xen 4.6 on UEFI system?
Wondering if anyone has managed to get Xen to boot from UEFI? We have a relatively new server with a Supermicro X11SSH-F mainboard with an M.2 SSD. If we switch the boot mode to Legacy in the BIOS no boot devices show up. The vendor says this is because M.2 SSD is only supported in UEFI mode. We even tried installing some spinning SATA drives and a USB thumb drive but those don't show up as

USB boot problems on Gigabyte GA-M55Plus-S3G
First, allow me to apologize for taking such a long time to get back to this small project. I just had other things on my plate. My apology extends to everyone who has offered suggestions or advice, but most particularly to Ady <ady-sf at hotmail.com>, who has clearly gone the extra mile to try to help me get this boot problem worked out. Before describing the results of his last set of

How to make a Google Compute Engine boot image with guestfish?
wow - guestfish has a dizzying array of options and functionality - looks awesome. I feel a bit like I’m asking for homework help, but perhaps someone might be willing to save me a weekend (or more) of trial and error by pointing me in the right direction….. I’ve done so much fiddling with this sort of stuff that I know a little insider guidance can be a *huge* help and time saver. And if it is

Availability of a variable of the TFTP server IP addressto be used in pxelinux.cfg/default
Hello Shao, Thank you for your hint. I saw this one already earlier but I wanted to avoid it for two reasons: - One of my images uses a CPIO INITRD which I found rather complicated editing (like I wrote I'm quite new to all that Linux stuff). - For each new release I will need to do the changes to the prebuilt images again. I'm not the one who creates the images. I'm downloading

Minimizing WoW - Painfully low FPS
I can play WoW perfectly, it is 100% stable and I can get great fps. One problem though, when I minimize the game and I maximize it, sometimes I can just keep playing happily but sometimes thats not the case. I minimize it, maximize it again and the FPS drops to about 10-20fps (anywhere). As you might know, this is VERY annoying, I've tried changing loads of settings in-game with no help.

Very slow on I/O?
I seem to be having a problem with CentOS releases 4.2 and 4.3. On a fresh install (on two very different pieces of hardware, one Dell PowerEdge server and one Compaq Presario), the system seems to be extremely slow. It happens primarily during any hard disk I/O. It's slow enough that my mouse skips slowly instead of moving smoothly, and I am unable to type. It seems to freeze for

Hello Looking to build CentOS based micro EC2 instance bootable from Amazon EBS. Want that the image be minimal, so that I can add only the rpms I want. Despite looking could not find a way to import a CentOS image from scratch or an existing minimal CentOS image that is bootable from EBS. My server must must persist, as I cannot handle issues with a dynamic server, so I want to use a server

update from 4.2 to 4.3?
Hi List; Whats the preferred method to update from 4.2 to 4.3? Can I use yum to do this, If so, can someone send me the appropriate install or update command string to pass to yum? Also, Do I need to add any specific yum repositories or will the stock 4.2 yum configuration work (assumint that yum is the best way to do the upgrade) ? Thanks in advance for your help... /Kevin
